Background or Objectives : The purpose of this study is to review oriental medicine journal clinical study in human that have been utilize Electroacupuncture in Korea. Methods : We investigated clinical studies in relation to electroacupuncture through 70 articles from OASIS excluded studies used rats and reviews. Results : Of 162 articles, totally 70 articles selected. There was differences ways of stimulation. In 70 articles, 19 type of instrument is used. About Stimulation time, 15 minutes form 40 percent, 20 minute form 37.1 percent, 30 minute form 11.4 percent. About stimulation intensity, there was 20 articles is unknown intensity. Only 21 articles present intensity by value. In frequency, 2 Hz frequency is used the most, 21 articles. Below 10 Hz frequency is used 54.2 % in 70 articles. There was 7 articles is unknown frequency. Conclusions : The result of this study could provide useful information of field of electroacupuncture is used in oriental medicine. Studies of electroacupuncture should be carried out in many different ways.

The purpose of this study is to report the clinical effects of modified Seogakjihwang-tang on a patient who had headache and memory disorder after traumatic brain injury, which were considered as the result of blood stasis. The patient had headache and memory disorder after traumatic brain injury and treated with modified Seogakjihwang-tang three times a day for 60days. As a result, the numerical rating scale and pain rating score of headache decreased and the scores of mini-mental state examination-Korea, the Korean version of Montreal cognitive assessment and the mini-memory test increased during treatment with modified Seogakjihwang-tang. Therefore, this case supports a possibility that modified Seogakjihwang-tang might be an effective treatment to patients with headache and memory disorder after traumatic brain injury.

Objective: To report the effect of Korean medicine treatment on a facial palsy patient with a cavernous malformation. Methods: The patient was treated with herbal medicine (Jodeung-san, 釣藤散) and acupuncture. The degree of treatment was measured by the Yanagihara-scale and by mobility of the face. Results: During treatment, the patient’s symptoms were relieved and facial movement was improved. Conclusion: This clinical case study showed the effect of herbal medicine and acupuncture on symptoms of facial palsy.

Purpose : To report the clinical condition and the effect of oriental medicine treatment on patients with uterine myoma. Methods : Our research was based on 41 cases of uterine myoma through medical records from November, 2003 to March, 2005. Research items were age of patients at first visit, BMI, past medical history, pregnancy history, preceding operation, constitution, accompanied symptoms, results after Oriental medicine treatment, treatment period. And we analyzed statistically about factors to affect results after treatment. Results : Average age of patients was 34.8 years old. After Oriental medicine treatment, the size of myoma of 9 patients(47.4%) lessened or disappeared, the VAS pain score during periods was decreased in 17 patients(72.7%). Conclusion : The result showed that Oriental medicine treatment can be effective for the management of uterine myoma without hysterectomy.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the image changes of four cases of Lumbar intervertebral disc Herniation after Oriental medicine Treatment Methods : We examined 4 patients with Lumbar intervertebral disc Herniation (HIVD of L-spine) who showed changes on MRI images before/after the treatment among HIVD of L-spine patients who visited Jaseng Hospital of Oriental Medicine from Jan. 2006 to Apr. 2007. Results & Conclusions : In this study, the first MRI examination of HIVD of L-spine patients was performed at the first visit and re-examination of MRI was done after the treatment. We assessed clinical symptoms by using Numerical rating scales(NRS). In each case, the size of the disc herniation was considerably reduced in MRI image. NRS was also reduced significantly.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of using Korean medical treatment for peripheral facial nerve palsy. Methods: We primarily treated the patient's peripheral facial nerve palsy during hospitalization (06/28/21~07/13/21) without any other steroids or antiviral drug treatments and additionally treated their spinal stenosis, using Korean medical treatments in both cases (herbal medicine, acupuncture, and herbal acupuncture therapy). The House-Brackmann grading system and Yanagihara's unweighted grading system were used to assess facial symptom changes, and the Numerical Rating Scale was used to evaluate the back pain caused by the spinal stenosis. Results: Following treatment, the patient's House-Brackmann and Numerical Rating Scale scores decreased, while their Yanagihara unweighted score improved. Conclusions: This study suggests that Korean medicine may be effective in the treatment of facial nerve palsy.

Objective : This is a case report of the patient diagnosed as the depressive episode mixed with organic depressive disorder. Method : We treat the patient with herbal medication and gave acupuncture treatment about 5 weeks, the symptom of the patient improved. The herbal medication and acupuncture treatment which we gave patient was based on Oriental medical diagnosis. Results : The patient had been taken the western medical treatment for 2 months, the symptom of the patient was not improved. But after the Oriental medical treatment, the patient is on the improving state. Conclusion : In the treatment of the depressive disorder which is mixed with organic depressive disorder, we found that the Herbal medication and Acupuncture based on correct 'Byonjung(辦證)' help the care of depressive episode which is mixed with organic depressive disorder.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of acupotomy in patients with frozen shoulder. Methods : From January 1st, 2011 to March 31st, 2012, five patients who were diagnosed as frozen shoulder and admitted to Daejeon Oriental Hospital. We have treated frozen shoulder with acupotomy combined with oriental medical treatments. Then the patients were asked Numeric rating scale(NRS) and neck disability index(NDI) before and after acupotomy, and global assesment after acupotomy. Results : There were significant decreased NRS and NDI in this study. ROM, global assesment also significantly imporved in this study. Conclusions : In this study, acupotomy have an effect on frozen shoulder.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to understand the characteristics of the musculoskeletal patients who visited the emergency room of an oriental medicine hospital and provide better first-aid medical service. Methods : We performed a retrospective study of 1,472 patients who visited the emergency room of an oriental medicine hospital, from June 1st, 2007 to May 31st, 2010. Results : Of 1,472 total patients, the male to female ratio was 1.06:1 and people in their 30s were the peak age group. The majority of patients visited the emergency room between 10:00 to 24:00(midnight). Most patients visited the emergency room from Saturday to Sunday. By monthly distribution, the patients increased slightly during February, April, September and October. The majority of patients visited the emergency room within 24hours of onset. The patients were categorized as follows : low back pain 64.81%, cervical pain 11.82%, ankle pain 10.67%. 27.51% of patients used stretcher cars when visiting the emergency room. The admission rate was 22.96%. Conclusions : Of the patients who visited the emergency room of an Oriental hospital, low back pain, cervical pain and ankle pain was the most frequent, in this order. By meticulously preparing for the continued increase in musculoskeletal treatment demand, we can further assist and speed the specialization and popularization of Oriental medical services.

Objectives: This study evaluated the effects of traditional Korean medicine treatment on a patient with asthma. Methods: A patient was treated with acupuncture, herbal medicine, and cupping. The effect of treatment was evaluated via the quality of life questionnaire for adult Korean asthmatics (QLQAKA), the visual analog scale (VAS), and night awakening frequency. Results: After treatment, improvements were observed. The total QLQAKA score increased from 36 to 50. Conclusions: This study observed that traditional Korean medicine treatments are effective in caring for a patient with asthma.
