Assessing Knowledge Structures for Public Research Institutes

  • This study uses a network approach to investigate the structural characteristics of sub-organizations within public research institutes in order to obtain their implications for organizational structures. We construct a network based on research similarities between sub-organizations because sub-organizations generally build their own research portfolios. We examine how sub-units are organized based on their structural features. The structural features are compared between three public research institutes in different countries: the Korean the Government-funded Research Institutes (GRIs), the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft in Germany, and the National Laboratories (NLs) in the United States. The structural comparison helps to identify organizational characteristics and to differentiate between them. We found little common ground in the research areas between the GRIs because individual sub-organizations have distinct research portfolios. Therefore, the organizational hierarchy of research in the GRIs is less matured than it is in other public research institutes. This study suggests that the GRIs need to establish integrated strategies in order to strengthen the common knowledge base.

  • 본 연구는 규모가 작고 역동적인 벤처기업의 성장에 영향을 줄 수 있는 요인들 중에서 기업의 전략적 행동이나 경영자의 경영 역량과 관련된 제품 전략과 CEO(최고경영자) 특성의 효과를 실증적으로 분석하였다. 벤처기업의 표본을 이용하여 FGLS 추정법에 기반한 회귀분석의 결과에 따르면, 제품 전략과 CEO 특성은 기업 성장에 유의한 영향을 주며 추가적인 설명력을 가진다. 일반적으로 제품의 다양화와 마케팅을 강조할수록, 변화혁신을 완화할수록 성장률이 높았다. 그리고 CEO가 경영지배력을 가진 창업자가 아니거나, 현재 사업관련 분야에서 실무경험이 많을수록 성장률이 높았다. 또한, 연구개발 위주 업무경력보다 일반경영 중심의 업무경력을 가진 CEO가 관리하는 기업이 성장률이 더 높았다. 제품 전략과 CEO 특성이 벤처기업의 성장에 미치는 이런 효과들은 조직수명주기 단계에 따라서 달라졌다. 창업기 및 초기 성장기에 있는 기업에서 제품의 마케팅 강조 전략과 CEO의 일반경영 중심 업무경력이 기업 성장에 미치는 긍정적 효과가 상대적으로 강화된 반면, 성숙기 및 정체기에 있는 기업에서 이런 제품 전략과 CEO 특성이 기업 성장에 미치는 효과가 부정적이거나 유의하지 않았다.

지식관리시스템의 수직적 확산과 수평적 확산에 관한 실증적 연구 (The Factors Affecting Breadth and Depth of Diffusion for Knowledge Management Systems)

  • This study primarily aims at identifying what factors significantly affect the diffusion of knowledge management systems(KMS) and finding out how these identified factors can be effectively managed, especially for Korean companies. The research model is derived based on previous researches on innovation diffusion, information systems implementation, and KMS. The model is used to examine the role of determinants in influencing the extent to which KMS is diffused within organizations. Independent variables of this research are composed of technical characteristics, organizational characteristics and environmental characteristics. 'Breadth of diffusion' and 'depth of diffusion' concept are used to measure the extent of KMS diffusion which is the dependent variable of this model. The 101 companies of total 1,000 samples responded to the survey. To analyze tile results of this empirical study, we performed the multiple regression analysis. As a result, it was shown that the relative advantage, complexity, information system maturity, size, top management support, champion, competitive pressure have influences on both the breadth and the depth diffusions. On the other hand, the organizational culture, valuation and compensation, and uncertainty of environmental factors were not verified to be significant. This empirical study will provide Korean companies with insights into effective ways to diffuse the KMS and succeed in business competition.

A Study on the Entrepreneurship and Marketing Activity in Distribution & Service

  • Purpose - This research identified the factors to be considered when CEOs establish small companies and improve their businesses by analyzing the effects of their entrepreneurship and marketing activities on the business performance of small companies and suggested measures to utilize them strategically. Research design, data, and methodology - The research conducted a survey for companies located in Busan, and Gyeongnam area in Korea. To verify the model and hypothesis mentioned above, relevant items were allocated to each variable. Results - the research found that the innovation of entrepreneurship negatively affects formalization and centralization along with the propensity for risk-taking which negatively affects all the characteristics of an organization's structure. It was also found that the pro-activeness which was rejected in the selection and verification of hypothesis is the CEOs characteristics which positively affect all of the organization type are contrary to the initial hypothesis. Conclusions - The results of these efforts will positively contribute toward developing a start-up strategy helpful for small companies CEOs, to change the business environment proactively, to operate their organization efficiently and to develop market-oriented marketing activities and objectives. This research found the role of market-oriented characteristics demanded by the CEO to overcome organizational structure, business innovation and bad business situations.

