  • The present paper is focused on analyzing a set of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation data on reducing orthogonal peak base moment coefficients on a high-rise rectangular building with wings. The study adopts an aerodynamic optimization procedure (AOP) composed of CFD, artificial neural network (ANN), and genetic algorithm (G.A.). A parametric study is primarily accomplished by altering the wing positions with 3D transient CFD analysis using k - ε turbulence models. The CFD technique is validated by taking up a wind tunnel test. The required design parameters are obtained at each design point and used for training ANN. The trained ANN models are used as surrogates to conduct optimization studies using G.A. Two single-objective optimizations are performed to minimize the peak base moment coefficients in the individual directions. An additional multiobjective optimization is implemented with the motivation of diminishing the two orthogonal peak base moments concurrently. Pareto-optimal solutions specifying the preferred building shapes are offered.

  • This paper suggests the minimum number of vertex guards algorithm. Given n rooms, the exact number of minimum vertex guards is proposed. However, only approximation algorithms are presented about the maximum number of vertex guards for polygon and orthogonal polygon without or with holes. Fisk suggests the maximum number of vertex guards for polygon with n vertices as follows. Firstly, you can triangulate with n-2 triangles. Secondly, 3-chromatic vertex coloring of every triangulation of a polygon. Thirdly, place guards at the vertices which have the minority color. This paper presents the minimum number of vertex guards using dominating set. Firstly, you can obtain the visibility graph which is connected all edges if two vertices can be visible each other. Secondly, you can obtain dominating set from visibility graph or visibility matrix. This algorithm applies various art galley problems. As a results, the proposed algorithm is simple and can be obtain the minimum number of vertex guards.

  • This paper introduces an adaptive wavelet transform based on the lifting scheme, which is applied to signal denoising. The wavelet representation using orthogonal wavelet bases has received widespread attention. Recently the lifting scheme has been developed for the construction of biorthogonal wavelets in the spatial domain. Wavelet transforms are performed through three stages: the first stage or Lazy wavelet splits the data into two subsets, even and odd, the second stage calculates the wavelet coefficients (highpass) as the failure to interpolate or predict the odd set using the even, and the third stage updates the even set using neighboring odd points (wavelet coefficients) to compute the scaling function coefficients (lowpass). In this paper, we adaptively find some of the prediction coefficients for better representation of signals and this customizes wavelet transforms to provide an efficient framework for denoising. Special care has been given to the boundaries, where we design a set of different prediction coefficients to reduce the prediction error.

  • A general purpose program NUFLEX has been extended for two-phase flows with topologically complex interface and cavitation flows with liquid-vapor phase change caused by large pressure drop. In analysis of two-phase flow, the phase interfaces are tracked by employing a LS(Level Set) method. Compared with the VOF(Volume-of-Fluid} method based on a non-smooth volume-fraction function, the LS method can calculate an interfacial curvature more accurately by using a smooth distance function. Also, it is quite straightforward to implement for 3-D irregular meshes compared with the VOF method requiring much more complicated geometric calculations. Also, the cavitation process is computed by including the effects of evaporation and condensation for bubble formation and collapse as well as turbulence in flows. The volume-faction and continuity equations are adapted for cavitation models with phase change. The LS and cavitation formulation are implemented into a general purpose program for 3-D flows and verified through several test problems.

  • This paper presents a validation of the accuracy of a reduced order model(ROM) and the efficiency of the design optimization using a Proper Orthogonal Decomposition(POD) to transonic wing/fuselage system. Three dimensional Euler equations are solved to extrude snapshot data of the full order aerodynamic analysis, and then a set of POD basis vectors reproducing the behavior of flow around the wing/fuselage system is calculated from these snapshots. In this study, reduced order model constructed through this procedure is applied to several validation cases, and then it is confirmed that the ROM has the capability of the prediction of flow field in the space of interest. Additionally, after the design optimization of the wing/fuselage system with the ROM is performed, results of the ROM are compared with results of the design optimization using response surface model(RSM). From these, it can be confirmed that the design optimization with the ROM is more efficient than RSM.

