Analysis of Oriental Pediatrics Clinic Web Sites in Korea (소아를 주요 대상으로 하는 한의원 웹사이트의 분석 및 고찰)

  • Objectives : The Internet is closely related to the live of modern people in the 21st Century. With increasing interest in health and disease of children, the public has access to a growing supply of information on oriental pediatrics clinic through Internet. The purpose of this study is to collect and analyze the Internet web sites concerning oriental pediatrics clinic in Korea, and study the effectiveness of internet toward oriental pediatrics. Methods : We selected 42 web sites by searching for such keyword as child and oriental Medical clinic at korea major web search engine. The sites were evaluated and analyzed on the basis of 24 is under three evaluation criteria such as quality of contents, the easy of use, reliability of web sites. Results: Study results indicated that 34% of web sites were built in 2004, 58% of oriental pediatrics clinic was located in Seoul & Kyunggi and 84% of them was connected network medical system. About health information was supplied in oriental pediatrics clinic web sites, the growth was high frequent information, 50% of web sites supplied high quality information and 19% of them was supplied high diversity information. Conclusions: It is necessary to control system as information certification system in the area of oriental pediatrics clinic web sites.

  • Objectives Oriental pediatrics during the Late-Joseon dynasty had constantly developed positively, independently, originally, but had declined since Japanese invasion because the western medicine flowed into Korea and Japanese imperialism carried our the oriental medical obliterating policy. As a effort of the oriental medical group that coped with the policy of Japanese imperialism, there were publication of oriental medical academic journal and there were the most important data. Those were the bases of our study which was about the tendencies of oriental pediatrics in modern Korea. Methods We studied academic journals on oriental medicine in Knowledge of Oriental Medicine Web Service and selected 31 volumes of nine academic journals our of 80 volumes of twelve academic journals, which were about pediatrics. Results and Conclusions Research into these journals has derived the conclusion that the oriental pediatrics academic trends at the time were transformed into new state which were brought the interaction and were balanced with the merit of oriental-western medicine.

Analysis of Articles Published in The Journal of Korean Oriental Pediatrics (대한한방소아과학회지에 수록된 논문의 분석 및 고찰)

  • Objective: Organization of articles have study design, make hypothesis, sample gathering, statical analysis and feasibility of conclusion and medical articles must be continuously published and be continuously monitored in order to raise the quality of research. Main characteristics of oriental pediatrics research in korea can be summarized as the increase of the number and the advances methodology in research. The purpose of this study was to analyze the trends and evaluate the level of oriental pediatrics. Methods: The subjects were 244 articles published during the from 1986 to 2002 in 'The Journal of Korean Oriental Pediatrics' In this study, all the articles pressed in this journal were divided into three classes, Iiteratural, experimental and clinical articles and these were surveyed their chronological and thematic distribution Results: Classifying the articles in the journal of the korean oriental pediatrics, there were 103(42.2%) literatural articles, 90(36.9%) clinical articles, 51(20.9%) experimental articles. Clinical articles is gradually increasing although Iiteratural articles is decreasing. About disease in oriental pediatrics, immunoactivity was 13, rhinitis and growth was 12, allergy was 11 and diarrhea was high frequent in literatural articles, statistics of chief complaints and rhinitis was high frequent in clinical articles, immunoactivity was high frequent in experimental articles. Conclusions: As can be seen from the above results, there has been many these published using various experimental methods and relating to oriental pediatrics on the symptoms and diseases and their treatments, but unfortunately they were not enough the transmission of meaning of theses and contribution of learning, because how to do theses was not unifonn and description was not evident. It is needed more careful attention and study in the method of theses works in order to further develop the specialty of oriental pediatrics.

A Survey of Actual Guides for Children to Take the Oriental Medicine in the Oriental Clinics & the Oriental Hospitals (한의원과 한방병원에서 행해지고 있는 소아에 대한 한약복약지도 현황 조사 연구)

  • Objectives Children's unique taste bud often gives them difficult time to take oriental medicines. To overcome, survey was conducted focusing on useful and practical tips on how to take them. Methods The survey was carried out by posting mail questionnaire. Target clinics for the survey were selected by the internet search engine, Google, Daum, and Naver, and typing in "oriental treatment + pediatrics", "pediatrics + oriental medicine", "pediatric oriental clinic". 24 clinics were searched, but they were further narrowed down to the specialized pediatric oriental clinics. Also, total of 38 inquiry leaflets were distributed to 14 University Oriental Hospitals. Results If children refuse to take the medicine, mixture with sweeteners can be prescribed for them. Among them, oligosaccharide is the most recommended followed by sugar and honey. To avoid rejection to medication, use of different formulation, such as distillation medicine, soft X-Section, granulated medicine, and character printing can be used. Conclusions The most effective method is to investigate the mixture first, and then the alternative formulations.