병원근로자의 변화지향 조직시민행동 결정요인 : 직무만족, 조직몰입의 매개효과 검증 (Determinants of Change-Oriented Organizational Citizenship Behavior of Hospital Employees : Estimating the Mediating Effects of Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment)

  • Purposes: This study aims to investigate the determinants of change-oriented organizational citizenship behavior(CO-OCB) of hospital employees and test the mediating effect of the job satisfaction and organizational commitment on the CO-OCB. Methods: Data were collected from the self-administered questionnaire survey for hospital employees of ten hospitals located in five regions, including Seoul. Out of 1,100 questionnaires which were distributed through the administrative routes, a total of 617 copies were returned(response rate 56.1%) and analyzed by frequency analysis, t-tests, correlation analysis, multiple regression, and path analysis using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. Findings: The study results revealed that the explanatory power(56.4%) of the model was most significantly increased by the variables of psychological attributes(R2-change 33,5%). Also, the variables of self-efficacy, followed by hope, the organizational climate for innovation, the psychological safety climate, team-member exchange, and leader-member exchange were found to have positive total effects on CO-OCB, through the mediating variables of job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Practical Implications: The study results imply that, in order to improve the CO-OCB of hospital employees, the administrators have to take the integrated approach considering the various domains of factors including the psychological attributes, job characteristics, interpersonal relations, and organizational climate simultaneously.

스마트워크 도입 요인과 사용자 혁신저항 및 이직의도 간의 관계에 대한 연구: 조직통제 조절효과를 중심으로 (A Study on the Relationship between Smart Work Adoption Factors, User Innovation Resistance, and Turnover Intention: Focused on the Moderating Effect of Organizational Control)

  • 최근 비대면 사회로의 전환으로 많은 조직이 빠르게 스마트워크 환경을 조성하고 있다. 스마트워크의 도입은 단순히 ICT 시스템 또는 솔루션 도입이 아닌 기술적 진보에 맞춰 일하는 방식이나 직무 형태의 다양한 변화를 초래한다. 그러나 스마트워크 관련 기존 연구들은 기술수용관점에서 스마트워크 도입으로 생산성 및 효율성이 향상된다는 연구가 대부분으로 기업의 ICT 시스템이 도입되었을 때 구성원들이 느끼는 혁신저항의 문제와 조직의 관리 통제에 대한 현실적인 문제에 대한 논의는 부족하다. 본 연구는 스마트워크 도입에 대한 혁신요인과 혁신저항에서 구성원들에 대한 조직통제 방법의 조절효과를 실증분석하고 혁신저항의 관점에서 조직의 혁신이 들어왔을 때 구성원들이 저항하는 구조적인 특징을 이직의도로 확장하여 프로세스에 대한 개념적 모델과 가설을 제안하였다. 실증 분석 결과, 스마트워크 도입 관련 ICT 기술의 기업 내부 도입에 대하여 상대적 이점, 자기효능감의 수준이 높을수록 혁신저항의 수준이 낮아지고, 이용복잡성이 높을수록 혁신저항의 수준이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 사용자들의 행동통제를 하였을 때 혁신저항이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 사례 분석을 통해 향후 스마트워크 도입에 대한 고려 사항을 제시하여 신규 도입을 위한 경영개선에 기여하는 바를 제공하고자 한다.

