  • Aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO) films are attractive materials as transparent conductive electrode because they are inexpensive, nontoxic and abundant element compared with indium tin oxide (ITO). AZO films have been deposited on glass (corning 1737) substrates by RF magnetron sputtering system. The electrical resistivity of AZO films was $1.81{\times}10^{-2}{\Omega}cm$ and the average transmittance in the visible range 400-800 nm was more than 76% Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with AZO/TPD/$Alq_3$/Al configuration were fabricated. The current density-voltage properties of devices were studied and compared with ITO devices fabricated under the same conditions.

  • Polymer/nanoparticle hybrids have been increasingly studied because of their enhanced properties for organic light emitting devices (OLEDs). In this study, we made poly(p-phenylene vinylene) (PPV) nanohybrid films by incorporation of Ag and $SiO_2$ nanoparticles into the PPV. A possible interaction between nanoparticles was investigated and especially we focused whether there is a change in the interaction between $SiO_2$ or Ag nanoparticles and matrix or not. The current characteristics of PPV nanohybrid films were analyzed by I-V and EL measurements. The optical properties were also investigated by UV-Vis spectroscopy and photoluminescence measurements.

  • In order to achieve white emission from organic light emitting devices (OLEDs), five distinct structures were fabricated and tested. The white emission was obtained using two different color-emitting materials (yellow from rubrene-doped $Alq_3$ and blue from DPVBi) with or without a carrier-blocking layer. For enhancing the red emission, two types of devices with three-color emitting materials were fabricated. The white emission, close to the CIE coordinate of (0.3,0.3), was achieved by using two blocking layers as well that as without a blocking layer. This paper covers the subject of controlling the location of exciton recombination zone. It has been found that there is a trade-off in that the devices with three color emitting layers do not show as much luminescence efficiency compared to those with two color emitting layers, but rather, show distinct red emission in the resultant emission spectra. The highest power efficiency was measured to be 1.15lm/W at 2,000 $cd/m^2$ for a structure with two color-emitting layers.

  • Organic electroluminescent devices are light-emitting diodes in which the active materials consist entirely of organic materials. Recently, many fluorescent organic materials have been reported and the study on synthesis and application of new organic light-emitting materials has been demanded. This paper reports the optical and electrical characteristics of OLEDs using novel polymers containing biphenyl structure. First, Optical properties of novel light-emitting biphenyl derivatives doped with poly(9-vinyl carbazole)(PVK) and emitted blue, bluish green color, which is attributed to the overlap area between PL spectrum of host(PVK) and absorption spectra of guests(polymer). This is correspondent with F$\"{o}$rster energy transfer process in the blends. And, OLED devices were fabricated using poly (3,4-ethylenedioxy thiophene) (PEDOT) as a hole injection material and tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum ($Alq_3$) as an electron transporting material. EL devices fabricated as ITO/PEDOT/PVK doped with biphenyl derivatives/$Alq_3$/Li:Al and I-V-L chatacteristics and emitting efficiency of EL devices were examined. Finally, the drift mobility of PVK doped with biphenyl derivatives and $Alq_3$ were measured by TOF technique varying applied electric field. EL efficiency was increased as the ratio of hole mobility of PVK doped with biphenyl derivatives and electron mobility of $Alq_3$ was close to one.

  • The intermediate connectors play crucial roles in the performance of tandem organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) because they are required to facilitate charge carrier transport and to guarantee transparency for light transmission and deposition compatibility. Understanding the physical properties of the intermediate connector is not only fundamentally important but is also crucial to developing high-efficiency organic devices with a tandem structure. In this study, several effective intermediate connectors in tandem OLEDs using a doped or non-doped organic p-n heterojunction were systematically investigated by studying their interfacial electronic structures and corresponding device characteristics. The working mechanisms of the intermediate connectors are discussed herein by referring to their relevant energy levels with respect to those of the neighboring organic layers. The factors affecting the operation of the intermediate connectors in tandem OLEDs, as demonstrated herein, provide guidance for the identification of new materials and device architectures for high-performance devices.

  • We presented a micro hemi-sphere structure flexible film to improve the external quantum efficiency (EQE) in OLEDs. The micro hemi-sphere flexible film was fabricated with breath figure (BF) method and replica process. At 45 mg/mL of concentration, the size of the hemi-spheres was approximately 6.2 ㎛ were obtained which are the most circular shape. So, it was possible to yield the best performance with an improvement of 33 % in the EQE and the widest viewing angle ranging from 0° to 70°. As a result, the hemi-sphere film's size and distribution seem to play important roles in enhancing the EQE in OLEDs. Furthermore, the flexible hemi-sphere film based on polymeric materials could offer an effective, large-scale, mass-produced product and a simple process and approach to achieve high efficiency in flexible OLEDs.

  • Transparent In-doped (1 at.%) zinc oxide (IZO) thin films are deposited by pulsed DC magnetron sputtering with H2 mixed Ar atmosphere on glass substrate without any heating process. Even at room temperature, highly c-axis oriented IZO thin films were grown in perpendicular to the substrate. The hydrogenated IZO (IZO:H) film isolated in H2 atmosphere for 30 min exhibited an average optical transmittance higher than 85% and low electrical resistivity of less than 2.7 × 10?3 Ω·cm. These values are comparable with those of commercially available ITO. Each of the IZO films was used as an anode contact to fabricate organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and the device performances studied. At the current density of 1 × 103 A/m2, the OLEDs with IZO:H (H2) anode show excellent efficiency (11 V drive voltage) and a good brightness (8000 cd/m2) of the light emitted from the devices, which are as good as the control device built on a commercial ITO anode.

  • In this paper, the electric characteristics in multilayer organic light emitting, diodes(OLEDs) are observed using a numerical device modeling method. The methode is applied to a general device structure, ITO/CuPC/${\alpha}-NPD$/ Alq3/LiF/Al, that has received broad attention in previous literature. The fitted current-voltage characteristics are quite consistent with the results which was experimentally determined in reference papers. This research approached results in a detailed understanding of the operating machanism of a multilayer OLEDs and applied to a set of real devices.

  • We have studied electrical properties and luminous efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs) with different buffer layer and cathodes in a temperature range of 10 K and 300 K. Four different device structures were made. The OLEDs are based on the molecular compounds, N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD) as a hole transport, tris(8-hydroxyquinolinato) aluminum(III) (Alq$_3$) as an electron transport and omissive layer, and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) :poly (styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS ) as a buffer layer. And LiAl was used as a cathode. Among the devices, the ITO/PEDOT:PSS/TPD/Alq$_3$/LiAl structure has a low energy-barrier height for charge injection and show a good luminous efficiency. We have got a highly efficient and low-voltage operating device using the conductive PEDOT:PSS and low work-function LiAl. From current-voltage characteristics with temperature variation, conduction mechanisms are explained SCLC (space charge limited current) and tunneling one. We have also studied energy barrier height and luminous efficiency at various temperature.
