  • Objective : This study began with a recognition of the increase in internal disorders caused by functional impairment of the Spleen-Stomach(脾胃) due to modern dietary culture and environment. Method : Way of studying is select and analysis sentences which is include 'Stomach-Yin(胃陰)', 'Stomach-Jin(胃津)', 'Spleen-Stomach-Yin(脾胃陰)', 'Stomach-Yang(胃陽)', 'Spleen-Stomach-Yang (脾胃陽)' in Imjeungjinamuian(臨證指南醫案), and organize relevant paper. Result & Conclusion : In the history of the Spleen-Stomach Theory(脾胃學說), the theoretical mainstream was focused on On-yang(溫養), which was supplemented with methods of sweeten-cool-moisturize(甘凉濡潤) and communication-descent(通降法) by Ye, Tianshi(葉天士). Ye, Tianshi followed the academic theory of Li, Dongyuan(李東垣), putting emphasis on Stomach-gi(胃氣), along with some unique developments of his own. He specifically argued that the Spleen and Stomach be treated separately, and while accepting the methods of Li Dong-yuan in Spleen treatment, asserted that the Stomach-Yin be treated with medicinals with sweet/plain and sweet/cool/moist(甘平與甘凉濡潤) characteristics, and Stomach-Yang be kept firmly, as to prevent obstruction and reflux, by means of medicinals that communicate the Yang softly(通陽柔劑). As a result, the Yin-Yang(陰陽), Dryness-Dampness(燥濕) and Cold-Heat(寒熱) balance of the Yin-Jang (陰臟), Spleen and the Yang-Bu(陽腑), Stomach, the Stomach-Yin and Stomach-Yang was achieved both theoretically and in treatment by means of both communication and supplementation, adding accuracy to clinical application of the Spleen-Stomach Theory.

  • Subject : The Imminent Labor Pulse(臨産 離經脈, extra-meridian pulse approaching labor) is one of many practical clinical knowledges, unique to Traditional Korean(Eastern) Medicine. Objective : This research explores the origin and change of perception on the subject throughout history, with objective to sort out practical knowledge applicable in the clinic of today. Also, it draws clinical meaning of pulse diagnosis according to the physiological theories, and suggests directions for future clinical researches. Method : First, the Imminent Labor Pulse was examined based on major publications such as the "Nanjing", "Maijing" and theories of major doctors. Second, this previous study was examined through clinical observation research. Third, further research was carried out on pulse theory according to the Traditional Medical theories. Fourth, their clinical practicality and points of further research were sorted out. These points need to be examined through additional clinical research. Conclusion : The following conclusions could be drawn from study of the Imminent Labor Pulse. From the Imminent Labor Pulse which indicated the beginning of the first period of labor in the "Maijing", it developed into trying to grasp the beginning of the second period of labor which is the actual time of labor, through "Zhubingyuanhoulun" and "Shizaizhifang". By Xueji, another pulse that could be felt on the middle finger of the mother had been discovered. The middle finger is where the Pericardium Meridian flows. The child's connection to the uterus becomes disconnected on the first period, but that with the Pericardium meridian which provides blood meridian to the Taichongmai of the child continues throughout labor until the umbilicus chord is cut. Therefore, this middle finger pulse could serve as showing the heart condition of the mother and child during labor. The time of its appearance and disappearance, and their correlation with the child's heartbeat need to be clinically examined.

