Weld pool oscillation for the full-penetration GTA welding process was investigated for its possible application to weld penetration control through theoretical modeling and experiment. Energy method was used to estimate the natural frequency of the molten pool having the physically-acceptable weld geometry and oscillation modes. An unique experimental system was built which had the data acquisiton and video capabilities so that the pool oscillation signals and molten pool surfaces could be monitored continuously. Pool oscillation was detected through arc voltage and arc light emission simultaneously. The signal from arc light emission showed good coherence with that from arc voltage, and arc light generated the higher quality signal. The molten pool was found to oscillate in different oscillation modes based on the travel speed and weld geometry. The natural frequency estimated from the theoretical model agreed reasonably well with the experimental results.
When a feedback bridging fault is activated in a circuit, logical oscillation may occur at a signal line. If the oscillation appears, the fault may not be detected by logic testing. In order to detect such bridging faults, output logic values of the circuit should be measured at higher frequency than frequency of the logical oscillation. In this paper, a method fur estimating the maximum frequency of logical oscillation is proposed to detect such bridging faults in a circuit by logic testing. Also, it is shown by some experiments that such bridging faults can be detected by measuring output logic values at the frequency obtained by the method.

Reignition as special cases of acoustic pressure responses of flame are numerically studied by employing methanol droplet flame as a laminar flamelet. Quasi-steady flame responses occur in the range of small amplitude, low frequency oscillation. Reignition phenomena can occur when, by increasing the frequency of large amplitude acoustic pressure, the magnitude of characteristic acoustic time is the same order of that of characteristic reaction time of flames. And more increasing of amplitude of acoustic pressure induces the direct extinction of flame. Flame can sustain its own intensity even under the steady extinction temperature in case of high frequency acoustic oscillation, and this tendency is remarkable with increasing frequency. Reignition regime with respect to amplitude and frequency of acoustic pressure doesn't exist in low frequency($10^2$ Hz, in this study), but broadens with frequency of acoustic pressure.

The relationship between the excitation frequency and the vortex shedding frequency is analyzed during the oscillation of the circular cylinder. Two-dimension unsteady Navier-Stoke's equation is calculated by using the Optimized High Order Compact (OHOC) scheme. The flow condition is Mach number 0.3 and Reynold's number 1000. From the results acquired by calculation, it can be inferred that, when the excitation frequency is near the vortex shedding frequency at the fixed cylinder wake, the oscillation frequency of lift and drag coefficients appears to lock-on. The lock-on refers to a phenomenon in which the aerodynamic coefficient appears as one primary oscillation frequency through excitation and its amplitude is amplified. In the non-lock-on zone, the excitation frequency is not in the lock-on mode anymore and beat is formed in which two or more primary oscillation frequencies of the aerodynamic coefficient are mixed together.

Under the background of combustion instability in solid rocket motor, to study the relationship between pressure oscillations and dynamic process of propellant flames, it is necessary to simulate an oscillation environment with certain frequency, amplitude and duration. This paper presents an experimental installation of pressure oscillation based on pulse-driving technique, with which pressure oscillations features under different pulse-driving conditions were compared and analyzed. For the pulse-driver applied in this paper, a pressure oscillation with 0.15s-0.5s duration, 179Hz-210Hz first order frequency, 0.04MPa-0.35MPa amplitude is simulated. The test results show that an oscillation with higher frequency and lager amplitude can be obtained when pulse-driver is installed on the top of the installation cavity, while on the side, an oscillation with a longer duration and approximate cavity natural frequency can be simulated.
When a feedback bridging fault is activated, oscillation may be generated in output signal lines. If the oscillation is generated, the fault may not be detected by logic testing. Thus, in the past we proposed a current sensor to detect feedback bridging faults by supply current testing. The sensor circuit design requires the maximum frequency of oscillation which is generated when feedback bridging fault is excited as a specification. In this paper, an estimation method of the oscillation frequency is proposed. Also, it is shown by some experiments that the frequency obtained by the method can be used for the sensor design.

The aim of the present study is to provide fundamental informations for the development of magneticfluid actuator. To achieve the aim, oscillation characteristics of the magneticfluid plug are investigated by experiment for the various length and position of the magneticfluid plug and the frequency of magnetic field. The oscillation characteristics are obtained. Amplitude, natural frequency, phase shift and damping ratio, are compared with theoretical values. From the study, the following conclusive remarks can be made. The experimental equation for the magnetic field is obtained. The critical magneticfluid length exists and its value is about 70mm. The range of the damping ratio and fluid loss coefficient obtained by experiment are 0.1~0.2 and 30~100, respectively. Comparison between experimental and theoretical results of oscillation characteristics shows good agreement in the high frequency range. Meanwhile, in the low frequency range, there appears little discrepancies(5% in the frequency and amplitude and 10% in phase difference and damping ratio) with each other.

An idea to suppress the self-excited combustion oscillation was applied to the flames. The characteristics of unsteady combustion were examined and the unsteady combustion was driven by forced pulsating mixture supply that can modulate its amplitude and frequency. The self-excited combustion oscillation having weaker flow velocity fluctuation intensity than that of the forced pulsating supply can be suppressed by this method. The effects of the forced pulsation amplitude and frequency on controlling self-excited combustion oscillations were also investigated comparing with the steady mixture supply. The unsteady combustion used in this experiment plays an important role in controlling self-excited combustion oscillation. Symptoms of self-excited combustion oscillation were also studied in order to predict the onset of combustion oscillation before it proceeded to a catastrophic failure For the purpose, the unique measures to observe the onset of self-excited combustion oscillations based on the careful statistics of fluctuating properties in flames, such as pressure or emission of OH radicals, have been proposed.

In the present study, the characteristics of pressure oscillation and heat transfer performance in an oscillating capillary tube heat pipe were experimentally investigated with respect to the heat flux, the charging ratio of working fluid, and the inclination angle to the horizontal orientation. The experimental results showed that the frequency of pressure oscillation was between 0.1 Hz and 1.5 Hz at the charging ratio of 40 vol.%. The saturation pressure of working fluid in the oscillating capillary tube heat pipe increased as the heat flux was increased. Also, as the charging ratio of working fluid was increased, the amplitude of pressure oscillation increased. When the pressure waves were symmetric sinusoidal waves at the charging ratios of 40 vol.% and 60 vol.%, the heat transfer performance was improved. At the charging ratios of 20 vol.% and 80 vol.%, the waveforms of pressure oscillation were more complicated, and the heat transfer performance reduced. At the charging ratio of 40. vol.%, the heat transfer performance of the OCHP was at the best when the inclination angle was 90$^{\circ}$ the pressure wave was a sinusoidal waveform, the pressure difference was at the least, the oscillation amplitude was at the least, and the frequency of pressure oscillation was the highest.

This paper presents a design methodology for improving dynamic stiffness of an inspection robot frame to prevent resonance. Finite element models of robot frame are developed for natural frequency analysis. Natural frequency analysis of robot frame is conducted to compare with sub-span oscillation which is excitation frequency. Reinforcement beams are applied to the sensitive parts of the robot frame to improve dynamic stiffness using case study. To reduce mass of the robot frame, thickness optimization of the robot frame is carried out by utilizing response surface method. The result of optimization show that dynamic stiffness of robot frame is increased. As a result, natural frequency of an optimal model is not included in range of frequencies of the sub-span oscillation.
