  • In this paper, heat transfer and pressure oscillation characteristics on oscillating capillary tube heat pipe(OCHP) according to input heat flux, mixture ratio of working fluid and inclination angle were investigated and were compared single working fluid(R-142b) with binary mixture working fluid(R-142b-Ethano1). OCHP was made to serpentine structure of loop type with 10 turns by drilling the channels of length 220mm, width 1.5mm, and depth 1.5mm on the surface of brass plate. In this study, R-l42b and R-l42b-Ethanol were used as working fluids, the charging ratio of working fluids was 40(vol.%), the input heat flux to evaporating section was changed from 0.3W/㎠ to 1.8W/㎠, and mixture ratio of working fluid was R(100%), R(95%)-E(5%), R(90%)-E(10%), and R(85%)-E(15%). From the experimental results, it was found that the effective thermal conductivity of single working fluid was better than that of binary mixture working fluid. But, in case of binary mixture working fluid, critical heat flux was higher than that of single working fluid. And, the higher the mixture ratios of working fluid, the lower heat transfer performance. In case of pressure oscillation, as the inclination angle was lower, pressure wave was more irregular. These phenomena were more serious when the working fluid was binary mixture. Besides, when mixture ratio was higher, saturated pressure was increased, more irregular wave was observed and the mean amplitude was increased. For the same input heat flux, inclination angle and charging ratio, when pressure oscillation has sinusoidal wave, mean amplitude was small, and saturated pressure was low value, the heat transfer was excellent.

  • In process of reinforced concrete(RC) box structure, the heat of hydration may cause serious thermal cracking problems. In order to eliminate hydration heat of mass concrete, this paper reports results of hydration heat control in mass concrete using the OCHP(Oscillating Capillary tube Heat Pipe). Recently OCHP is drawn special attention from these points of low cost as well as short construction schedule for the manufacturing of heat exchanger, flexibility, simplification and high performance. There were three RC box molds$(1.2{\times}1.2{\times}1.2m)$ which shows a difference as compared with each other. One was not equipped with OCHP. While others were equipped with OCHP and these were cooled with air natural convection and spraying water respectively. The OCHP was composed of copper pipe with 12 turns(O.D : 4mm, I.D : 2.8mm). The working fluid was R-22 and its charging ratio was 30(Vol. %). In order to analyze the distribution of temperature and index figure of thermal crack in sequential placement of mass concrete, we used HYCON of computer program. As a result of the experiment, the peak temperature decreased about $15.6\sim23.4^{\circ}C$ than the general specimen and the probability of thermal crack generated in mass concrete decreased up to 0%.

But the concrete temperature with OCHP was reduced its difference in temperature with the outdoor temperature to $12^{\circ}C$. Finally we saw the index figure of the thermal crack of the structures were varied from 0.75 to 1.47.

  • Heat transfer by laminar oscillating flow in a circular pipe has been studied analytically. The general solution with respect to the arbitrary wall boundary condition is obtained by superposing the fluid temperatures with the sinusoidal wall temperature distributions. The fulid temperature distributions are two dimensional, but uniform flow assumption is used to simplify the velocity distribution. The heat transfer characteristics in the thermally developing regions are analyzed by applying the general solution to the two cases of thermal boundary conditions in which the wall temperature and wall heat flux distributions have a square-wave form, respectively. The results show that the length of the thermally developing region becomes larger in proportion to the oscillation frequency at slow oscillation and eventually approaches to the value comparable to the swept distance as the frequency increases. The time and cross-section averaged Nusselt number in the developing region is inversely proportional to the square root of the distance from the position where the wall boundary condition is changed suddenly. In the developed region, Nusselt number is only determined by the oscillation frequency.

  • Bubble jet loop heat pipe is what heat pipe operate in the horizontality. It is consist of one heating part creating bubble and one rounded U tube type radiator. This study shows whether the heat pipe operates well in the horizontality or not, and what optimized refrigerant charging rate is in the tube. But flow visualization of bubble jet heat pipe was not known. The purpose of this study is to visualize bubble jet loop heat pipe. The experiment was performed by changes of charging rate. Working fluid was R-141b. And heater of 220 V & 100 W was used. we take a photograph of flow visualization of bubble jet loop heat pipe in slow motion.

  • The two-phase flow patterns for both non-loop and loop type oscillating capillary tube heat pipes (OCHPs) were presented in this study. The detailed flow patterns were recorded by a high-speed digital camera for each experimental condition to understand exactly the operation mechanism of the OCHP. The design and operation conditions of the OCHP such as turn number, working fluid, and heat flux were varied. The experimental results showed that the representative flow pattern in the evaporating section of the OCHP was the oscillation of liquid slugs and vapor plugs based on the generation and growth of bubbles by nucleate boiling. As the oscillation of liquid slugs and vapor plugs was very speedy, the flow pattern changed from the capillary slug flow to a pseudo slug flow near the annular flow. The flow of short vapor-liquid slug-train units was the flow pattern in the adiabatic section. In the condensing section, it was the oscillation of liquid slugs and vapor plugs and the circulation of working fluid. The oscillation flow in the loop type OCHP was more active than that in the non-loop type OCHP due to the circulation of working fluid in the OCHP. When the turn number of the OCHP was increased, the oscillation and circulation of working fluid was more active as well as forming the oscillation wave of long liquid slugs and vapor plugs in the OCHP. The oscillation flow of R-142b as the working fluid was more active than that of ethanol and the high efficiency of the heat transfer performance of R -142b was achieved.
