The present study was undertaken to provide basic data on fetal endochondral ossification for the native Korean cattle femur. This study was determined to the both earliest stages of chondrification and ossification by histochemical methods. The forty-five pairs of femur, from a series of embryos and fetuses ranging from 11 to 100mm in crown-rump(C-R) length, were used. These samples were divided into 9 groups. The groupings were based on C-R length, as the first grouping being 11~20mm, the second grouping being 21~30mm and so on. The results were as follows: 1. Alcianophility and PAS reaction were markedly increased in the perichondrium and interterritorial matrix in the 3rd group(C-R length 31~40mm). These reactions were decreased in the territorial matrix and in the adjacent area to the cartilage canal in the 5th group(C-R length 51~60mm). 2. Calcium deposits and collagen substances were observed initially in the 3rd group(C-R length 31~40mm). The calcium deposits and calcified cores were observed in the trabeculae of the proximal epiphyseal plate of the femur in the 8th group(C-R length 81~90mm).

Heterotopic ossification is an abnormal bone formation after surgery or without any reason. Large joint, such as hip and knee joint, is a known most common site. Operation itself and postoperative early range of motion exercise are risk factors. We present a case of heterotopic ossification mimics neurogenic tumor after high tibial osteotomy.

Ossification of the yellow ligament (OYL) is a pathologic condition that causes spinal stenosis, which is a form of ectopic ossification. OYL causes compressive myelopathy and radiculopathy. Although the pathogenesis of OYL is still unclear, diffuse mechanical stresses and degenerative changes caused by extreme ranges of motion may be related to the development of OYL in young sportsmen. Here we report an interesting case of thoracic radiculopathy due to OYL in a 35-year-old male amateur judo player who was successfully treated with continuous thoracic patient controlled epidural analgesia and epidural adhesiolysis.

The pilomatricoma is a benign skin neoplasm arising from hair follicle matrix cells, and it comprises approximately 0.12% of all benign skin tumors. It occurs most commonly in head and neck. It usually tends to occur in childhood or school-age. Mainly, it exists in single subcutaneous or intradermal nodule and grows very slowly. The diagnosis is confirmed by histopathologic examination. Histopathologically, it is characterized by basaloid cells, enucleated shadow cells and calcifications in the shadow cell. However, it is rare to present extensive ossification in pilomatricoma. The treatment of choice is wide local excision. A 66-year-old man came to our clinic and he complained of two masses on right parotid tail and posterior neck. We performed excisional biopsy on posterior neck and partial parotidectomy. The pathology of former was pilomatricoma with extensive ossification. We report a rare unique case of pilomatricoma with brief review of literature.
The present study was undertaken to provide basic data on endochondral ossification for the axis in developing Miniature Schnauzers. This study was determined to the morphological features and development of growth plast in the axis of this experimental animals by histological and histochemical methods. The axis from 2 healthy Miniature Schnauzers(postnatal 6hr, 5week) was used. The obtained results were as follows : 1. In 5-week-old Miniature Schnauzer, the axis consisted of 4 separate ossification centers : centrum l, intercentrum 2, centrum 2 and epiphysis. Intercentrum 2 was intercalated between centrum 1 cranially, centrum 2 caudally. 2. The space of centrum 1 was more broader than the other ossification centers. 3. The zone of reserved chondrocytes was more extensive than the zone of proliferative chondrocytes, trabeculation was weakly observed, however, the proximal epiphyseal plate of axis was actively trabeculation observed in the zone of calcified chondrocytes. 4. Eighteen columns of chondrocytes were observed in the centrum 1 and five to seven columns of chondrocytes were observed in the centrum 2 of Miniature Schnauzer(postnatal 5 week) 5. A positive reaction to alcianophility was observed in all the territorial matrix at the zone of hypertrophic chondrocytes in this experimental animals.
Ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) can be defined as an ectopic ossification in the tissues of spinal ligament showing a hyperostotic condition. OPLL is developed mostly in the cervical spine and clinical presentations of OPLL are majorly myelopathy and/or radiculopathy, with serious neurological pathology resulting in paralysis of extremities and disturbances of motility lowering the quality of life. OPLL is known to be an idiopathic and multifactorial disease, which genetic factors and non-genetic factors including diet, obesity, physical strain on the posterior longitudinal ligament, age, and diabetes mellitus, are involved into the pathogenesis. Up to now, surgical management by decompressing the spinal cord is regarded as standard treatment for OPLL, although there might be the risk of development of reprogression of ossification. The molecular pathogenesis and efficient therapeutic strategy, especially pharmacotherapy and/or preventive intervention, of OPLL has not been clearly elucidated and suggested. Therefore, in this review, we tried to give an overview to the present research results on OPLL, in order to shed light on the potential pharmacotherapy based on molecular pathophysiologic aspect of OPLL, especially on the genetic/genomic factors involved into the etiology of OPLL.

