An intake of Aircraft becomes S-shaped geometry due to spatial limitation or procuring survivability. But curvature of the S-shaped geometry makes secondary flow or flow separation which is the cause of non-uniform pressure distribution. In this study, boundary layer suction is applied to RAE M 2129 S-Duct by attaching sub duct. Design variable is suction location and angle. A mass flow rate drawn out by suction at the sub duct outlet is constant over every model. A grid dependency test was conducted to verify validity of computation. The comparison among the CFD (Computation Fluid Dynamics), ARA experimental result, and ARA computation result of non-dimensional pressure distribution on the Port side and Starboard Side confirmed the validity of CFD. In this study, Distortion Coefficient was used for evaluating aerodynamic performance of S-Duct. The analysis, which was about flow separation, vortex, mass flow rate distribution, and pressure distribution were also investigated. Maximum 26.14% reduction in Distortion Coefficient was verified.

Recently, improving the energy efficiency of a pneumatic system and reducing the consumption of compressed air were a concern of scholars at domestic and abroad. The using fields of a pneumatic system are widely used in factory automation of manufacturing line, chemical factories with explosiveness danger and petroleum industries etc. In particular, pneumatic cylinder is applied to feeding work of workpiece. jig tools and press mechanism, reciprocation and rotary motion with rack and pinion. In this study, the experimental apparatus consisted to pneumatic cylinder, dual supply pressure regulator and solenoid valve. The dual supply pressure regulator connected to outlet port of solenoid valve. The supply pressure($4.5kg_f/cm^2$) of compressed air goes into the rodless chamber 1 to drive the piston rod forward which is named working stage. The supply pressure ($2kg_f/cm^2$) of compressed air goes into the rod chamber 2 to drive the piston rod backward which is named no-working stage. Accordingly, the research results of this study can be obtained to Energy-Saving Effects of the compressed air about 35%.

For the prediction of sloshing in the propellant tank of rocket vehicle utilized in RVT (reusable rocket vehicle testing) conducted by ISAS/JAXA, the flow field in the propellant tank during the ballistic flight was experimentally reproduced with the sub-scale model of it. The lateral acceleration as large as about 0.8 G was provided with a mechanical exciter and the deformation of liquid surface in the vessel was visualized with a high-speed camera. The several con-figurations of damping devices were installed and tested in the vessel, which should keep the ullage gas away from the outlet port. It was consequently suggested that the combination of a baffle plate and a perforated cylinder could be effective against the gas suction before the re-ignition of the engine. The sloshing phenomena were also simulated with the CFD code, called CIP-LSM. The numerical results showed good agreement with the corresponding data obtained in the experiment.
A computational fluid dynamics model for predicting moderator circulation inside the Canada deuterium uranium (CANDU) reactor vessel has been developed to estimate the local subcooling of the moderator in the vicinity of the calandria tubes. The buoyancy effect induced by the internal heating is accounted for by the Boussinesq approximation. The standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model with logarithmic wall treatment is applied to predict the turbulent jet flows from the inlet nozzles. The matrix of the calandria tubes in the core region is simplified to a porous media in which the anisotropic hydraulic impedance is modeled using an empirical correlation of pressure loss. The governing equations are solved by DFX-4.4, a commercial CFD code developed by AEA technology. The resultant flow patterns of the constant-z slices containing the inlet nozzles and the outlet port are "mined-type", as observed in the former 2-dimensional experimental investigations. With 103% full power for conservatism, the maximum temperature of the moderator is $82.9^{\circ}C$ at the top of the core region. Considering the hydrostatic pressure change, the minimum subcooling is $24.8^{\circ}C$.
The study on ice thermal storage system is to improve total system performance and increase the economical efficiency in actual all-conditioning facilities. To obtain the high charging and discharging efficiencies in ice thermal storage system, the improvement of thermal stratification is essential, therefore the process flow must be piston flow in the cylindrical type. With the relation of the aspect ratio(H/D) in the storage tank, the stratification is formed better as inlet flow rate is smaller. If the inlet and the outlet port are settled at the upside and downside of the storage tank, higher storage rate could be obtainable. In case that the flow directions inside the thermal storage tank are the upward flow in charging and the downward in discharging, thermal stratification is improved because the thermocline thickness is maitained thin and the degree of stratification increases respectively. In the charging process, in case of inlet flow rate the thermal stratification has a tendency to be improved with the lower flow rate and smaller temperature gradient in case of inlet temperature, the large temperature difference between inflowing water and storage water are influenced from the thermal conduction. The effect of the reference temperature difference is seen differently in comparison with the former study for chilled and hot water. In the discharging process, the thermal stratification is improved by the effect of the thermal stratification of the charging process.
The major objectives of the study are to suggest the optimal basic design conditions for the horizontal storage tank system. For this purspose computer simulation has been carried out to find the characteristics of flow patterns in horizontal storage tank, and experiments have been carried out for the duration of one turnover, Experimental parameters are volume flow rate(1 LPM to 4 LPM), amount of heat generated from heat sources(0 W to 100 W), and inlet and outlet port types of the storage tank(DD type, DO type, ID type, IO type).

