The primary objective of this study was to determine the relationship between fruit quality characteristics and pithiness fruit occurrence for confirming occurrence factors of pithiness tissues in 'Niitaka' pears ($Pyrus$$pyrifolia$ Nakai). Fruits were harvested 4 times in 1 week intervals from 160 days after full bloom (DAFB) to 181 DAFB. Harvested fruits were separated with the specific gravity by Archimedes laws. Also, with specific gravity level in pear fruit, sugar content, acidity, and texture profile analysis (TPA) were investigated. Final verifiability of pithiness fruit was approved by eye observation at 90 days after storage. Also, in ASS (Alcohol Soluble Solid) and AIS (Alcohol Insoluble Solid), calcium contents were investigated. Although the differences in sugar and organic acid content were not significant in fruits divided by gravity, flesh hardness was depressed in fruits that showed low gravity. These results were more conspicuous in late harvested fruits (at 174 and 181days after full bloom) which showed low gravity, representing less content of AIS content and calcium in ASS and AIS when compared with early harvest fruits. Fruits of lower gravity below 1.0 measured with dipping induced the progression of pithiness symptom up to 76%. Consequently, harvest timing is a more concise factor in pithiness fruit occurrence although those symptom also affected by storage condition. Furthermore, the cause of pithiness fruit occurrence by late harvest is due to the lower cell wall binding calcium.

The relationship between bacteria and anaerobic archaea, sludge yield coefficient and nitrogen removal rate were investigated in intermittent aeration systems(I/A) with added archaea, I/A and conventional activated sludge system. As the archaea solution was added to the I/A reactor, organic removal rate as well as nitrogen removal rate increased. Also, sludge production rate in I/A system added the archaea was maintained lower than other systems because sludge yield coefficient was decreased due to the role of anaerobic archaea such as anaerobic degradation of organics. The experimental data supported the possibility of symbiotic activated sludge system with anaerobic archaea under intermittent aeration, leading to the enhanced nitrogen removal. Crucial results to be presented are: 1) specific oxygen utilization rate(SOUR) of the I/A-arch system was $2.9\;mg-O_2/(g-VSS{\cdot}min)$. SOUR and nitrification rate of the sludge from the I/A-arch system was higher than those from the I/A and A/S reactors. 2) Removal efficiencies of $TCOD_{Cr}$ in the I/A-arch, I/A and A/S reactors were 93, 90 and 87%, respectively. 3) Nitrification occurred successfully in each reactor, while denitrification rate was much higher in the I/A-arch reactor. Efficiencies of TN removal in the I/A-arch, I/A and A/S reactors were 75, 63 and 33%, respectively.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of hydrochemical variation of groundwater on the gas tigtness in an unlined oil storage cavern. The groundwater chemistry is greatly influenced by the seawater mixing, the water curtain and the dissolution of grounting cements. The chemical composition of groundwater greatly varies ac-cording to both the location of monitoring wells and the sampling period. Most of groundwater shows alkaline pH and high electrical conductivity. The chemical types of groundwater show the dominant order as follows : Na-Cl type > Ca-Cl type > $Ca-HCO_3(CO_3)$ type. Thermodynamic equilibrium state between chemical composition of groundwater and major minerals indicates that carbonate minerals except clay minerals can be precipitated as a secondary mineral. It means that the secondary precipitates can not greatly exerts the clogging effect into fracture aperture in rock mass around oil storage cavern. The content of total organic carbon (TOC) shows a slightly increasing trend from initial stage to late stage. The $EpCO_2$ was computed so as to assess the gas contribution on the $CO_2$ in groundwater. The $EpCO_2$ of 0$\~$41.3 indicates that the contribution of oil gas on $CO_2$ pressure in groundwater system can be neglected.

In this study, real-time absorption coefficients of carbonaceous species in $PM_{2.5}$ was observed using a dual-spot 7-wavelength Aethalometer between November 1, 2016 and December 31, 2017 at an urban site of Gwangju. In addition, 24-hr integrated $PM_{2.5}$ samples were simultaneously collected at the same site and analyzed for organic carbon and elemental carbon (OC and EC) using the thermal-optical transmittance protocol. A main objective of this study was to estimate mass absorption cross section (MAC) values of black carbon (BC) particles at the study site using the linear regression between aethalometer-based absorption coefficient and filter-based EC concentration. BC particles observed at 880 nm is mainly emitted from combustion of fossil fuels, and their concentration is typically reported as equivalent BC concentration (eBC). eBC concentration calculated using MAC value of $7.77m^2/g$ at wavelength of 880 nm, which was proposed by a manufacturer, ranged from 0.3 to $7.4{\mu}g/m^3$ with an average value of $1.9{\pm}1.2{\mu}g/m^3$, accounting for 7.3% (1.5~20.9%) of $PM_{2.5}$. The relationship between aerosol absorption coefficients at 880 nm and EC concentrations provided BC MAC value of $15.2m^2/g$, ranging from 11.4 to $16.2m^2/g$. The eBC concentrations calculated using the estimated MAC of $15.2m^2/g$ were significantly lower than those reported originally from aethalometer, and ranged from 0.2 to $3.8{\mu}g/m^3$, with an average of $1.0{\pm}0.6{\mu}g/m^3$, accounting for 3.7% of $PM_{2.5}$ (0.8~10.7%). Result from this study suggests that if the MAC value recommended by the manufacturer is applied to calculate the equivalent BC concentration and radiative forcing due to BC absorption, they would result in significant errors, implying investigation of an unique MAC value of BC particles at a study site.

