Effects of medium chain triglycerides with organic acids on growth performance, fecal score, blood profiles, intestinal morphology, and nutrient digestibility in weaning pigs

  • Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of medium chain triglycerides (MCT) with organic acids (OA) on growth performance, fecal score, blood profiles, intestinal morphology, and nutrient digestibility in weaning pigs. Methods: A total of 120 weaning pigs ([Yorkshire×Landrace]×Duroc) with an average body weight (BW) of 8.00±0.87 kg were assigned in five treatments considering sex and initial BW in 3 replications with 8 pigs per pen in a randomized complete block design. The experimental diets included a corn-soybean meal based basal diet with or without 0.1% or 0.2% MCT and 0.1% OA. The pigs were fed the diets for 5 weeks (phase 1, 0 to 2 weeks; phase 2, 3 to 5 weeks). A total of 15 barrows with an average BW of 12.48±0.37 kg were used to evaluate the nutrient digestibility by total collection method. The BW and feed intake were measured at the end of each phase. Blood samples and small intestine samples were collected at the end of each phase, too. Results: Supplementing 0.1% MCT with 0.1% OA showed greater BW for week 5 and average daily gain (ADG) for overall period than control diet. Supplementing 0.1% MCT increased (p<0.05) ADG and improved (p<0.05) gain:feed ratio for phase 1. Dietary MCT and OA did not affect the fecal score and blood concentration of cortisol, immunoglobulin G, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-6, and IL-10 in weaning pigs. Pigs fed the diets with 0.1% MCT had greater (p<0.05) villus height of duodenum and ileum for phase 1. Also, pigs fed the diet with 0.1% OA showed greater (p<0.05) villus height and villus height to crypt depth ratio of duodenum for phase 2. There was no significant difference in nutrient digestibility and nitrogen retention of pigs. Conclusion: Addition of 0.1% MCT with 0.1% OA in weaning pig's diet improved growth performance partly by enhancing intestinal morphology in weaning pigs.

폴리페놀을 다량 함유한 커피박 및 녹차박 추출물의 수준별 첨가가 반추위 발효 및 메탄 발생량에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Addition Levels of Coffee and Green Tea By-products Extract including Polyphenols on in vitro Rumen Fermentation and Methane Emission)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of addition levels of coffee and green tea by products extract including polyphenols through hot water extraction on rumen fermentation. The treatment groups consisted of coffee extract (CO), green tea extract (GR) and mixed extract (MIX), and the addition level was 10 µL, 20 µL and 30 µL of three levels. The experiment consisted of a total of 10 experimental groups including the control group, and a full factorial design was used. The effect of polyphenol addition in coffee and green tea by-products was analyzed through main and interaction effect of statistical analysis. The total polyphenol content of the extracts was 106.15, 79.10 and 185.25 ㎍ GAE/g DM for coffee by-product, green tea by-product and mixture, respectively. Total gas production was significantly lower in the treatment groups than in the control (114.00 mL/gDM) (p<0.05). Methane emission tended to decrease as the polyphenol addition level increased. Moreover, the MIX showed the lowest methane emission when 30 µL was added (p<0.05). Volatile fatty acids showed a significant difference compared to the treatment group as a control (98.06 mM) (p<0.05), but there was no change according to the level of polyphenols. As a result of the main effect and interaction, it is thought that the effect on methane reduction and improvement of rumen fermentation in MIX20 can be expected. In a series of studies, the addition of 20 µL of a blended extract of coffee and green tea by-products is thought to reduce methane to levels that do not inhibit rumen fermentation.

담금용기에 따른 한국 전통 간장의 맛 성분 분석 (Analysis of Taste Compounds in Traditional Korean Soy Sauce by Two Different Fermantation Jars)