기업의 웹 사이트 채택 시기에 영향을 미치는 요인 - 혁신확산이론 관점에서 - (Factors Influencing Adoption of Corporate Web Site Over Time : Innovation Diffusion Theory Perspective)

  • Recently, organizations intend to adopt new information technology for acquiring relative advantages in competitive business environment. Especially, many companies have paid attention to web-based electronic commerce. But research in this area has largely been performed to the operational and technical aspects of web site. Also the World Wide Web(web) has become one of the most widely used information technologies, but research indicates that there are many firm that are still considering whether to establish a web presence. This study examines factors influencing adoption of corporate web site over time. To examine why companies adopt web site, this study regards web site as an innovation and finds out these reason through Innovation Diffusion Theory. Independent variables of this research are composed of innovation characteristics, organizational characteristics and environmental characteristics. By the result of logistic regression analysis, we find that there are significant differences between early adopters and late adopters of web site for three adoption factors : top management support, organization size, environmental uncertainty. These findings confirm the theoretical frame for adoption of corporate web site. Also this study will provide good guidelines to the companies and the vendors in shaping the strategies of IT adoption and IT diffusion respectively.

Using Analytic Network Process to Construct Evaluation Indicators of Knowledge Sharing Effectiveness in Taiwan's High-tech Industries

  • High-tech industry has been the principal economic source for Taiwan in recent years. The characteristics of high-tech industries in Taiwan are changeable product markets, short product life cycles and high company attrition rate. In the globalization trend, the high-tech industry has gradually increased corporate competitiveness and reached the goal of sustainable operations through knowledge management, knowledge sharing and new product research and development. Firms have aggressively strengthened and integrated their internal and external resources and enhanced knowledge sharing to increase industry operational performance. Effectively strengthening the knowledge management operation and performance evaluation of knowledge sharing in Taiwan's high-tech industry has become a critical issue. In the selection of knowledge sharing Key Performance Indicators (KPI), this research divided the knowledge sharing indicators into representative strategic indicators such as organizational knowledge learning, organizational knowledge resources, organizational information capacity and organizational knowledge performance through screening using Factor Analysis. The characteristics of the constructs were interdependent. This research calculated and adjusted the correlation among the key performance knowledge sharing indicators using ANP and determined the relative weight of knowledge sharing.

개인의 정보기술 수용격차 요인에 대한 탐색적 연구 (An Exploratory Study on the Factors of Assimilation Gap in Information Technology at the Individual Level)

  • This study aims to explore factors of Assimilation Gap(AG) which is proposed and illustrated by Fichman and Kemerer(1997). AG is defined as the time delay between adoption and deployment and mainly studied at the organizational level. This study derives the factor affecting AG through a review of technology acceptance models and agency theory. The research model consists of three groups of independent variables(IT knowledge burden, Individual characteristics, and organization characteristics) and a moderator, which is goal incongruence. Using multiple regression analyses, four groups of hypotheses are tested with data of 221 knowledge workers from various organizations through e-mail survey. The result shows that radicalness(a dimension of knowledge burden), personal innovativeness, self-efficacy, and organizational support are statistically significant factors while complexity, experience, and perceived critical mass are not supported. The moderator effects of goal incongruence are found in personal innovativeness and organizational support. The results of this study demonstrate that agency theory is a useful perspective to deal with AG, especially in radical innovation. In addition, IT practitioners should consider not only user training but also incentives and possible organizational controls in implementing a new information technology.

코로나19로 인한 재택근무가 사회적 소외감 및 조직몰입에 미치는 영향 : LMX의 조절효과 및 직무만족의 매개효과 (Influence of Telecommuting due to Covid-19 on Psychological State : Moderating Effect of LMX and Mediating Effect of Job Satisfaction)

  • 본 연구는 코로나19로 인한 재택근무가 사회적 소외감에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 LMX(Leader Member Exchange)의 조절 효과를 확인하고자 하였으며, 사회적 소외감이 직무만족과 조직몰입에 순차적으로 영향을 미치는 지를 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여, 재택근무를 경험한 317명의 직장인을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였고, SPSS 23과 Process Macro를 통하여 결과를 분석하였다. 연구를 통해 살펴본 결과 재택근무의 횟수는 사회적 소외감에 유의미한 영향을 미치며 그 과정에서 LMX의 조절 효과를 확인하였다. 또한, 사회적 소외감의 조직 몰입에 대한 영향과 이러한 관계에 대한 직무만족의 매개효과를 확인하였다. 이러한 연구 결과들을 바탕으로 연구의 시사점, 재택근무의 효과성을 높이기 위한 제언 및 연구의 한계점 등을 제시하였다.
