Clinical Study for the One Case that Diagnosed Polycystic Ovarian Disease (다낭성 난소증후군 치험 1례)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of oriental treatments for PCOD(Polycystic Ovarian Disease) patient with amenorrhoea. Methods: A 24 years old women, who diagnosed PCOD(Polycystic Ovarian Disease), was enrolled in this study. She received oriental treatments such as herbal medicine, acupuncture for 5 months. And we proceeded to checkup female hormone regularly, such as Estrogen, Progesteron, LH, FSH, Prolactin, testosterone. We observed the menstruation period and figure out LH/FSH ratio. Results: 1. We treated PCOD patient with oriental herbal medicine(Changbudodamtang) and acupuncture. 2. PCOD patient restart menstruation regularly. 3. PCOD patient's LH/FSH ratio decreased. 4. PCOD patient's testosterone was within normal limit. Conclusion: 1. We treated PCOD patient with oriental herbal medicine(Changbudodamtang) and acupuncture, and then PCOD patient restart menstruation regularly. 2. We treated PCOD patient with oriental herbal medicine(Changbudodamtang) and acupuncture, and then we observed that LH/FSH ratio decreased.

  • The environment surrounding oriental medical' doctors made change in accordance with changes of the society to make change of the doctors' ethics. In particular, some of practitioners made light of patients to let people distrust all of the medical professions. To improve such a situation, oriental medical doctors' ethics should be examined historically and philosophically. This study examined the literatures of Oriental medicine on oriental medical doctors' ethics to investigate difference of medical ethics between the Western medicine and the Oriental medicine and to suggest a way promoting oriental medical doctors' ethical consciousness. The ethics of the literatures of Oriental medicine might be classified into the two, in other words, 'medical technology' and 'mental attitude'. 'Medical technology' laid emphasis upon not only a lot of researches on Oriental medicine but also doing best to give patients medical treatment carefully. 'Mental attitude' laid emphasis upon keeping 'humanity(仁心)' thinking much of patients not to pursue excessive profits. To recover ethical consciousness, not only 'reinforced school education' but also 'reinforced legal regulation' was required. And, oriental medical doctors, nongovernmental organizations, common people and other social members were demanded to make efforts together to elevate oriental medical doctors' ethical consciousness.

  • Oriental Medicine Based Psychotherapy is consisted of 8 sessions which are available for various kinds of patients(mood disorders, somatoform disorders, anxiety disorders, Hwabyung, adjustment disorders etc.). Through 8 sessions, patients were educated on the relationship of mind and body which is the basic concept of oriental medicine and also received several training such as Progressive Muscle Relaxation, Autogenic Training, Breathing Training, Meditation, Qi-training. After these several training they get to think of their problems and inner conflict with people and get some insight about themselves and others, it can help handling their problems. This case report is about the patient with lots of somatic complains through the whole body, who got better after treatment by oriental medicine based psychotherapy added on herbal medicine and acupuncture.

  • This study report the good reslut for chronic Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura(ITP) patient with Herbal medication treatment and Counseling therapy. The case was a 56 years old female who worried about small matters too much. This patient treated in western medicine, However, didn't see any improvement. So, the patient admitted in our hospital. We diagnosied this patient as 'The Defiency of the Spleen energy', caused by too much thinking and concern. Herbal medication(Nokyonggunbitang)and psychotherapy applied to this patient for hospitalized 22 days. The result showed that blood platelet increased at discharged moment(37,000 / ${\mu}{\ell}$) compared with the admission time(19,000 / ${\mu}{\ell}$). The present result indicated that Herbal medication treatment and psychotherapy may play a role elevate and maintain the number of blood platelet.

  • Objectives : This study was performed to develop a standard instrument of oriental medical evaluation for dementia. Methods: The advisor committee on this study was organized by 17 neuropsychiatry professors of oriental medical colleges. The items and structure of the instrument were based on review of published literature. We took consultation twice from the advisor committee and we also took additional advices bye-mail. Results: We discriminated between bian-zheng and su-zheng from the answers of the advisor committee. We got the mean weight of each symptom and sign from the answers of the advisor committee. We got the final weight from the combination of the ratio of bian-zheng to the number of all answers of the advisor committee and mean weight. Conclusions : The instrument of oriental medical evaluation for dementia was developed through experts' discussion. If the validity and reliability of this instrument is confirmed through additional clinical trial. the instrument of oriental medical evaluation for dementia is expected to be applied to the subsequent research.

Preliminary Study for Development of System for Oriental Nurse-specialist (한방전문간호사제도를 위한 예비조사)

  • This study was conducted to examine the nurses' role in Oriental medical hospital and the necessity of Oriental medical nursing system. Data were collected from 194 nurses in 14 Oriental medical hospitals located in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Kwangju, Kangwon Province, Kyungbuk Province from July 1, 2000 to September 10, 2000. The results of this study are summarized as follows. 1. In nurse's level of knowledge of acupuncture point in current Oriental nursing practice, 28.4% of the respondents did not know acupuncture points at all, while 30.9% knew them a little. 40.7% of them did not almost know them. 2. According to nurses' role in Oriental medical hospital, they did a lot of duty for measurement of vitality, medical record, Dr. notifying, communication with medical team and related departments, and observation of patients' conditions. They did a little duty for handling Oriental medical practice. 3. As the subject of curriculum for Oriental medical nursing, 52.1% chose training course for Oriental medical nursing, while 25.8% chose inclusion of the curriculum in the school of nursing. 39.2% replied that they would take the training course for Oriental medical nursing, while 3.6% answered that they would not take it. 68.6% of them thought that Oriental medical nursing system should be introduced, while 4.1% objected to introducing the system. The nurses in Oriental medical hospitals are working with many problems because of their role confusion and low level of knowledge in Oriental medicine. Therefore, systematic curriculum and research related to Oriental medical nursing are necessary. Oriental medical nursing system must be introduced in order to make nurses have professional knowledge and skill in Oriental medicine. The nurses then can provide services of good quality for the patients.