  • Dunong(鈍翁), Yun-Ji had born by a concubine, and his dream didn't come true for the restraint of his social position, so he tried to train younger men. His writings still remain 4 volumes of "Dunongyeonsocheonjimundap" and "Dunongdongmongmundap(鈍翁童蒙問答)", which may be called its primer. "Dunongyeonsocheonjimundap" is written in question-and-answer form between Chal-Hye-Ja(察慧子) who has a meager knowledge and Sim-Gyeong-Ong(心耕翁) who search for the truth. It is progressed from the law of nature to human's cultivation of the mind so as to reconfirm the recognition of the unity between the heaven and human beings and lead the interpretation and practice of the metaphysical proposition. It is characterized by making use of metrical compositions to induce plain tone of argument. "Dunongdongmongmundap", whereas, uses archaic writings to describe natural science including astronomy to the beginners. Dunong's scholarship is characterized by these: He explained the metaphysical propositions by approaching usual things including oriental medicine practically; He comprised the Confucian concepts intensively to examine the Oriental studies closely; He groped for the outlooks on the world of taking serious view of human being or human body. And his medical thought is characterized by these: He attached importance to the theory of viscera and bowels based on yin-yang and five phase theory; He suggested the concrete yin-yang theory with a viewpoint of qi-blood theory; He considered the concept of 'six' only as mutual rooting of yin and yang and five visceras and six vowels, and denied the traditional six qi concepts; He explained the ghost theories of the metaphysics based on the yin-yang theory to analogize points of sameness between the oriental medicine and the metaphysics; He emphasized restore yang theory. Therefore, we can say that he regarded the human body as small heaven-earth and grafted the abstract propositions into the actuals so as to put the metaphysical propositions in practice.

  • They have brought many inconsistencies by making much of Wang Sukhwa's six-meridian-transmutation-theory based on Yeollon, Somun in Oriental traditional medicine. On this many medical men such like Hwa Ta have raised objections to that or insisted on its repeal. Wang Geungdang and Yang Soi posed the problem of editing tables of contents, Bang Yujip and Ga Geum etc. gave explanations of fields of six-meridian, Un Cheolcho and Jang Gyeongak etc. presented cause and direction of transmutation. And Gilik Dongdong insisted on its repeal. Sanghannon was the theory that was arranged various experiences of acute epidemic diseases. But they didn't recognize the differences between analogous epidemic diseases, regarded as the same things in Oriental traditional medicine, and this made many inconsistencies. This is the reason why many medical men raised objections to Wang Sukhwa's six-meridian-transmutation-theory.

  • In "Hwangjenaegyeong", pathogenesis is explained based on theory of Yin and Yang. According to the theory, all environments surrounding us, physical and emotional both, are related to outbreak of diseases. This also reflects one of the major theories in oriental medicine, in which a human body is perceived as a correspondence to natural environment. In this theory, the main idea is to understand changes in the universe based on mutual correlations from within. This kind of perspective is easily criticized from scientific point of view. Whereas modern science pursue analytic thinking and objective information, the theories above seem rather vague. However, from a different angle, through a characteristic perspective of oriental medicine, actual significance can be found in the theory. Many diseases result from one's intemperate living habits. Therefore, much prevention can be made by self-control. Also, once disease occurs, the essential step to treatment is to find cause in the living environment and regain balance. Natural cure will take its' course when living habits recover moderate pace and are back in harmony with the environment.