  • Orthogonal Cross Cylinder mapping and segmentation based modeling methods have been implemented for constructing the image-based navigation system in this paper. The Orthogonal Cross Cylinder (OCC) is the object expressed by the intersection area that occurs when a cylinder is orthogonal with another. OCC mapping method eliminates the singularity effect caused in the environment maps and shows an almost even amount of area for the environment occupied by a single texel. A full-view image from a fixed point-of-view can be obtained with OCC mapping although it becomes difficult to express another image when the point-of-view has been changed. The OCC map is segmented according to the objects that form the environment and the depth value is set by the characteristics of the classified objects for the segmentation based modeling. This method can easily be implemented on an environment map and makes the environment modeling easier through extracting the depth value by the image segmentation. An environment navigation system with a full-view can be developed with these methods.

  • A simple orthogonal mode transducer(OMT) for X-band has been proposed in this paper. This OMT is designed such that a polarized wave can be guided in a direction using several thin guiding posts, and the other orthogonally polarized wave can be guided in the other direction using other thin guiding posts. The OMT consists of a T-shaped waveguide section with guiding posts, two tapering waveguide arms, and has three flanges for connection with two adapters and an antenna. The optimum numbers and the optimum positions of the guiding posts were obtained numerically using the HFSS CAD tool. The isolation between two polarizations in a manufactured OMT is higher than 42.8 dB and the reflection from the OMT is lower than -17.5 dB at the frequency band of 9.5 GHz

  • Image compression is now essential for applications such as transmission and storage in data bases. For video and digital image applications the use of long tap filters, while not providing any significant coding gain, may increase the hardware complexity. We use a wavelet transform in order to obtain a set of bi-orthogonal sub-classes of images; First, the design of short kernel symmetric analysis is presented in 1-dimensional case. Second, the original image is decomposed at different scales using a subband filter banks. Third, this paper is presented a technique for obtaining 2-dimensional bi-orthogonal filters using McClellan transform. It is shown that suggested wavelet bases is well used on wavelet transform for image compression. From performance comparison of bi-orthogonal filter, we actually use filters close to ortho-normal filters on application of wavelet bases to image analysis.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel unsupervised feature selection method. Conventional unsupervised feature selection method defines virtual label and uses a regression analysis that projects the given data to this label. However, since virtual labels are generated from data, they can be formed similarly in the space. Thus, in the conventional method, the features can be selected in only restricted space. To solve this problem, in this paper, features are selected using orthogonal projections and low-rank approximations. To solve this problem, in this paper, a virtual label is projected to orthogonal space and the given data set is also projected to this space. Through this process, effective features can be selected. In addition, projection matrix is restricted low-rank to allow more effective features to be selected in low-dimensional space. To achieve these objectives, a cost function is designed and an efficient optimization method is proposed. Experimental results for six data sets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing conventional unsupervised feature selection methods in most cases.

  • DS-CDMA system has very low bandwidth efficiency, hence it is difficult to maintain high spreading gain for high speed data transmission. Offset stacked spreading CDMA(OSS-CDMA) is a transmission scheme where spreading codes with chip offsets are overlapped, then transmitted. This kind of system requires a code set that guarantees orthogonality between codes in the set of any cjip offset. An orthogonal complementary code set has a property that the crosscorrelation function between codes in the group is zero for all shifts, hence it can be used for an OSS-CDMA system. In an OCC-OSS CDMA system each user is assigned an orthogonal complementary code group. User data bit is spread by the given codes and overlapped, and the code sequences are transmitted with multicarrier. However, the offset stacked spread sequences are multilevel, and the number of symbol levels is increases as the spreading efficiency is increased. When the OSS sequence is transmitted with MPSK mapping, the signal constellation becomes dense, and the system is easily affected by channel impairments. In this paper, we propose a level clipping scheme on OSS sequence before MPSK modulated. Simulations have been carried out to investigate the BER performance of the OCC-OSS CDMA system in AWGN environment. The results show that proposed scheme outperform the scheme without level clipping.