  • 본 연구에서는 한국 전통 간장의 담금용기를 달리하였을 때와 메주의 농도를 상법보다 높게 하였을 때의 질소성분 함량과 향기성분을 분석하고 향미의 관능검사를 실시한 후 향기성분 패턴과의 통계적 해석을 통해 어떠한 성분이 간장의 관능 특성에 영향을 주는지 알아보았다. 본 연구에서 얻은 결과들을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 간장의 맛에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 요인으로 평가되고 있는 질소성분의 함량에서, 총질소의 경우는 메주의 농도와 상관없이 유리병이 항아리보다 높았으며 메주의 농도가 높은 경우 많은 양을 함유하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 유리병은 항아리보다 적은 양의 amino태 질소와 더 많은 양의 ammonia태 질소를 함유하고 있어 질적인 면에서 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 2. 유리아미노산의 함량을 조사한 결과, 총유리미노산의 함량은 150일 이후 최고치를 보였다. 지미와 감미를 내는 glutamic acid, aspartic acid, serine, alanine, Iysine의 함량이 높게 나타났고, 쓴맛에 관여하는 valine, phenylaalanine, leucine, isoleucine의 함량도 높게 나타났다. 3. 휘발성 유기산으로는 acetic acid가 가장 많이 함유되어 있는 것으로 나타났고 항아리가 유리병보다 함량이 높았으며 메주농도 1 : 4는 완만한 증가를 보이나 1.3 : 4는 숙성기간 150일에 급격한 증가를 나타냈다. 고린내의 주요성분으로 알려져 있는 butyric acid는 유리병 1 : 4와 항아리 1.3 : 4가 비슷한 경향을 보였으며 유리병 1.3:4에서는 급격하게 감소하였다. 그러나 모든 군에서 숙성기간이 경과할수록 감소하는 일정한 경향을 보였다. 이 외에 valeric acid와 capric acid가 소량씩 함유되어 있는 것으로 나타났다.차이가 있었으며, 추출방법에 따라서도 향 기성분의 조성비가 다르게 나타났다. 하는 것이 바람직하다고 하였다. 4. 조사대상자의 식습관은 보통수준으로 판정되었으며, 양로원과 같은 복지기관에서 생활하는 노인의 식습관이 가장 좋았고 딸이 식사준비를 할 때 낮았으며(p<.05), 노인의 식성을 고려하여 식사준비를 할 때 높았고 식성이 고려되지 않을 경우 낮았다(p<.001). 스스로 건강하다고 생각하는 남자 노인일수록 식습관 점수가 높았다(p<.001). 5. 아침 식사를 규칙적으로 하는 노인이 77.5%였으며 식사시 식품의 배합을 고려하거나 규칙적으로 녹황색 채소 및 과일을 섭취하는 조사 대상자는 매우 드물었으며 고기·생선·계란 및 콩 등의 단백질 식품, 우유, 과일, 해조류식품이 건강에 유익하다고 알고 있으나 실제 섭취 빈도는 낮았으며, 특히 우유의 섭취가 매우 저조하였다(p<.01). 이상과 같은 결과로 탑골공원에 모여 소일하는 남자노인이 비교적 건강하였고 식습관이 보통 수준이었음을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 노인 혼자 식사할수록 불규칙한 식사를 하였고 식습관이 좋지 않았다. 대체적으로 결식 특히 점심결식 비율이 다소 높았는데 그 이유는 식욕이 없거나 경제적인 여유가 없어서로 나타났다. 이러한 문제점들을 개선하기 위하여 우리 나라에서도 미국의 'Lunch program'과 같은 노인 영양프로그램을 개발하여 식사의 동기유발을 불러일으키고 최소한 하루의 한끼는 저가의 균형잡힌 식사를 할 수 있는 제도를 만들어야 하겠다.은 alanine과 glutamic acid였다. 함량이 많은 총 아미노산의 순은 glutamic acid, aspartic acid, arginine, valine, leucine의 순이었으며, 산초 종자의 glutamic acid의 함량이 2.39%로 매우 높았다. 4개의 시료중에

헤어리베치의 첨가가 맥류 사일리지의 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of supplementation of hairy vetch on the quality of whole crop barley silage)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of hairy vetch supplementation on quality of winter crop silage. There were 4 treatments (addition levels of hairy vetch ; 0, 5, 15, and 30%) with 3 replicates. Experimental silages stored for 40 days at room temperature ($20-25^{\circ}C$). THe silage crude protein level was improved (P<0.05) while hairy vetch supplementation increased. However, no difference was found (P>0.05) in crude fat, NDF and ADF of the silage while hairy vetch supplementation increased. The silage pH was increased (P<0.05) but lactic acid level was decreased (P<0.05) while hairy vetch supplementation increased. Nonetheless, acetic and butyric acids concentrations were increased (P<0.05) while hairy vetch supplementation increased. Sucrose, glucose and fructose levels were increased (P<0.05) while hairy vetch supplementation increased. Although negative effects were detected in whole crop barley silage while hairy vetch supplementation increased, optimum level of hairy vetch supplementation could be overwhelmed its negative effects on whole crop barley silage. Thus, the results of present study suggested that 15% hairy vetch supplementation of whole crop barley silage would be beneficial its quality maintenance compared to whole crop barley silage per se.