Clinical Investigation of Medical Treatment in Korean Oriental Pediatrics by Focusing on the University Oriental Medicine Hospital 5 Clinics (한방소아과 치료법에 관한 임상현황연구;대학 부속 한방병원 5개 클리닉을 중심으로)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the present medical treatment in Korean oriental pediatrics. Methods : We selected 24 hospitals attached to 11 colleges of oriental medicine those stand for oriental pediatrics. We sent questionnaires of medical treatment for investigation and analyzed 15 copies of those were answered. Results : The most popular treatment was medicinal therapy. Acupuncture with medicinal therapy was not used as much, but laser acupuncture was used five times more in rhinitis. The frequency of using moxibustion and cupping were less than acupuncture and moxibustion was used as indirectly. Aroma therapy was the third most frequent therapy after medicinal therapy and acupuncture therapy. Aroma therapy was mainly used as a vapor inhalation and massage. 16 of the answered that the most popular exercise therapy would be by providing exercise guidebook and 11 of them said writing exercise diary, and 5 of them said by using exercise machine in the hospital. Conclusions : The most popular oriental therapy in Korea was medicinal therapy and next following were aroma therapy and moxibustion, cupping which is one of the traditional therapies in Korean oriental medicine.

  • Objectives : Alopecia is a physical problem. also it makes psychological damage in childhood. Alopecia may be an obstruction in the social life. We tried Oriental medical cure on this disease. Method : We used herbal medicine, acupuncture, scalp acupuncture therapy to increase the root of hair and hair. Result : After treatments, patient's scalp has the root of hair and hair in some parts. But not all parts. Conclusion : we think that Oriental medical cure is effective on Alopecia. The more study is needed.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to suggest a way of weaning infant from the mother using an oriental medicine. Methods: Investigating the method of weaning infant from the mother using an oriental medicine, SikRyoChanYo. Results & Conclusions: There are two ways of weaning baby off from the mother using an oriental medicine. One way is a method of weaning ingredients analysis by oriental medicine. Another way is using an oriental medicinal. Weaning method using an oriental medicine can especially improve infant's health although we need more studies to prove this conclusion.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to find a way to apply current oriental pediatrics treatment guidelines based on a pediatric herb chapter in Dong-eui-bo-gam. Methods: We classified herbs based on the four properties, five flavors, attributive channel, a dosage form of the medicine, diagnosis, toxicity and character. Results & Conclusions: The result of this study is that there were lots of things that we have to learn - characteristics of common herbs in pediatrics and pediatric diseases and pathology. From this study, we also learn about changes of pediatric physiology and pathology. More related studies can be helpful for updating the current oriental pediatric guidelines.

  • Objectives A purpose of this study is to report a case study of a child with urolithiasis and urinary tract infections. Methods A four-year-old female had been taken Korean traditional medicine for two weeks, and clinical symptoms had been observed. Results Treating with Korean traditional medicine, symptoms of urolithiasis with urinary tract infections has been improved. Conclusions This study supports that Korean traditional medicine can be an effective means of treating internal medicine for urolithiasis with urinary tract infections, and further case studies are needed for more accurate results.

Three Cases Report of Molluscum Contagiosum Children treated by Gwakhyangjeonggisangamibang (곽향정기산가미방(藿香正氣散加味方)으로 치료한 소아 전염성 연속종 3례)

  • Objectives : Molluscum Contagiosum is a contagious disease most often seen in children. It is caused by molluscum contagiosum virus(MCV-1,2). The purpose of this study is to report three cases of Molluscum Contagiosum children treated by oriental medicine. Methods : The subjects are in regard to children diagnosed as Molluscum Contagiosum. We treated three children with herbal medicine(Gwakhyangjeonggisangamibang). Results : After treatment, the symptoms(papule on the whole body and pruritus) of Molluscum Contagiosum were improved. Two children of them were cured completely and the one child still appealed a little itching. But, the one child had atopic dermatitis, and suffered from itching primarily, so after treatment the itching sign decreased rather than before an attack of Molluscum Contagiosum. Conclusions : This study shows that oriental medicine can be an effective treatment for Molluscum Contagiosum. And the further study is needed with more cases and longer duration.
