  • In this paper, a K-band local oscillator composed of a VCDRO(Voltage Controlled Dielectric Resonator Oscillator), GaAs MESFET, and Reflector type frequency doubler has been designed and fabricated. TO obtain a good phase noise performance of a VCDRO, a active device was selected with a low noise figure and a low flicker noise MESFET and a dielectric resonator was used for selecting stable and high oscillation frequency. Especially, to have a higher conversion gain than a conventional doubler as well as a good harmonic suppression performance with circuit size reduced a doubler structure was employed as the Reflector type composed of a reflector and a open stub of quarter wave length for rejecting the unwanted harmonics. The measured results of fabricated oscillator show that the output power was 5.8 dBm at center frequency 12.05 GHz and harmonic suppression -37.98 dBc, Phase noise -114 dBc at 100 KHz offset frequency, respectively, and measured results show of fabricated frequency doubler, the output power at 5.8 dBm of input power is 1.755 dBm conversion gain 1.482 dB, harmonic suppression -33.09 dBc, phase noise -98.23 dBc at 100 KHz offset frequency, respectively. This oscillator could be available to a local oscillator in K-band which used frequency doubler techniques.

  • In this paper, T5 28-watt fluorescent lamp ballast using a piezoelectric transformer is fabricated and its characteristic is investigated. Developed electronic ballast is composed of basic circuits and blocks, such as rectifier part, active power factor corrector part, frequency oscillation part using microcontroller and feedback control, piezoelectric transformer and resonant half bridge inverters. The fabricated ballast uses to variable frequency methode in external so exciting that the frequency of piezoelectric transformer could be generated by voltage control oscillator using microcontroller(AT90S4433). The current of fluorescent lamp is detected by feedback control circuit. The signal of inverter output is received using Piezoelectric transformer, and then its output transmitted to fluorescent lamp. Traditional electromagnetic ballasts operated at 50-60Hz have been suffered from noticeable flicker, high loss, large crest factor and heavy weight. A new electronic ballast is operated at high frequency about 75kHz, and then Input power factor, distortion of total harmonic and lamp current crest factor are measured about 0.9!35, 12H and 1.5, respectively Accordingly, the traditional ballast is by fabricated electronic ballast using piezoelectric transformer and voltage control oscillator because of its lighter weight, high efficiency, economic merit and saving energy.

  • In this paper, the oscillator type active antenna used as an element of active phased array antenna is designed and fabricated using slot coupling. The radiating element and active circuit are fabricated on each layer respectively and coupled electromagnetically through slot on the ground plane. This structure can solve the problems such as narrow bandwidth of microstrip antenna, spurious radiation by active circuits, and spaces for integration of the feeding circuits which are caused by integrating antennas with oscillator circuits in the same layer. The active antenna in this paper, the oscillation frequency can be tuned linearly by controlling the drain bias voltage of FET. The frequency tuning range is between 12.37 GHz to 12.65 GHz when bias voltage is varied from 3V to 9V, thus frequency tuning bandwidth is 280 MHz (2.24%). The output power of antenna is uniform within 5dB over frequency tuning range. Therefore this active antenna can be used as an element of linear or planar active phased array antennas.

  • In this paper, we proposed a heart activity control model for simulation of the aortic sinus baroreceptor, which was the most representative baroreceptor sensing the variance of pressure in the cardiovascular system. And then, the heart activity control model composed electric circuit model of the cardiovascular system with baroreflex control and time delay sub-model to observe the effect of time delay in heart period and stroke volume under the regulation of baroreflex in the aortic sinus. The mechanism of time delay in the heart activity baroreflex control model is as follows. A control function is conduct sensing pressure information in the aortic sinus baroreceptor to transmit the efferent nerve through central nervous system. As simulation results of the proposed model, we observed three patterns of the cardiovascular system variability by the time delay. First of all, if the time delay over 2.5 second, aortic pressure and stroke volume and heart rate was observed non-periodically and irregularly. However, if the time delay from 0.1 second to 0.25 second, the regular oscillation was observed. And then, if time delay under 0.1 second, then heart rate and aortic pressure-heart rate trajectory were maintained in stable state.

  • In this study, we developed an electron-emission OH radical generator for waste water treatment. The stability of the circuitry was ensured by implementing stable pulse waves with a MOSFET and reducing the momentary current rise. The OH radical generator uses a high-voltage and low-current discharger. The performance of the device was evaluated experimentally, which showed that it is possible to produce a stable and uniform pulse waveform for the drain current of the power MOSFET, which is connected to the input side of an AC multiplying converter through negative feedback circuitry with CR-snubber architecture. It was also possible to reduce the excitation current of the converter and improve the stability of the oscillation circuit. In addition, the generator can generate hydroxyl radicals stably. The bactericidal activities were also evaluated, and the germicidal power for E. coli, S. aureus, and S. flexneriwas improved by 99.9% or more after 60 minutes.

Also, we designed and fabricated a 3 dB tandem coupler which has a high isolation and wideband characteristic. The single balanced resistive mixer which does not require an external IF balun was designed using the 0.1 ${\mu}m$ InGaAs/InAlAs/GaAs metamorphic HEMT(High Electron Mobility Transistor). The DC characteristics of MHEMT's are 665 mA/mm of drain current density, 691 mS/mm of maximum transconductance. The current gain cut-off frequency($f_T$) is 189 GHz and the maximum oscillation frequency($f_{max}$) is 334 GHz. A 94 GHz single balanced cascode mixer was fabricated using our 0.1 ${\mu}m$ MHEMT MIMIC process. From the measurements, the fabricated couplers showed wideband characteristics. The conversion loss of single balanced cascode mixer was 9.8 dB at an LO power of 10.9 dBm. The LO to RF isolation of single balanced cascode mixer was 29.5 dB at 94 GHz. We obtained in this study a higher LO-RF isolation compared to some other single balanced mixers.
