Exploitation of renewable energies is on the increase to mitigate the reliance on fossil fuels and other natural gases with rocketing prices currently due to the depletion of their reserves not to mention their diverse consequences on the environment. Divergently, there are lots of industries "throwing" heat at higher temperatures as by products into the environment. This waste heat can be recovered through organic Rankine systems and converted to electrical energy with a waste heat recovery organic Rankine cycle system (WHR-ORC). This study uses the annual average condenser effluent from Namhae power plant as heat source and surface seawater as cooling source to analyze a waste heat recovery organic Rankine cycle using the Aspen HYSYS simulation software package. Hydrocarbon mixtures are employed as working fluid and varied in a ratio of 9:1. Results indicate that Pentane/Isobutane (90/10) mixture is the favorable working fluid for optimizing the waste heat recovery organic Rankine cycle at the set simulation conditions.
Batch slurry experiments were conducted to develop cement/slag/Fe(II) system that could treat hazardous liquid wastes containing halogenated organic solvents. Portland cement in combination with Fe(II) was reported to reductively dechlorinate chlorinated organics in a modified solidification/stabilization process. TCE (trichloroethylene) was used a model halogenated organic solvent. The objectives of this study were to assess the feasibility of using cement and steel converter slag amended with Fe(II) as a low cost abiotic reductive dechlorination and to investigate the kinetics of TCE dechlorination over a wide range of TCE concentration. From the result of screening experiments, cement/slag/Fe(II) system was identified as a potentially effective system to treat halogenated organic solvent. Kinetic studies were carried out to further investigate degradation reaction of TCE NAPL (Non Aqueous Phase Liquids) in cement/slag/Fe(II) systems by using batch slurry reactors. Degradation rate of TCE solution in this system can be explained by pseudo-first-order rate law because the prediction with the rate law is in good agreement with the observed data.

In this work, poly(diallyldimethylammoniumchloride) (PDDAC) and meso-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin were considered to produce the self-assembly fabrication films. This method is based on the layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition produced by the electrostatic attraction between positively charged PDDAC and negatively charged porphyrin ions. The result of multilayer fabrication was discussed with the level of color strength (K/S). K/S spectra of the fabricated multilayer films showed gradual increase behaviors. In addition, the color photo images of the fabricated multilayer films showed that PDDAC and porphyrin were successfully attracted by electrostatic self-assembly forces.
A test unit for Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power generation system was developed and experimentally reviewed the performance of the ORC system. Two different organic fluids (R-245fa & Novec 649) were tested as working fluids for the system. System behavior was measured and analyzed along with the variables, such as temperature, pressure, rpm and shaft power. It is one of the findings that Novec 649 fluid is to be less pressurized than R-245fa in order to up to the heat source (boiler) capacity, that limits the experiment as high as 2 kW in shaft power.
Rhodamine dyes have been studied in various scientific areas due to their excellent photophysical properties. In particular, these rhodamine dyes are one of the most famous fluorophores as signal unit in chemosensor study. This is related to spirolactam ring system in rhodamine dyes. When the spirolactam ring is closed, there is nonfluorescence and colorless. Whereas, ring-opening of the corresponding spirolactam induces strong fluorescence and color. These absorption and emission changes are related to structural changes as well as electron energy potential levels such as HOMO and LUMO values. In this study, two different structures of rhodamine 6G hydrazide depending on the spirolactam ring system were investigated using absorption measurement, electrochemical measurement and computational calculations.
Recently proposed organic flash cycle (OFC) was shown to potentially improve power generation using low grade heat source. In this paper, a thermodynamic performance is carried out for a modified OFC employed double expansions. Effects of the selection of working fluid and the important system parameters such as the temperatures in flash evaporators on the system performance were extensively investigated. Results showed that the system performances are strongly influenced with the system parameters and selection of the working fluid, and the power generation can be increased compared to the basic OFC.
Recently, nanostructure and the molecular orientation of organic thin films have been largely paid attention due to its importance in organic electronics such as organic thin film transistors (OTFTs), organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), and organic photovoltaics (OPVs). Among various methods, the diffraction and scattering techniques based on synchrotron x-rays have shown powerful results in organic thin film systems. In this work, we introduce the in-situ annealing system installed at PLS-II (Pohang Light Source II) for organic thin films by simultaneously conducting various x-ray scattering measurements of x-ray reflectivity, conventional x-ray scattering, grazing incidence wide angle x-ray scattering (GI-WAXS) and so on. Using the in-situ measurement, we could obtain real time variation of nanostructure as well as molecular orientation during thermal annealing in metal-phthalocyanine thin films. The variation of surface and interface also could be simultaneously investigated by the x-ray reflectivity measurement.
This study is to examine and classify the phasic characteristics of organic thoughts in modern architecture. Organic architects have applied organic thoughts to solutions for the problems of each period in architecture since modern times. As results of this study, the architecture of organic thoughts from 1850s to 1940s could be divided into two phases. The phasic characteristics of the first phase from 1850s to 1910s was physical resemblance in real or fantastic appearance that the work of art and architecture should imitate organic forms from the view of solid empiricism. The phasic characteristics of the second phase from 1920s to 1940s was organic growth that the form appropriate to a work of art and architecture should grow from the nature of the problem itself as a system in nature grows from the view of pragmatism and was organic unity that the form and function or the form and content of a work of art should be inseparably integrated as the form in nature should grow out of the inner nature of the thing and be an expression of that inner nature from the view of expressive theory.
An organic apple (Malus ${\times}$ domestics Borkh.) orchard was established to study the interaction effects of ground cover management systems (GMS) and nutrient sources (NS) on soil and tree nutrient status and tree growth. Trees received one of four GMS: 1) green compost (GC), 2) wood chips (WC), 3) shredded paper (SP), and 4) mow-and-blow (MB). Across all GMS, one of three NS was applied: A) a commercial organic fertilizer (CF), B) poultry litter (PL), and C) control (NF). Overall, GMS had greater effects on the variables than did NS. GC mulch supplied greater nutrients, followed by WC, SP, and MB mulches. SP trees had lower foliar [N] in the first two years than the GC and WC trees. GC-and WC-treated trees had larger trunk cross sectional area than the SP and MB trees.