The aim of this study was to analyze spatial and temporal patterns of bacterial pollution levels and the relationship between bacterial pollutants and environmental parameters at the main stream and tributaries of Nakdong River. Water quality data including total coliform and fecal coliform were compiled from a total of 50 monitoring sites (30 at the main stream and 20 at the tributaries) along with rainfall and discharge data for three consecutive years from 2012 to 2014. During the study periods, the geometric mean values of total coliforms and fecal coliforms in the main stream were 74 (22~465) CFU/100 mL and 8 (3~42) CFU/100 mL, respectively. The geometric mean values of total coliforms and fecal coliforms in the tributaries were 275 (36~5,145) CFU/100 mL and 6 (1~1,352) CFU/100 mL, respectively. High concentrations of fecal coliforms were observed at Gumi (M 10), Hyeonpung (M 19), Hapcheon (M 23), and Namji (M 25) in the main stream, whereas Gamcheon (T 6), Bakcheon (T 7), Geumho-gang (T 8), and Gyeseongcheon (T 16) were identified as pollution hot spots in the tributaries. Although bacterial pollution levels showed complex behavior across monitoring sites and time, the highest coliform concentrations were routinely observed in the monsoon season between July and September of each year, indicating that the pollution levels were strongly dependent on precipitation in addition to other physiochemical parameters. Statistically significant correlations were found between fecal coliform concentrations and precipitation (r=0.403, p<0.01), followed by SS (r=0.425, p<0.01), nutrient TP (r=0.388, p<0.01), organic matter COD (r=0.322, p<0.01), and PO4-P (r=0.317, p<0.01) in the main stream in the order of correlation coefficient from high to low.
Nonpoint source pollution has become a concern for water quality in the Han River system, especially during the high runoff events during the monsoon season. The patterns in nonpoint source runoff the relationships with land use, rainfall intensity, and stream nutrients concentrations were surveyed in 19 streams in the Han River watershed. The results show that the magnitude of NPS inputs of nutrients and sediment in the Han River watershed are of a serious concern. In the South Han River watershed, event mean concentrations (EMC) for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), suspended sediment (SS), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), dissolved total phosphorus (DTP), total nitrogen (TN) Nitrate ($NO_3$-N) and total phosphorus (TP) were $1.94mg{\cdot}L^{-1},\;251mg{\cdot}L^{-1},\;2.75mg{\cdot}L^{-1},\;0.076mg{\cdot}L^{-1},\;2.82mg{\cdot}L^{-1},\;2.40mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and $0.232mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$, respectively. In the North Han River watershed, EMCs for BOD, SS, DOC, DTP, TN, $NO_3$-N and TP were $1.34mg{\cdot}L^{-1},\;172mg{\cdot}L^{-1},\;2.63mg{\cdot}L^{-1},\;0.032mg{\cdot}L^{-1},\;1.97mg{\cdot}L^{-1},\;1.55mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and $0.148mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$, respectively. The specific export coefficients of nutrient and sediments were much higher than those of other reports. Our study also found that the proportion of agricultural field area was significantly correlated with the EMCs for nutrients. Therefore, efforts to reduce NPS loading must focus on agricultural practices in the watershed. The relationships between land use and nutrient and sediment export found in this study can be used to derive estimates of runoff coefficients for agricultural field and as input data for modeling works and to develop total maximum daily load and best management practices in the Han River watershed.
This study was conducted to examine the impacts of different soil water potentials on environmental soil properties related to the moisture injury of Korean raspberry (Rubus coreanus Miq.). Soil water potential in the plastic film house plots was differentiated from -5 to -40 kPa. Soils in the plots contained 5.6% of plant available water. Increasing soil water contents based on the changes in water potential increased soil pH and exchangeable $Ca^{2+}$ content and decreased exchangeable $K^+$ and total N contents. It also declined soil organic matter content at 9 days after water treatments. Relationship between water potential and soil water content was given as an exponential equation, y = 96.534 - 20.28In(x). In particular, when the water potential was higher than -20 kPa (27.5% of soil moisture content), it decreased chlorophyll content in the raspberry leaves, inhibited N uptake by the plant, and increased phosphorus content with increasing days after water treatment. Also, as the 7 days after water treatment at higher than -20 kPa of water potential, the root activity of the plant was significantly decreased, and trunk (top)/root (T/R) ratio of the plant markedly declined until 9 days after water supply. Carbohydrate contents in the raspberry plant leaves and roots at dormant stage were the lowest at -5 and -10 kPa of water potential plots, and it may cause winter injury to the plant.
