For satellite orbit determination, a satellite (K-3H) which is affected by the earth's gravitational field and the earth's atmospheric drag, the sun, and the moon is chosen as a dynamic model. The state vector include orbit parameters, uncertain parameters associated with perturbations and tracking stations. These perturbations include gravitational constant, atmospheric drag, and jonal harmonics due to the earth nonsphericity. Early orbit was obtained with given the predicted orbital parameter of the satellite. And orbit determination, which is applied to Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) for real time implementation , use the observation data which is given by satellite tracking radar system and then orbit estimation is accomplished. As a result, extended sequential estimation algorithm has a fast convergence and also indicate effectiveness for real time operation.

GEO-KOMPSAT2 shall provide higher quality of image than the COMS and uses star tracker instead of earth sensor, which requires precise onboard orbit information. This requires precise on-ground orbit determination. For COMS, orbit determination is performed using the ranging data obtained from tracking system located in DAEJON. For accurate orbit determination of GEO-KOMPSAT2, KARI is building a secondary tracking station in CHUUK Islands. In this paper, the achievable accuracy of table based onboard orbit parameter generator which interpolates orbit data obtained from on-ground orbit determination using tracking data collected from two ground stations. Two types of approaches have been applied; covariance analysis and numerical analysis. By combining two analysis results, total orbit error has been estimated.
We used an optical observation system with a 0.6m wide-field telescope and 5 computers system in KASI (Korean Astronomy and Space Science Institute) for satellite optical observation. Optical data have errors that are caused by targeting, expose start time and end-point determination. Gauss method for initial orbit determination was tested using angle-only data simulated by KODAS. And suitable time span is confirmed for result which has minimum errors. Initial orbit determination results are proved that optical observation system in KASI is possible satellite tracking for a short period. And also through differential correction, initial orbit determination results are improved.
The satellite orbit is continuously changing due to space environment. Especially for low earth orbit, atmospheric drag plays an important role in the orbit altitude decay. Recently, solar activities are expected to be high, and relevant events are occurring frequently. In this paper, analysis on the impact of geomagnetic storm on LEO satellite orbit is presented. For this, real flight data of KOMPSAT-2, KOMPSAT-3, and KOMPSAT-5 are analyzed by using the daily decay rate of mean altitude is calculated from the orbit determination. In addition, the relationship between the solar flux and geomagnetic index, which are the metrics for solar activities, is statistically analyzed with respect to the altitude decay. The accuracy of orbit prediction with both the fixed drag coefficient and estimated one is examined with the precise orbit data as a reference. The main results shows that the improved accuracy can be achieved in case of using estimated drag coefficient.
In 1995 the VSOP satellite, which is called MUSES-B in Japan, will be launched under the VLBI Space Observatory Programme(VSOP) promoted by ISAS(Institute of Space and Astronautical Science) of Japan. We are now developing the GPS Receiver(GPSR) and On-board Orbit Determination System. This paper describes the GPS(Global Positioning System), VSOP, GPSR(GPS Receiver system) configuration and the results of the GPS system analysis. The GPSR consists of three GPS antennas and 5 channel receiver package. In the receiver package, there are two 16 bits microprocessing units. The power consumption is 25 Watts in average and the weight is 8.5 kg. Three GPS antennas on board enable GPSR to receive GPS signals from any NAVSTARs(GPS satellites) which are visible. NAVSATR's visibility is described as follows. The VSOP satellite flies from 1, 000 km to 20, 000 km in height on the elliptical orbit around the earth. On the other hand, the orbit of NAVSTARs are nearly circular and about 20, 000 km in height. GPSR can't receive the GPS signals near the apogee, because NAVSTARs transmit the GPS signals through the NAVSTAR's narrow beam antennas directed toward the earth. However near the perigee, GPSR can receive from 12 to 15 GPS signals. More than 4 GPS signals can be received for 40 minutes, which are related to GDOP(Geometric Dillusion Of Precision of selected NAVSTARs). Because there are a lot of visible NAVSTARs, GDOP is small near the perigee. This is a favorqble condition for GPSR. Orbit determination system onboard VSOP satellite consists of a Kalman filter and a precise orbit propagator. Near the perigee, the Kalman filter can eliminate the orbit propagation error using the observed data by GPSR. Except a perigee, precise onboard orbit propagator propagates the orbit, taking into account accelerations such as gravities of the earth, the sun, the moon, and other acceleration caused by the solar pressure. But there remain some amount of calculation and integration errors. When VSOP satellite returns to the perigee, the Kalman filter eliminates the error of the orbit determined by the propagator. After the error is eliminated, VSOP satellite flies out towards an apogee again. The analysis of the orbit determination is performed by the covariance analysis method. Number of the states of the onboard filter is 8. As for a true model, we assume that it is based on the actual error dynamics that include the Selective Availability of GPS called 'SA', having 17 states. Analytical results for position and velocity are tabulated and illustrated, in the sequel. These show that the position and the velocity error are about 40 m and 0.008 m/sec at the perigee, and are about 110 m and 0.012 m/sec at the apogee, respectively.