A Case of Gouty Arthritis Patient Treated with Collaborative Oriental and Western Medicine with Acute Inflammation and Liver Injury

  • Objectives : To examine the effects of the collaborative Oriental and Western medicine, we treated a gouty arthritis patient with acute inflammation and liver injury with a combination of Oriental and Western treatments. Methods : Acupuncture, Bangphungtongsung-San(Fangfengtongsheng-san)', 'Kangwhaljetong-Um(Qianghuochutong-yin)', and 'Sosiho-Tang(Xiaochaihu-tang) were offered to an acute gouty arthritis patient with NSAIDs, Corticosteroids and allopurinol. Laboratory data were observed for the duration of hospital days. Results : In spite of Oriental treatments, NSAIDs administration caused liver injury, but continuous Oriental treatments with small amount of Corticosteroids and allopurinol brought recovery of liver function and gouty arthritis. Confusion : Collaborative treatments of Oriental and Western medicine are better than independent Western treatment for gouty arthritis with acute inflammation and liver injury. Further studies will be required to ascertain the collaborative treatment with Oriental and Western medicine for gouty arthritis and other diseases.

  • Purpose : This study was designed to investigate about symptoms named 'San(疝)', because almost no paper associated with San in Korea since the 1990s. Methods : Watch an overview of San with the Tonguibogam based. Results : In the Tonguibogam. according to the Zhang Ja-wha's classification. symptoms named 'San(疝)' are classified into seven kinds. As discussed in the Nephrology of Oriental Medicine, part of the Andrology, symptoms named 'San(疝)' are classified into three kinds. (1) San associated with reproductive organs. (2) San associated with pain (3) San associated with protrusion. The symptoms of San usually appears in the external genitalia and lower abdomen in both sexes can. The symptoms are called 'San(疝)' to the male and 'Ga' to the female. In the modern Obstetrics and Gynecology of Oriental Medicine. women's 'San' involves both 'San(疝)' and 'Ga'. San includes genital protrusion, but not includes vaginal hemia. It also includes genital edema, genital pruritus, genital herpes and bleeding after vaginal sex. San can be raised by many causes. The causes are damages by Coldness(傷寒), Damp-heat(濕熱), Serious distress(思慮過度) and Excessive sexual activity(房勞過多). The treatment for this symptoms is elimination of Dameum(痰飮). Jeokchwi(積聚) and Blood stasis(瘀血). Conclusion : The symptoms of San usually appears in the external genitalia and lower abdomen in both sexes can. The symptoms are called 'San(疝)' to the male and 'Ga' to the female.

  • This research surveyed oriental medicine therapies currently used in oriental medicine circles by referring to oriental medicine books-based existing traditional authentic therapies, as well as market-sold supplementary therapy-related ordinary health books and Internet information, and supplementary therapy-related dissertations, reviewed the fundamental operating significance of these therapies, and pursued their clinical operating measures based on their clinical information as follows Various therapies currently used in oriental medicine circles are categorized into authentic therapies and supplementary therapies in oriental medicine. Authentic therapies in Oriental medicine are based on bodily self-vitality abilities, pursue positive methods of treating diseases, and include medication therapies, acupuncture therapies, and external therapies. Supplementary therapies in oriental medicine are based on bodily self-vitality abilities, pursue indirect methods of treating diseases, and consist of lifestyle therapy and body management therapy. Authentic and supplementary therapies in Oriental medicine are used either separately or together according to clinical treatment methods. In treating diseases, clinical operating methods exclusively based on traditional authentic therapies and supplementary therapies include Donguibogam (anthology of ancient oriental medicine), Uihakipmun (introduction to medicine), Somun school, and bodily acupuncture according to diagnoses of symptoms, as well as sasangbang (prescription based on four types of bodily constitution), myeongribang prescription, hyeongsangbang prescription, and bodily constitution-based acupuncture according to diagnoses of bodily constitutions. In clinical operation of Oriental medicine, supplementary therapies are parity duplicated dy alternative medicine. However, given patients' needs and clinical practicality, Oriental medicine circles should establish a system based on the fundamental viewpoint of Oriental medicine theories, and corresponding policies should also be researched.

Clinical Case Report of a Patient with Hyperventilation Syndrome Developed after Traffic Accident (교통사고 후 발생한 과호흡증후군에 대한 증례 보고)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical application of oriental medical treatment to a patient with hypeventilation syndrome developed after traffic accident. Hypeventilation syndrome is a kind of psychosomatic disorder. Typical complaints are tachypnea, palpitation, paresthesia, muscle spasm and tetany. We treated the patient with herbal medication, physical therapy, acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, etc. In acute hyperventilation attack, we used bloodletting therapy(+宣, shihhsuan), cupping therapy(B40, B57), emergency treatment with paper bag rebreathing and herbal medication in order to tranquilize. After 2 months of oriental medical treatment, we obtained good improvement in patient's state. This results suggest that oriental medical treatment has the positive effects on a patient with hyperventilation syndrome.
