  • Background : Recently, Medical Act was amended to encourage the induction of combined treatment between Oriental Medicine doctors and Western doctors. As yet, the information infra for combined treatment has not been studied. Objectives : This study aimed to design the architecture of information system for combined treatment of the Oriental and the Western Medicine. Methods : First, we defined the information of combined treatment through the analysis of research trends from the inside and outside of the country. Because the data compatibility is very important, the definition of information must be ahead of anything else. Second, we designed the architecture of information system based on the prior definition. Results : We classified the information for combined treatment by subject such as law, clinic, research, manpower, facilities, and education. In this paper information system examined in three aspects. First the infra layer is organized as hardware, netware, and security. Second is data warehouse layer for the storing, filtering, and extraction of data. Third is service layer which is related to data transmission. And Finally all information for combined treatment is provided through the portal system for medical consumer, political planner, and R&D researcher. Conclusion : In this paper, we studied the essential factors of combined treatment information in the view point of information system. But the detailed design and implementation of information system must be followed to effect this results.

  • Objectives : Many studies have shown that helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is associated with gastroduodenal diseases. The purpose of this report was to evaluate recently published research on the influence of oriental herbal medicine on H. pylori infections. Methods : Recently published literature were systematically compared with their findings of how oriental herbal medical treatment affects H. pylori-associated disease. Results : The eradication rate of H. pylori in oriental herbal medicine groups was 66.93% while it was 66.02% in western medicine groups. In oriental herbal plus western medicine groups, interestingly, the rate increased to 84.78%. On the other hand, the total treatment efficacy rate of H. pylori in oriental herbal medicine groups was 91.27%. The treatment efficacy rate in oriental herbal plus western medicine groups rose to a record 93.22%, which was 15.34% higher than the rate in western medicine groups. In addition, the rate of adverse effects was 2.71%, 4.85%, 15.80% in oriental herbal medicine, western medicine, and oriental herbal plus western medicine groups, respectively. Diarrhea was most frequently observed in oriental herbal medicine groups, while nausea was most frequently observed in the other groups. Conclusions : The results of this study showed that herbal medicinal treatment can increase the rate of H. pylori eradication and improve H. pylori-related gastrointestinal symptoms. These findings suggest that herbal medicine can solve the problems including side effects due to antibiotic resistance of standard triple therapy.

Result: Herbal medicine was applied on the basis of the patient's history. We applied formular to remove phelgm as a pathogenic factor after Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy. At the same time, considering the patient spent more than a month in ICU lacking appropriate nutrition, we used formuli on the basis of 'Deficiency of Spleen' focusing to vitalize the function of digestive system. As the condition of the patient changed, we also adapted formular accordingly. We prescribed Herbal medication to strengthen Yin and Yang equally as she got hospitalized for long time. Also we applied Acupuncture treatment and Moxibustion treatment to control Qi flow. The general condition of the patient got better with successful removal of Foley catheter and elevated Glasgow Coma scale. We used Electroacupuncture, Physical treatment and Western medication at the same to get maximized effect on relaxing the contracted muscle. According to the Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS), we have some changes in muscle spasticity but later, the effect was not that significant. Conclusion : We had a patient with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy followed by Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. In the management of Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy, Conservative treatments are the mainstream but there are not many alternatives. Therefore, We suggest that Oriental medical approach may contribute to the management of Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy.

  • In this study, a patient with both motor and vocal tic disorders of onset at age 34 was treated for a total of 316 days. The characteristics of the tic symptoms of the patient were examined and treated two to three times a week with herbal medicine, acupuncture, cupping, and habit reversal treatment along with western medication prescribed to the patient from a psychiatric clinic. Furthermore, the condition of the patient was evaluated once a week by the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale(YGTSS-K). Both motor and vocal tic symptoms deceased to a great amount after treatment and the patient was able to lower the dosage of western medication with the approval of her psychiatric doctor. This case suggests that Oriental medical treatment undergone with habit reversal treatment could improve tic disorders better than sole western medication treatment.