In this paper, a real time on-board orbit determination method using the extended kalman filter is suggested and its performance is analyzed in the environment of the orbit. Considering the limited on-board resources, the $J_2$ orbit propagate model and the GPS navigation solution are used for on-board orbit determination. The analysis result of the on-board orbit determination method implemented in DubaiSat-2 showed that position and velocity error are improved from 70.26 m to 26.25 m and from 3.6 m/s to 0.044 m/s, respectively when abnormal excursion errors is removed in the GPS navigation solution.

The unexpected observation condition or insufficient measurement modeling can lead to uncertain measurement errors. The uncertain measurement error of orbit determination problem typically consists of noise, bias and drift. It must be removed by using a proper estimation process for better orbit accuracy. The estimation of noise and drift is not easy because of their random or unpredictable variation. On the other hand, bias is a constant difference between the mean of the measured values and the true value, so it can be simply removed. In this study, precision orbit determination with SLR observations considering range bias estimation is presented. The Yonsei Laser-ranging Precision Orbit Determination System (YLPODS) and SLR NP (Normal Point) observations of CHAMP satellite are used for this work. The SLR residual test is performed to estimate the range bias of each arc. The result shows that we can get better orbit accuracy through range bias estimation.

This paper presents an overview of deep space orbit determination software (DSODS), as well as validation and verification results on its event prediction capabilities. DSODS was developed in the MATLAB object-oriented programming environment to support the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) mission. DSODS has three major capabilities: celestial event prediction for spacecraft, orbit determination with deep space network (DSN) tracking data, and DSN tracking data simulation. To achieve its functionality requirements, DSODS consists of four modules: orbit propagation (OP), event prediction (EP), data simulation (DS), and orbit determination (OD) modules. This paper explains the highest-level data flows between modules in event prediction, orbit determination, and tracking data simulation processes. Furthermore, to address the event prediction capability of DSODS, this paper introduces OP and EP modules. The role of the OP module is to handle time and coordinate system conversions, to propagate spacecraft trajectories, and to handle the ephemerides of spacecraft and celestial bodies. Currently, the OP module utilizes the General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT) as a third-party software component for high-fidelity deep space propagation, as well as time and coordinate system conversions. The role of the EP module is to predict celestial events, including eclipses, and ground station visibilities, and this paper presents the functionality requirements of the EP module. The validation and verification results show that, for most cases, event prediction errors were less than 10 millisec when compared with flight proven mission analysis tools such as GMAT and Systems Tool Kit (STK). Thus, we conclude that DSODS is capable of predicting events for the KPLO in real mission applications.
In this paper, the performance of the sequential filter for a space debris collision management system is analyzed by using the flight data of KOMPSAT-2. To analyze the performance of the sequential filter, the results of batch filter used in the orbit determination system of the KOMPSAT-2 ground station is used as reference data. The overlap method is also used to evaluate the orbit accuracy. This paper shows that the orbit determination accuracy of the sequential filter is similar to that of the KOMPSAT-2 ground station, but dissimilar characteristics exist due to the filter difference. In addition, it is also shown that the orbit determination accuracy is order of 1m root mean square by using 30 hour GPS navigation solutions and 6 hour comparison period for the overlap method.

Increase of space debris makes low earth orbit(LEO) environment more complex day by day and space situation Awareness(SSA) is becoming more important. As an essential part of SSA, space object surveillance and tracking is studied by many countries including America and Europe. And radar system forms the backbone of an space surveillance and tracking. Currently, Korea operates many LEO satellites like KOMPSAT but does not have dedicated radar systems which provide collision surveillance between satellite and space debris. Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI) NARO space center operates launch-vehicle tracking radar system in GOHEUNG and JEJU, respectively. In this paper, we describe developing operation concept to track International Space Station(ISS) using NARO radar and results of tracking. Then, we describe ISS orbit determination using radar tracking data. Lastly, orbit determination result is compares with TLE for analyzing effectiveness of orbit determination.
