Circulating substances can directly access the neurons in circumventricular organ (CVO) located on the border of cerebral ventricles. The neurons in CVO are considered to playa pivotal role in blood-brain communication. In subfonical organ (SFO), a CVO in forebrain, angiotensin II (AII) is mown to reduce A type $K^{+}$ current and input resistance, but enhance firing rate.(omitted)
Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the process of experience toward decision making to donate organs. Method: Eleven subjects who registered at the Association for Organ Sharing in Korea were recruited. Using in-depth interviews and tape-recordings, data was collected from Jun. 2001 to Feb. 2002 and the contents of these were analyzed by Glaser's grounded theory analysis method. Result: Basic Social-Psychological Problem(BSPP) of subjects were 'attachment to body' and the core theme, that is Basic Socialization Progress(BSP) were discovered to 'find out what is the meaning of life'. Also it consisted of four steps: 1st 'hesitate', 2nd 'look into self', 3rd 'realize the tie up to self' and last 're-find the meaning of life'. Conclusion: These findings indicate the Korean's Basic Socialization Progress of decision making regarding organ donation, so possible development of promoting decision making is necessary strategies for people who is having his/her potential of organ donation in mind.
A serious problem after cardiovascular surgery known as Multiple Organ Failure[MOF] whereby several vital organs successively demonstrate dysfunction in spite of intensive postoperative treatment has recently arisen. We have made a retrospective study of the clinical records of 137 patients who underwent cardiovascular surgery during past two years [1987-1988]. Fourteen patients [10%] developed multi-organ failure postoperatively with the results of seven death [50%]. In fatal group, preoperative poor cardiac function [Cardiac Index<2.0L/min/m2] was considered important prognostic factor and infection 5 disseminated intravascular coagulation complicating gastrointestinal bleeding were the leading cause of death. In conclusion, evaluation of multiple factors concerning multi-organ failure demonstrates preoperative poor functional preservation of vital organs is the main factor. So early diagnosis k management for each of the failing organs & prevention of infection are mandatory of the treatment of these critically ill patients.
We report a case of primary central nervous system(CNS) lymphoma in an organ recipient. A 33-years-old man who underwent a renal transplantation 3years previously presented with headache and vomiting. In Brain computed tomography scans and magnetic resonance images showed multiple periventricular cystic rim enhancing masses. Pathologic diagnosis by stereotactic biopsy revealed malignant non-Hodgkins B-cell lymphoma. After pathologic confirmation, methotrexate chemotherapy and whole brain radiation therapy were done. Having experienced such a case, the authors strongly recommend to add primary CNS lymphoma as one of the differential diagnoses to brain abscess, metastatic brain tumor and glioblastoma multiforme in cases of multiple ring enhancing periventricular lesions of immunocompromised patient or organ recipient.
In order to know the enzyme activities of Filbricola seouzenis, an intestinal trematode of human and rodent in Korea. the enzyme histochemical method is applicated. Activities of acid phosphatase (E.C.3.1.3.2) and non-specific esterase (E.C.3.1.1) were present in microvilli and glandular cells of trlbocytic organ and the epithelium of the caecum.

We successfully extirpated all four hemopoietic organ-wing disc complexes of the fifth instar larvae of Bombyx mori, and found that most of the treated silkworms could still develop into the moths. We investigated the changes of the circulating hemocytes and evaluated the effects of extirpation on the hemopoiesis. The results showed that proliferation of circulating hemocytes was sufficient to allow development of the silkworms which complexes were totally extirpated. We also found that hemopoietic organ-wing disc complexes extirpation might cause a certain hemopoietic compensation of the remainder complexes during early spinning. Exogenous hormones such as $20-{\beta}-hydroxyecdysone$ and juvenile hormone analog had a positive effect on hemocytes proliferation.
The model of an isolated organ system has been constructed to simulated the behavior of drug in the circulatory system of an acting organ or site. The model is developed on the following assumptions : The drug in the microcirculatory system cannot permeate the capilary walls. The capilary bed is modeled as a simple ideal plug flow system with and without radial concentration gradient. The mathematical model is developed from basic considerations of drug distribution with hemodynamical and pharmacokinetical meanings. It is considered that a nonmetabolic drug substance is injected into the arterial inflow site of an isolated organ at a constant rate. The concentration of the drug in the outflow site is mathematically expressed as a function of time.

This paper analysed the characteristics of current density induced inside human body by 60 Hz extremely low frequency magnetic fields according to varying conductivities of human model. Human model was composed of several organs and other parts, whose shapes were expressed by spheroids or cylinders. Organs such as the brain, heart, lungs, liver and intestines were taken into account. Applying the boundary element method to the human model, we estimated effects on the induced current distribution due to differences of the organ conductivity and shape. We find organ conductivity influences most and a cross section area and a position of organ also gives effects.
Organ growth is fundamental to animal development. One of major mechanisms for growth control is mediated by the conserved Hippo signaling pathway initially identified in Drosophila. The core of this pathway in Drosophila consists of a cascade of protein kinases Hippo and Warts that negatively regulate transcriptional coactivator Yorkie (Yki). Activation of Yki promotes cell survival and proliferation to induce organ growth. A key issue in Hippo signaling is to understand how core kinase cascade is activated. Activation of Hippo kinase cascade is regulated in the upstream by at least two transmembrane proteins Crumbs and Fat that act in parallel. These membrane proteins interact with additional factors such as FERM-domain proteins Expanded and Merlin to modulate subcellular localization and function of the Hippo kinase cascade. Hippo signaling is also influenced by cytoskeletal networks and cell tension in epithelia of developing organs. These upstream events in the regulation of Hippo signaling are only partially understood. This review focuses on our current understanding of some upstream processes involved in Hippo signaling in developing Drosophila organs.
The loss or failure of an organ or tissue can occur because of accident or disease, for which tissue or organ transplantation is a generally accepted treatment. However, this approach is extremely limited due to donor shortage. Tissue engineering is a new and exciting strategy, in which patients who need a new organ or tissue are supplied with a synthetic organ or tissue. In this approach, tissues are engineered using a combination of the patient's own cells and a polymer scaffold. The polymer scaffold potentially mimics many roles of extracellular matrices in the body. Various polymers have been studied and utilized to date in tissue engineering approaches. However, no single polymer has been considered ideal for all types of tissues and approaches. This paper discusses the design parameters of those polymers potentially useful in tissue regeneration.