The above study is based upon the Theory of Five Woon(Reasons) and Six Qi(Climates), namely Five dynamic Yin and Yang, the principle of five-six combination, the rules of ten periodically changing Woon and twelve periodically changing Qi, and its reference to the main chapters of the theory by several experts. After careful, comprehensive research and study, the followings are concluded. 1. The Theory of Five Woon and Six Qi controls all of the physical phenomena of the universe, yet it originates from Essence of the Sky that is replete and in constant motion within the abysmal expanse of the universe. So it is natural to claim that it is the Essence of the universe that is the source of the variety of phenomena in nature. 2. There is order of dynamics in the Essence and it is Yin Yang Five Movement and expressed by Five Woon and Six Qi. Therefore the Five Woon and Six Qi, which is the climatic changes of nature, is the basis and condition for all of the natural, physical occurrences including the organic phenomena of human beings. 3. Since the Sky embodied the number Five, and the Earth the number Six, Qi of the Sky itself is consequently Five Woon and Qi of the Earth itself is Six Qi. 4. In Sixty Repetition Intervals (Yuk Sip Kap Ja), the Sky took the number Six, designating the six times repetition of the ten Intervals of the Sky and the Earth chose the number Five, symbolizing five times recurrence of the twelve Intervals of the Earth. Though the number for the Sky is Five and the number for the Earth is Six, the two combine and interact in order for the Sky to exploit the number Six and for the Earth to use the number Five. This interplay implies the relationship of operation and principle of Yin in Yang and Yang in Yin. 5. There seems to be clear and intimate association between five dynamics, five bearings and five Qi' in nature and five organs, five stamina, and five emotions in physiological activities of human beings. Such an correlation apparently demonstrates the idea of climatic changes of the universe in balance among human beings, the Sky, and the Earth. 6. Because nature is of an endlessly dynamic organism itself, to have changes must mear there being movements. Thus the climatic changes in nature are the subsequent consummation of the interaction in mutual balance and unbalance of the rise and fall of the Five Woon and Six Qi. 7. The interpretation, by Chang Ji Chong of "Yin and Yang of the Sky are for birth and growth and Yin and Yang of the Earth for demise and interment" as an explanation that the first half is mainly for life and the second half for death, appears to be correct by his view that there is balance and harmony between the long and short and the strong and weak. 8. In addition to Three Yang and Three Yin, as attributes of the Intervals of the Sky and the twelve Intervals of the Earth, Five Woon and Six Qi are utilized in the annual observation of the perpetual changes of climates.
Water samples were taken at 6 stations from the mouth of Keum River to Kogunsan Archipelago of West Sea during December, 1991 to August, 1992, to determine the distribution of heterotrophic bacteria, their biovolumes and heterotrophic activities. Heterotrophic marine bacteria ranged from $1.0\;{\times}\;10^3to\;5\;{\times}\;10^5c.f.u.$ /ml. As for morphological distribution measured by epifluorescence microscopy, rod-shaped bacteria were between 45% and 72% of all cells during investigation period. Average biovolume of sampled bacteria ranged from $(7.69\;{\pm}\;0.18)\;{\times}10^{-2}to\;(8.18\;{\pm}\;0.38)\;{\times}\;10^{-2}\;{\mu}m^3$ for coccoid bacteria, and from $(6.09\;{\pm}\;0.29)\;{\times}10^{-2}to\;(7.72\;{\pm}\;0.41)\;{\times}\;10^{-2}\;{\mu}m^3$ for rod-shaped ones. The activities of extracellular enzymes ranged from 0.01 to 2.6 ${\mu}M$ /l /hr for glucosidase, from 0.01 to 2.6 ${\mu}M$ /l /hr for amylase, from 0.01 to 8.86 ${\mu}M$ /I /hr phosphatase and from 0.01 to 0.94 ${\mu}M$ /l /hr for chitinase. Extracellular enzyme activities were higher in summer season than in other sampling periods, and phosphatase showed the highest activity among measured extracellular enzymes. Bacterial distribution and their extracellular enzyme activities were associated with water temperature and organic nutrients, but bacterial cell volumes showed no direct relationship with extracellular enzyme activities.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate relationship between worker's ophthalmoxerosis symptom and IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) variation after planting indoor plants at newly-built office building. Methods: We selected a new office building located in Sejong-si and occupants who work in the Office for study. The indoor air pollutant was investigated according to applying indoor plants. The indoor air quality of the new building was evaluated by measuring volatile organic compounds (VOCs), aldehydes, temperature and humidity. The level of dry eye symptoms was classified into normal, mild, moderate and severe by using the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI). Results: There was VOCs' reduction effect according to placing indoor plants because the concentration of VOCs in newly-built government office (Sejong-si) was highly decreased when the indoor plants was placed at the office. The occupants' SBS (Sick Building Syndrome) symptoms score was gradually decreased in accordance with applying indoor plants. However, SBS symptoms score was increased when the office was not applied indoor plants. There was not statistical significance in workers' dry eye questionnaire results. Conclusions: There was reduction effect of indoor air pollutant in applied indoor plants office. Also, in case of questionnaire results of ophthalmoxerosis and SBS (Sick Building Syndrome) symptoms score were showed positive effect. This study is needed longer-term study because of complements of difference of individual sensitivity and there are some limitations due to field survey research.
