Second order VOF convection model in curvilinear coordinates

  • An approximation technique was developed for the simulation of free surface flows in non-orthogonal coordinates. The main idea of this approach is to approximate VOF by the second order linear equation in the transformed domain on the assumption that the continuity of free surface would be maintained. The method was justified through a set of numerical test to examine if its original shape could be maintained when the circles are convected in uniform velocity in horizontal direction in curvilinear coordinates. Finally a simple problem was solved by applying the method to CFX4.1 general purpose CFDS code.

  • 송신단에 다중안테나를 사용하는 송신 다이버시티 기법에 대한 연구가 최근 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access)2000과 3GPP(The third generation partnership project)에서 고려한 개루프 송신 다이버시티 기법인 STTD(Space time transmit diversify), OTD (Orthogonal transmit diversity), STS(Space time spreading)를 다수 반송파 CDMA 시스템에 적용시킬 경우 하향링크 (Downlink)에서의 성능을 평가한다. STS와 STTD방식은 동일한 성능을 보이지만 STS방식은 복잡도와 높은 PAR(Peak to average ratio)의 단점을 보이며, OTD는 이 두 방식에 비해 성능이 떨어지는 것을 보여준다.

  • In this paper, performance of a turbo-coded OFDM system is analyzed and simulated in a power line communication channel. Since the power line communication system typically operates in a hostile environment, turbo code has been employed to enhance reliability of transmitted data. The performance is evaluated in terms of bit error probability. As turbo decoding algorithms, MAP (maximum a posteriori), Max-Log-MAP, and SOVA (soft decision Viterbi output) algorithms are chosen and their performances are compared. From simulation results, it is demonstrated that Max-Log-MAP algorithm is promising in terms of performance and complexity. It is shown that performance is substantially improved by increasing the number of iterations and interleaver length of a turbo encoder. The results in this paper can be applied to OFDM-based high-speed power line communication systems.

BER Performance of Cooperative Transmission for the Uplink of TDD-CDMA Systems

  • In time division duplex (TDD) code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, chip-synchronous transmission in the uplink is obtainable, thus leading to free multiple access interference in flat Rayleigh fading channels plus additive white Gaussian noise. This motivates us to develop a novel cooperative transmission strategy that allows single-antenna devices to benefit from spatial diversity using orthogonal signature sequences. The proposed cooperation is applicable to many digital modulation methods and achieves the fullest diversity level, low implementation complexity, and a full data rate. Closed-form bit-error-rate expressions were also derived and compared to simulation results in order to evaluate its validity. A variety of numerical results demonstrated the cooperation's superiority over single transmission under the same transmit power constraint.

Compressible Boundary Layer Stability Analysis With Parabolized Stability Equations

  • An accurate and cost efficient method PSE is used for the stability analysis of 2D or 3D compressible boundary layers. A highly accurate finite difference PSE code has been developed at a general curvilinear coordinate system using an implicit marching procedure to deal with a broad range of transition predictions problems. Evolution of disturbances in compressible flat plate boundary layers are studied for free-stream Mach numbers ranging from 0 to 1.5. The effect of mean-flow nonparallelism is found to be weak on two dimensional waves and strong on three dimensional waves. The maximum amplification rate increases monotonically with Mach number. The present PSE solutions are compared with previous numerical investigations and experimental results and are found to be in good agreement.

  • The hydrodynamic instability of the three-dimensional boundary-layer over a rotating disk has been numerically investigated for three cases flows using linear stability theory (i.e. Rossby number, Ro = -1, 0, and 1). Detailed numerical values of the disturbance wave number, wave frequency, azimuth angle, radius (Reynolds number, Re) and other characteristics have been calculated for $K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n$, Ekman and $B{\"{o}}ewadt$ boundary-layer flows. Neutral curves for these flows are presented. Presented are the neutral stability results concerning the two instability modes (Type I and Type II) by using a two-point boundary value problem code COLUEW that was based upon the adaptive orthogonal collocation method using B-spline. The prediction from the present results on both instability modes among the three cases agrees with the previously known numerical and experimental data well.

  • This paper presents an effective numerical method for analyzing three-dimensional unsteady conjugate heat transfer problems of a curved pipe subjected to infernally thermal stratification. In the present numerical analyses, the thermally stratified flows in the pipe are simulated using the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$turbulent model and the unsteady conjugate heat transfer is treated numerically with a simple and convenient numerical technique. The unsteady conjugate heat transfer analysis method is implemented in a finite volume thermal-hydraulic computer code based on a non-staggered grid arrangement, SIMPLEC algorithm and higher-order bounded convection scheme. Numerical calculations have been performed far the two cases of thermally stratified pipe flows where the surging directions are opposite each other i.e. In-surge and out-surge. The results show that the present numerical analysis method is effective to solve the unsteady flow and conjugate heat transfer in a curved pipe subjected to infernally thermal stratification.

  • 광섬유는 수십THz이상의 넓은 대역폭과 0.2-0.4 dB/Km의 적은 전송손실의 우수성을 가지고 있으므로 이를 CDMA시스템에 적용하면 고속, 대용량의 데이터 전송 및 비동기식 전송의 장점이 있으므로 광 LAN이나 광 교환기 등의 광통신 네트워크에 유용하게 사용할 수 있다$^{[1][2]}$ . 그러나 광CDMA시스템은 다수 사용자가 동시에 데이터를 전송할 때 다른 사용자의 데이터 전송으로부터 발생되는 오류정보를 최소화하기 위해 최적의 자기상관 및 상호상관특성을 가져야 자신의 정보데이터를 복원할 수 있다$^{[3]}$ . 따라서 본 논문에서는 광섬유 지연선을 이용한 광 CDMA시스템에서 코드구성을 광 직교 코드로 하였을 경우 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통한 시스템 해석에 대하여 서술한다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해 광 직교 코드를 사용한 경우 사용자수가 증가함에 따른 최적의 자기상관 및 상호상관특성을 갖는 코드를 구하고, 임계값 변화에 따른 에러확률을 분석한다.   • Numerical study of three-dimensional turbulent flow in a forward curved centrifugal fan is presented. Standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinates are used to consider the turbulent flow field and complex geometry. Finite Volume approach is adopted for discretization scheme and structured grid system is used to help convergence. Multiblock grid system is used for flow field and divided into five domains that are inlet, outlet, impeller, tip clearance and scroll. It is assumed that the flow field is steady state and incompressible. This numerical work is performed with commercial CFD-ACE code developed by CFD Research Corporation, and the results are compared wi th the experimental data

  • AOC-SS (Advanced Orthogonal Code-Spread Spectrum) modulation [1] is a flexible scheme to obtain a multi-rate transmission but PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) increases in proportion to the number of AOCs and thus, the mapping technique is proposed to solve this problem. Moreover, by combining with space-time coding (STC), AOC-SS is capable of resistance to multi-path fading. The simulation programs have been performed to verify the validity of the suggested scheme.