고분자 흡착제에 대한 유기산의 흡착성에 관한 연구 (A Study of the Adsorption Behavior of Organic Acids by Polymeric Adsorbents)

  • 이온쌍크로마토그래피에서 방향족 유기산들의 머무름을 연구하기 위하여 Amberlite XAD-4 수지에 대한 분배계수 값을 측정하였다. 유기산들의 XAD-4 수지에 대한 흡착은 시료의 농도, 용액의 pH 그리고 이온쌍 형성시약의 농도에 따라 영향을 받는다. Tetraalkylammonium염과 같은 이온쌍 형성 시약에 의한 유기산의 XAD-4 수지에 대한 흡착 증가는 전기적 이중층에 의한 이온 상호작용에 기인됨을 알았으며, 유기산과 이온쌍 형성 시약과의 상호작용은 공존이온과 상대이온의 종류와 농도에 따라 영향을 받음을 알았다. 한편, 이온쌍 형성시약과 메탄올의 농도 변화에 따른 XAD-4수지에 대한 유기산의 뱃치법과 용리법에서 얻은 용량인자의 관계는 좋은 직선관계를 보여주었다. 따라서 뱃치법의 실험으로써 용리법의 머무름을 예측할 수 있는 가능성을 제시하였다.

분홍색 통성 메탄올 자화세균의 분리 및 특성 (Isolation and Characterization of a Pink-Pigmented Facultative Methylotrophic Bacterium)

  • 흙으로부터 에탄올을 이용하여 성장하는 분홍색 통성 에단올 자화세율을 분리하여 Methylobacteriu~η sp. strain SY 1이라 명명하였다. 이 세균은 그람음성세균으호 약간 굽은 간균이고 한쪽 끝에 달련 한개의 편모로 운동하였다. 세균의 군략은 매끈 하고 밝은 분홍맺을 띄우며 정성이 높았다. 이 세균이 지니는 DNA의 G+C 함량은 약 66%로 나타났다. 이 제균은 칠대호가 성으호 catalase와 oxidase 활성을 나타내었고, carotenoid 색소와 poly-$\beta$-hydroxy butyrate를 가지고 있었다. 이 세균은 또 한 세가지 종류의 큰 plasmid DNA (45,000, 38,500, 23,000)을 가졌으며, $30^{\circ}C$와 pH7.0에서 0.5%(v/v)의 에탄올을 이용 하여 빼른 성장을 하였다($t_{d}$=6.5시간), 이 세균은 메탄올은 울온 여러까지 종듀의 당, 유기산, 아미노산, 아민 및 알코올을 이용하여 성장할 수 있었고, 메탄올은 serine pathway를 통하여 이 세균의 세포 구성물질로 전환됨을 알 수 있었다.

Mixotrophic Cultivation of a Native Cyanobacterium, Pseudanabaena mucicola GO0704, to Produce Phycobiliprotein and Biodiesel

  • Global warming has accelerated in recent decades due to the continuous consumption of petroleum-based fuels. Cyanobacteria-derived biofuels are a promising carbon-neutral alternative to fossil fuels that may help achieve a cleaner environment. Here, we propose an effective strategy based on the large-scale cultivation of a newly isolated cyanobacterial strain to produce phycobiliprotein and biodiesel, thus demonstrating the potential commercial applicability of the isolated microalgal strain. A native cyanobacterium was isolated from Goryeong, Korea, and identified as Pseudanabaena mucicola GO0704 through 16s RNA analysis. The potential exploitation of P. mucicola GO0704 was explored by analyzing several parameters for mixotrophic culture, and optimal growth was achieved through the addition of sodium acetate (1 g/l) to the BG-11 medium. Next, the cultures were scaled up to a stirred-tank bioreactor in mixotrophic conditions to maximize the productivity of biomass and metabolites. The biomass, phycobiliprotein, and fatty acids concentrations in sodium acetate-treated cells were enhanced, and the highest biodiesel productivity (8.1 mg/l/d) was achieved at 96 h. Finally, the properties of the fuel derived from P. mucicola GO0704 were estimated with converted biodiesels according to the composition of fatty acids. Most of the characteristics of the final product, except for the cloud point, were compliant with international biodiesel standards [ASTM 6761 (US) and EN 14214 (Europe)].