  • Geum-Won dynasty is the era which totalized the every medical attainments of before Song dynasty and appeared some medical practioners who found new medical theory based upon this, and is important time for various developments of the oriental medical theory. At this time of the era, the representative practioners are called the four noted physician of Geum-Won dynasty. Jang Won-So who influenced the formation of the theory of the four noted physcian of Geum-Won dynasty, originated new theory by joining the theory of "Nae-Gyung" with his own medical experience. The results can be summarized as follows after studying his life and idea of medicine. 1. Jang Won-So, courtesy name is Gyeol-Go, came from Yeog-Joo and it is unknown that when he was born and dead, but he lived in 11C. At 27, after failed in a Jin-Sa examination, he started medical study, and widely spreaded his medical art by healing the Yoo Wan-So's Sang-Han disease. 2. There are many Jang Won-So's writings, such as "Eui-Hag-Gye-Won" which is the condensation of his idea of medicine, "Jin-Joo-Nang" which is greatly contributed to development of Herbology, "Jang-Boo-Pyo-Bon-Han-Yeol-Heo-Sil-Yong-Yag-Sig" which is the sample of Jang-Boo-Byun-Jeung-Lon-Chi, and "Yag-Joo-Nan-Gyung" "Gyeol-Go-Ga-Jin" "Gyeol-Go-Joo-Sug-Hwa-Mag-Gyeol" "Gyeol-Go-Bon-Cho" "San-Yog-Bo-Sang-Bang" which are known do not existing. 3. Jang Won-So's study about Jang-Boo-Byun-Jeung was influenced by "Nae-Gyung" "Jung-Jang-Gyung" "So-A-Yag-Jeung-Jig-Gyeol" etc. and outline by Han-Yeol-Heo-Sil and the change and prognosis of the state of disease can be decided by Saeng-Sa-Yeog-Soon, so he contribute to development of lang-Boo-Byun-Jeung-Lon-Chi of posterity. 4. Jang Won-So succeeded and develope the theory of the herbs of Oh-Jang-Go-Yog-Bo-Sa and about Ki-Mi-Seung-Gang-Boo-Chim etc. appeared on "Nae-Gyung", especially invented such as Kwi-Gyung-Lon, In-Gyeung-Bo-Sa-Seol, Jang Boo-Pyo-Bon-Yag-Sig and he enriched the content of pharmacological theory, so he motivated various development of herbalogical theory. 5. Jang Won-So's idea of On-Yang-Bi-Wi directly influence Lee Go's assertion of Bi-Wi-Lon, idea of Go-Geum-I-Gue-Seol presented theological basis of posterior medical practioners formation of prescription, so the way of drug usage greatly developed. 6. Jang Won-So's theory of the lang-Boo-Byun-Jeung and herbology directly influenced to Lee Go, Wang Ho-Go, Na Chen-Ik, lang Byeok etc. so he became the father of Yeog-Soo class and indirectly influenced to Seol Gi, Jo Hen-Ga, lang Gae-Bin, Lee Jung-Jae etc. of Myeng dynasty, so the On-Bo class has been formed. Like this, because, his idea of medicine developed at various aspect and greatly influenced to posterity, Lee Si-Jin said "Since the emergency of "Nae-Gyung", Jang Won-So is the only man who greatly enhance medical principle.", so it is clear that this is not unfounded expression at all.

  • ${\ulcorner}$Classified Collection of Medical Prescriptions${\lrcorner}$(${\ulcorner}$醫方類聚${\lrcorner}$ is a medical book which classifies and edits the existing books. First of all, it is not until finishing the study of reference books that we can study the ${\ulcorner}$Classified Collection of Medical Prescriptions${\lrcorner}$ in earnest. We did not take traditional non-systematic methods to study the reference books of ${\ulcorner}$Classified Collection of Medical Prescriptions${\lrcorner}$ systematically. We investigated the title of 'reference book's name' as a reference book and did not investigate re-reference books. The number of reference books are one hundred forty-two volumes. Most of the reference books are medical books; some books are about Taoism and Buddhism. The title of the reference books are given a name by various methods. But these methods have a lot of problems. First, the same title book misapply an alias, the original text name and an abbreviated name. Second, a chapter name misapplies reference books. Third, reference books misapplies a chapter name. Forth, the writer and book name misapplies reference books and so on. From quotation collection about ${\ulcorner}$Classified Collection of Medical Prescriptions${\lrcorner}$'s characteristic point fellows below in three kinds. First, it emphasizes medical therapy. Second, most of Song(宋) period, Geum Yuan(金 元) period of China reference books take place in here. During this period it had accepted studying theory from clinical accumulation and the result of re-clinical studies reception based on theory research, and also had accepted Geum Yuan's expansive theory. Third, by adding technical books of a professional assortment, it has raised its profession of division.

  • This article looks into Lee-Gyujun(李圭晙)'s life course, Confucian thoughts, and philosophical ideas on the Medicine of Boosting Yang(陽), by thoroughly translating and analyzing selectively the second half of Lee-Gyujun(李圭晙)'s "Seokgoksango(石谷散稿)". Translating his works is said to be necessary to fully understand the significance of the boosting-yang theory[扶陽論] in the historical landscape of Korean medicine, not to mention comprehension of the medical contents itself. Through this translation and analysis, first, it is found that Lee-Gyujun(李圭晙) had visited Seo-Changyu(徐贊奎) for over 10 years and had great influence on qi(氣) monism. Second, within the Gihohakpa(畿湖學派), Lee-Gyujun was much closer to Horon(湖論) rather than Nanron(洛論). Third, during his days, he became well known across the peninsula through his medical fame. Last, he wrote down the unknown manufacturing technique of dried ginger[乾薑].