Objectives : This study reports the clinical case of a patient diagnosed with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament treated with Korean Medicine focusing on Chuna therapy. Methods : The patient was treated by a doctor from July 18th, 2019 to November 28th, 2019. The patient was diagnosed with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament based on magnetic resonance imaging results and was recommended to undergo surgery at another hospital. The primary complaint of the patient was left neck pain, left arm sensation, right leg sensation, and right leg loss of strength. The doctor treated the patient with Chuna therapy, acupuncture, cupping, herbal medicine, and pharmacopuncture. The effect of treatment was evaluated using visual analogue scale, neck disability index, pain rating score and Japanese Orthopedic Association score. Spurling, compression, and distraction tests were utilized. Results : Visual analogue scale decreased from 10 at the arm and 10 at the leg to 1 and 2, respectively. Neck disability index decreased from 25 to 11, pain rating score decreased from 66 to 1, and Japanese Orthopedic Association score recovered from 12 to 17 points. In addition, positive spurling test, compression test, and distraction test all improved to negative. Conclusions : Korean medicine treatment can be effective for ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament patients, even when surgery is recommended. Further clinical studies, such as case series and case-control studies, are required to verify these findings.

Samples were obtained from broodstork in May, 1998, while naturally fertilized embryos were maintained and the process of skeletal development was observed from larvae and juveniles. Prelarvae immediately after hatching showed an average total length of $5.38{\pm}0.41mm$ (n=10), premaxillary and dentary were ossified, parasphenoid was ossified in the cranium, and centrum and caudal bone did not ossify. Prelarvae showed ossification with maxillary, articular and epihyal and branchiostegal rays of hyoid arch were ossified at 5 days after hatching with an average total length of $6.40{\pm}0.39mm$ (n=10). The vertebrae began to ossify in the direction of the tail, and neural spine began to ossify above the ossified vertebra. Postlarvae showed ossification of lateral ethmoid, parietal, and caudal skeleton in the cranium when the average total length was $7.30{\pm}0.12mm$ (n=10) in 8 days after hatching. At 22 days after hatching, postlarvae ossified maxillary in the cranium, and ossified endopterygoid and ectopterygoid, etc. in the palate, when the average length of $11.1{\pm}1.27mm$ (n=10). At 32 days after hatching, with the average length was $12.8{\pm}1.97mm$ (n=10), caudal skeleton had one additional epural bone ossification, resulting in ossification of a total of 3 epural bone to complete ossification of all spicules.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of warm needling therapy in a patient with cervical myelopathy caused by ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament. Methods : A 53-year-old Korean male patient diagnosed with cervical myelopathy due to ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament was treated with warm needling therapy on posterior neck aside from the routine inpatient treatment from June 26th to July 16th. Clinical improvement was evaluated with visual analogue scale(VAS), Japanese orthopedic score(JOA), grip and release test, finger escape sign and patient satisfaction was measured using a five-point Likert scale. Results : After 21 days of treatment, the patient showed improvement in VAS, JOA, grip and release test and finger escape sign. The patient also expressed satisfaction with the treatment. Conclusions : The results suggest that warm needling therapy may be an effective additional treatment for cervical myelopathy and other symptoms related to ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament(OPLL). Further studies should be carried out regarding possible long-lasting effects.
