  • The objective of this study was to investigate the adsorption potential of chicken feathers for the removal of OrangeII (AO7) from aqueous solutions. Batch experiments were performed as a function of different experimental parameters such as initial pH, reaction time, feather dose, initial OrangeII concentration and temperature. The highest OrangeII uptake was observed at pH 1.0. Most of the OrangeII was adsorbed at 2 h and an adsorption equilibrium was reached at 6 h. As the amount of chicken feather was increased, the removal efficiency of OrangeII increased up to 99%, but its uptake decreased. By increasing the initial concentration and temperature, OrangeII uptake was increased. The experimental adsorption isotherm exhibited a better fit with the Langmuir isotherm than with the Freundlich isotherm, and maximum adsorption capacity from the Langmuir constant was determined to be 0.179244 mmol/g at $30^{\circ}C$. The adsorption energy obtained from the Dubinin-Radushkevich model was 7.9 kJ/mol at $20^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$ which indicates the predominance of physical adsorption. Thermodynamic parameters such as ${\Delta}G^0$, ${\Delta}H^0$, and ${\Delta}S^0$ were -12.28 kJ/mol, 20.64 kJ/mol and 112.32 J/mol K at $30^{\circ}C$, respectively. This indicates that the process of OrangeII adsorption by chicken feathers was spontaneous and endothermic. Our results suggest that as a low-cost biomaterials, chicken feather is an attractive candidate for OrangeII removal from aqueous solutions.

  • Stepwise reductions of glucose and Orange II concentration were observed from the experiment of both white-rot fungi such as T. versicolor and P. chrysosporium. As a result, typical removal patterns in those dual substrate system were categorized through several distinctive steps: initial lag period, primary and secondary carbon consumption periods. Also, based on the total removal amounts of Orange II, COD and Color during the experimental period, similar removal extent were observed from both species experiments, within the maximal error range of 5%. However, it was refereed that the internal steps of Orange II removal on enzymatic level should be different between two species: Enzyme Lac showed good affinity for Orange II removal in T. versicolor, however in P. chrysosporium enzyme LiP represented more close affinity to the similar experimental condition. Thus, even though the superficial removal amount of calcitrant Orange II at different fungal species was merely similar, removal pathway of enzymatic levels and intermediates produced during the fungal decomposition would be different.

  • Loess, a natural clay, was evaluated as an adsorbent for the decolorization of Acid Orange II, an azo and reactive dye, from aqueous solution. Adsorption studies were performed at $30^{\circ}C$ and the effect of reaction time, loess dosage, initial concentration, loess particle size, pH, agitation rate were investigated to determine the optimum operation conditions. The removal efficiencies of color were measured to evaluate the effectiveness of loess. From this study, it was found that optimal reaction time was 10 min. Color removal efficiencies of Acid Orange II were increased as higher loess dosage, initial concentration and agitation rate. However, color removal efficiencies decreased when pH is high and loess particle becomes large. Adsorption of Acid Orange II fitted to the pseudo-second-order rate kinetics more than first-order rate kinetics. Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm constants and correlation coefficients were calculated and compared. It was concluded that the adsorption data of Acid Orange II onto loess fitted to the Freundlich model more than Langmuir model.

  • In this study, MoS2 nanoparticles were synthesized and analyzed through powder X-ray diffraction, Raman, ultraviolet-visible, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies. The surface morphologies of the as-synthesized MoS2 nanoparticles were investigated through scanning and transmission electron microscopies. The sonocatalytic activity of the MoS2 nanoparticles toward Orange II removal was evaluated by utilizing a Box-Behnken design for response surface methodology in the experimental design. The sonocatalyst dosage, Orange II dye concentration, and ultrasound treatment time were optimized to be 0.49 g/L, 5 mg/L, and 150 min, respectively. The maximum efficiency of Orange II degradation on MoS2 nanoparticles was achieved, with a final average value of 82.93%. Further, the results of a kinetics study on sonocatalytic Orange II degradation demonstrated that the process fits well with a pseudo-first-order kinetic model.

  • The equilibrium sorption of Orange II by silk fibroin in the range of 50$^{\circ}$, 70$^{\circ}$, 90$^{\circ}C$ and to pH 1.5, 2.2, and 4.0 have been discussed in the light of the dual sorption. Langmuir sorption constant K$\_$L/ and partition coefficient K$\_$P/ were decreased with the increase of the temperature and the pH for the dyeing of silk fibroin with Orange II. Positive values for adsorption entropy were observed. It was found that the values of $\Delta$H$^{\circ}$ is negative for dyeing conditions, and the dyestuff/fibre reaction is therefore exothermic.refore exothermic.

  • Nitrocellulose [NC]-Poly(vinylamine) [PVAm] blended membranes with the change of amino group contents were prepared. The sorption and permeation of a mono-sulfonic acid dye, Orange II, in the membranes were investigated by the steady-state permeation method at $50^{\circ}C$ and pH 2.2. The results were discussed in the framework of dual sorption and diffusion theory. It was found that thesorption isotherms comprise a partition and two Langmuir type adsorption having similar binding constants. One of the latter sorption modes is due to unknown adsorption sites in NC and the other is due to the amino groups in PVAm. Apparent diffusion coefficients for collective P and L dye species, $D_P\; and D_L$, were obtained. Interpretation of $D_P$ values leads to two modes of partitions; one is such that dye is immobilized in NC and the other is the dissolution of the dye into the internal water phase.

  • Polyketides are an extensive class of secondary metabolites with diverse molecular structures and biological activities. A plasmid-based minimal polyketide synthase (PKS) expression cassette was constructed using a subset of actinorhodin (act) biosynthetic genes (actI-orfl, actI-orf2, actI-orf3, actIII, actⅦ, and actIV) from Streptomyces coelicolor, which specify the construction of an orange-fluorescent anthraquinone product aloesaponarin II, a type II polyketide compound derived from one acetyl coenzyme A and 7 malonyl coenzyme A extender units. This system was designed as an indicator pathway in S. parvulus to generate a hybrid type II polyketide compound via gene-specific replacement. The act ${\beta}-ketoacyl$ synthase unit (actI-orfl and actI-orf2) in the expression cassette was specifically replaced with oxytetracycline ${\beta}-ketoacyl$ synthase otcY-orfl and otcY-orf2). This plasmid-based hybrid PKS cassette generated a novel orange-fluorescent compound structurally different from aloesaponarin II in both S. lividans and S. parvulus. In addition, several additional distinctive blue-fluorescent compounds were detected, when this hybrid PKS cassette was expressed in S. coelicolor B78 (actI-orf2 mutant), implying that the expression of plasmid-based hybrid PKS cassette in Streptomyces species should be an efficient way of generating hybrid type II polyketide compounds.