곤충에 의한 계분의 분해 특성평가에 대한 연구(2) (A Case Study on Facilitating the Decomposition of Poultry Manure using Insect Larvae(2))

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the structure and composition (i.e., pH, moisture, total-N, pathogens, and volatile fatty acids) of broiler and duck manure treated with larvae of three insect larvae, namely, Tenebrio molitor, Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis, and Ptecticus tenebrifer. Hatched Tenebrio molitor (n=300), Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis (n=60), and Ptecticus tenebrifer (n=300) were used in this study; specially, the larvae were divided into six treatments with three replicates. The treatments were as follows: T1: 110 g broiler manure + Tenebrio molitor larvae (n=50), T2: 110 g duck manure + Tenebrio molitor larvae (n=50), T3: 125 g broiler manure + Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis larvae (n=10), T4: 125 g duck manure + Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis larvae (n=10), T5: 105 g broiler manure + Ptecticus tenebrifer larvae (n=50), and T6: 105 g duck manure + Ptecticus tenebrifer larvae (n=50). For all the larval treatments, the following results were observed: The moisture content of the duck manure treat with three insect larvae was higher than that of the broiler manure (p<0.05), whereas broiler manure had a higher pH (p<0.05). In addition, the total nitrogen content of broiler manure was higher than that of duck manure (p<0.05). However, the insect larvae did not significantly affect pathogens (E.coli and Salmonella) and the volatile fatty acids (p>0.05). In conclusion, the use of the three insect larvae to create organic nitrogen compost using poultry manure is feasible.

Effect of Heavy Metal Resistant and Halotolerant Rhizobacterium Bacillus safensis KJW143 on Soybean under Salinty and Cadmium Exposure

  • Cadmium and salt exposure to crops is considered vulnerable for production as well as consumption. To address these challenges, the current study aimed to mitigate the toxicity induced by salt and cadmium in soybean plants through the application of bacterial strain Bacillus safensis KJW143 isolated from the rhizosphere of oriental melon..The bioassay analysis revealed that KJW143 is a highly salt-tolerant and cadmium-resistant (Cd) strain with an innate ability to produce melatonin, gibberellin (GA3), Indole-3-Acetic Acid (IAA), and organic acids (i.e., acetic, succinic, lactic, and propionic acids). Soybean plants at 20 days old were treated with KJW143 in a different form (pellet, broth, and together) and their effect on plant performance was investigated. Inoculation with KJW143enhanced plant biomass and growth attributes in soybean plants compared to the control (non-treated). In particular, we observed that only pellet-treated showed 65%, 27.5%, and 28.7% increase in growth (shoot fresh weight) compared to broth, broth with pellet, and control. In addition, bacterial strain KJW143 treatment (only pellet) modulated the physiochemical apparatus of soybean plants by increasing glucose (390%), arabinose (166%), citric acid (22.98%) and reducing hydrogen peroxide (29.7%), catalase (32.1%), salicylic acid (25.6%) compared to plants with combined stressed plants (cd and salinity). These findings suggest that bacterial strain KJW143 could be usedas a biofertilizer to minimize the probable risk of heavy metal and salinity stress on crops.

과즙의 열처리에 따른 뜰보리수 과실주의 품질 및 항산화 특징 (Quality and antioxidant charactistics of Elaeagnus multiflora wine through the thermal processing of juice)

  • 뜰보리수 열매의 이용성 증대를 위하여 뜰보리수 과즙에 열처리 후 과실주를 제조하고 그 특성을 조사하였다. 뜰보리수 과즙을 발효하였을 때 9일 경과 시 pH는 3.32~3.33, 가용성고형물은 7.8~9.0 $^{\circ}Brix$, 환원당은 29.84~31.05 g/L, 생균수는 7.26~8.73 CFU/mL, 알코올은 11.0% 있었다. 열처리된 과즙이 열처리되지 않은 과즙보다 항산화 활성이 높았으며, 이에 상응하여 수용성 phenolics와 flavonoids 함량도 높았다. 한편 $120^{\circ}C$에서 30 min 열처리 후 발효시킨 과실주의 유리당은 fructose(0.42 g/L) 및 glucose(0.09 g/L)가 소량 검출되었으며, 주요 유기산은 lactic acid(7.32 g/L), malic acid(2.59 g/L), succinic acid(2.16 g/L) 및 oxalic acid(3.08 g/L) 있었고 주요 flavonols와 phenolic acids 화합물은 catechin(99.45 mg/L), epicatechin(264.55 mg/L), epigallocatechin(82.19 mg/L), gallic acid(6.44 mg/L) 및 salicylic acid(60.53 mg/L)가 검출되었다. 부가적으로 DPPH 라디칼 소거활성, ABTS 라디칼 소거활성 및 FRAP 활성은 각각 70.47%, 65.93% 및 1.254% 이였다. 이 결과로부터 뜰보리수 과즙의 열처리에 따른 새로운 형태의 과실주를 개발할 수 있을 것으로 추측된다.
