  • Korea has entered into the Post Catching-up era and the necessity of new innovation strategy in response is being raised. This study argues the necessity of new innovation strategy and discusses the issue of co-ordination between R&D and Human Resource for that as the key factor. From empirical analysis, there seems to be restricted inflow of outstanding human resources to manufacturing sectors and lowering effectiveness of major even with the improved compatibility between major and job. Especially, it is severe in the industries with high R&D investment. It can be interpreted as an incoordination of the technological innovation efforts from the aspect of R&D investment with human resource utilization from the aspect of new human resource. The analytical result and interpretation suggests that there should be more active improvement on the co-ordination between innovative manufacturers' efforts and human resource utilization, in order to keep sustainable development.

  • Photoelastic experiment has been used to analyze stress of structure and stress in the vicinity of crack tip etc.. Model experiment such as photoelastic experiment has been restricted by problem of residual stress in the photoelastic model material. They are generated by molding, cutting and time effects etc.. They produce some errors in the results of photoelastic experiment data. In this paper, stress optic law considering residual stress already developed by authors was applied to the stress concentration problem and fracture mechanics. Although the specimen was bad with residual stress, we could obtain good results by using the stress optic law considering residual stress. It was found that the stress optic law of photoelastic experiment could be applied to the stress analysis of bimaterial.

  • Noise radiated from pile driving operation is one of major sources of community noise pollution and thus its operation method is strictly restricted by regulations. Although the drilling method is now used been commonly used in urban areas because of its activity, the benefit of low noise decreases due to high working cost. In the present work, noise characteristics of pile driving operation are carried out. Based on the study result, a low-noise pile cap for driven piles is developed in order to satisfy both the noise level restriction and the economical efficiency. Effects of pile cap are investigated by a scale model experiment, which is focused on the variation of impact force and sound pressure level. The results show a good possibility of noise reduction by an appropriately designed pile cap.

  • In reverse engineering (RE) sustems, the quality of the data aquisition process is crucial to the accuracy of the reverse engineered three dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) model. However, these tasks are predominantly done manually, and little work has been done to improve the efficiency of scanning by determining the minimum number of scans and the optimal scanning directions. In this paper, new scanning and registration methods using tooling balls are developed to assist in determining the optimal parameter for these processes. When the object to scanned has no concavity, attaching path of the object and its bounding rectangle are used for optimal scanning and registration. Then minimum number of tooling balls and their positions are calculated automatically. In the case of concave parts, the scanning plan should include a complete scan of the concave area. With the surface normal vector and the scanning direction, the minimum degree of rotating the part can be calculated. But the maximum rotation should be restricted in order to prevent occlusion of the part. Finally tow sample part ar scanned based on the proposed methods and the results are discussed.

  • We propose an efficient face recognition system for controllinng the access to the restricted zone using both the face region detectors based on facial symmetry and the extended self-organizing maps (ESOM) which have sensory synapses and descriptive synapses. Based on the visual cues of the facial symmetry, we apply horizontal and vertical projections on elliptic regions detected by GHT(generalized hough transform) to identify all the face regions from the complex background. And we propose an ESOM which can exploit principal components and imitate an elastic similarity matching, to authenticate faces of the enlisted member. In order to cope with changes of facial experession or glasses wearing, etc, the facial descriptions of each member at the time of authentication are simultaneously updated on the discriptive synapses online using the incremental learning of the proposed ESOM. Experimental results prove the feasibility of our approach.

  • When the vibration troubles occur on the ship structure during the sea trial, the rectification work is very restricted because of in-situ limitation. Usually the finite element method is used to improve vibration characteristics of the structure, but it takes lots of time and effort in modeling the structure and adjusting the finite element model in order to consider appropriate boundary conditions of a complex ship structure. Therefore, experimental methods have been in general suggested to obtain proper countermeasures without time-consuming in modeling. In this paper, FRF(frequency response function) synthesis method is applied to estimate natural frequency of the modified ship structure, which is obtained from experimental and numerical methods.

  • The purpose of the study was to develop evaluation methods which would measure student achievement and progress without traditional paper-pencil tests such as mid-term and final examinations. More specifically, the main research focus were to establish general directions of student assessment during free semester, to build evaluation models supporting student's participation and learning, and to report and record various student evaluation results. As research results, we found that student evaluation of free semester should be organized to improve a) experience learning activity, self-regulatory and collaboratory study, b) high-order thinking ability and character-building, and c) teacher-student-parent cooperation. Since traditional paper-pencil tests were restricted in free semester, student achievement should be provided by a way of performance descriptions on transcripts rather than quantitative grade points. Student performance descriptions had to show not only subject knowledge but also students efforts, motivation, and participation. These multiple and educationally meaningful information would be collected by teacher-student-parent communication and collaboration.

  • In order to investigate the morphological characteristics of dendritic cells in the mammary gland of the mouse (C57 BL/6), rat(W), rabbit and cat, the fine structures of the dendritic cells have been observed by the electron microscope. The results obtained were summarized as follows: The dendritic cells with the well-developed processes had an irregular shape, and lacked the desmosome. The pinocytotic vesicles and tubular invaginations of the cell membrane were frequently observed, and the mitochondria with the well-developed cristae were located in the restricted region in the cytoplasm of the dendritic cells. The nuclei of dendritic cells were indented, In the mice and rats, the dendritic cells had a few Langerhans cell granules(Birbeck granules). From the above results, it is confirmed that the ATPase-positive dendritic cells in the mammary gland are the Langerhans cells.

  • This paper reviews Bayesian inference with inequality constraints. It focuses on ⅰ) comparison of models with various inequality/equality constraints on parameters, ⅱ) multiple tests on equalities of parameters when parameters are under inequality constraints, ⅲ) multiple test on equalities of score parameters in models for contingency tables with ordinal categorical variables.

  • In principle, both radiation and collision are capable of pumping the SiO masers. In order to check which pumping mechanism is more efficient, we calculated the rate equation for our model including the 3 vibrational slates with 7 rotational states of each vibrational slate. Through solving the radiative transfer equation with the Sovolev approximation, we estimated the line profiles from an expanding envelope for several transitions. It is found that the collision works more efficiently than the radiation for the inversion in excited vibrational stales. However in an expanding envelope model we could not get the strong line intensity as observed one because the population inversion is possible only in a small restricted region. For the enough population inversion to get type observed maser intensity. the number density of SiO and hydrogen molecules should be up to about $2{\times}10^5\;cm^{-3}$ and $1{\times}10^9\;cm^{-3}$, respectively, and the inversion should be occured in the region of no Jess than 11014cm.