In a SOFC/GT (solid oxide fuel cell/gas turbine) hybrid power generation system, the recuperator is an indispensible component to enhance system performance. Since the expansion ratio to the recuperator core is very large, generally, the effective header design to distribute the flow uniformly before entering the core is crucial to guarantee the required performance. In the present study, we focus on the design of a diffuser type recuperator header with a 90 degree turn inlet port. To reduce the flow separation and recirculation flows, multiple horizontal vanes are used. The number of horizontal vanes is varied from 0 to 24. The air flow velocity is measured at 40 points just behind the core outlet by using a hot wire anemometer. Then, the flow non-uniformity is evaluated from the measured flow velocity. The experimental results showed that inlet air velocity did not effect on relative flow non-uniformity. According to increasing the number of horizontal vanes, flow non-uniformity reduced about $40{\sim}50%$ than without using horizontal vanes.
The purpose of this study was to develop a Eco smoking booth that can effectively reduce hazardous pollutants generated during smoking and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of removing hazardous pollutants. The design and manufacture of an eco-friendly automatic smoking booth equipped with deodorizing facilities, such as inlet - HEPA filter - electrostatic precipitator (EP) - impregnated activated carbon - exhaust port, etc., and the efficiency of removing hazardous pollutants from inside and outside was measured and evaluated. The complex odor removal efficiency was 95.37% inside the smoking booth, and 97.38% at the exit of the preventive facility. The carbon monoxide removal efficiency was 94.25% in the inside and 98.32% in the outlet. In addition, the removal efficiency of particulate matter, (PM1, PM2.5, and PM10) inside the smoking booth was 98.59%, and 98.85% at the outlet. The total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) decreased from $26,000{\mu}g/m^3$ to $5,203{\mu}g/m^3$ in the smoking booth, resulting in 79.99% removal efficiency. After the ventilator was operated, the measured effluent concentration was $5,019{\mu}g/m^3$, and the removal efficiency was 80.70%. Therefore, the smoking booth designed and manufactured through this study can be applied to the removal of harmful pollutants even in the small working environment in the future.

In many industrial processes and operations, such as power plants, petrochemical industries and ships, shell and tube heat exchangers are widely used and probably applicable for a wide range of operating temperatures. The main purpose of a heat exchanger is to transfer heat between two or more medium with temperature differences. Heat exchangers are highly nonlinear, time-varying and show time lag behavior during operation. The temperature control of such processes has been challenging for control engineers and a variety of forms of PID controllers have been proposed to guarantee better performance. In this paper, a scheme to control the outlet temperature of a shell and tube heat exchanger system that combines the PID controller with feedforward control and anti-windup techniques is presented. A genetic algorithm is used to tune the parameters of the PID controller with anti-windup and the feedforward controller by minimizing the IAE (Integral of Absolute Error). Simulation works are performed to study the performance of the proposed method when applied to the process.

In this study, we analyzed the system impedance of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle avionics bay and Environmental Control System(ECS), and estimated the proper air flow rate to be supplied avionics equipments. As the result of estimation, we evaluated the performance of ECS after analysing the flow balance rate and the air flow rate about each outlet port, and simultaneously decided the flow balance rate after evaluating the thermal substantiality by the thermal analysis of avionics bay. In order to verify the property of analysis result, we conducted the flow balance test using the actual avionics equipments and finally deduced the flow rate to be met system requirements of avionics equipments. Also, as the analysis results, we verified the satisfaction of system requirements at midium altitude condition and proved the performance characteristics of an Environmental Control System(ECS).
