  • Administration of 3 type KGCs [recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF)] to mice with cyclophosphamide (CPA)-induced neutropenia for 4 consecutive days from the day after the CPA dosing (100 mg/kg) resulted in a dose dependent increase in the peripheral blood neutrophil count 6 hours after the final KGC injection. Within the KGC dose range of 0.1 to 40$\mu$g Per mouse Per day, there was a sigmoidal relationship between the logarithm of the dose and the peripheral blood neutrophil count (relative value for neutrophil count of the basal dose) in the treated mice. The sigmoidal relationship of test KGC preparations shows that there is a saturation point in terms of efficacy. Compared with e(fact of KGC-Orange, Green, and Blue, KGC-Orange recovers neutrophils more effectively than the others do.

  • 'Honghwa' an Asiatic hybrid lily was released in 2001 at National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI), Rural Development Administration (RDA), and Suwon, Korea. The cross was made in 1994 between Lilium Asiatic 'Avignon', a scarlet red colored, and L. Asiatic 'Connecticut King', bright yellow colored. It was preliminarily selected as 'A96-3' in 1996. Multiplication and bulbing, and characteristic tests were performed from 1997 to 2000. The evaluation of characteristics was made investigated as 'Wongyo C1-31' in 2001 at Suwon. 'Honghwa' flowers at the beginning of June and grows to 111.4 cm stem length. Flowers are upward-facing, unspotted with orange petals. Year-round flowering is possible by storing the bulb at $-1.5^{\circ}C$ conditions. It is necessary to add calcium to the fertilizer or remove side scales to prevent leaf scorch. It is needed to control Botrytis disease during wet season.

  • The thermal Conductivities along the position of spherical shaped fruits, such as, apple, mandarine orange. citrus hagyul were predicted by the analysis of the cooling curves obtained by the hydrocooling procedure using ice water. The thermal conductivity was independent of temperature. The thermal conductivities along the position of the fruits were nearly constant, but their small deviations were inherited by the improper spherical shape and the heterogenous structural composition of the fruits. The thermal conductivities of apple, mandarine orange, and citrus hagyul were found to be 0.353, 0.430, and $0.397\;Kcal/mh^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • This study evaluated the effects of low-dose X-ray irradiation treatment on quality characteristics and sensory evaluation of imported navel oranges during storage at $3^{\circ}C$ for 45 days. The samples were irradiated at doses of 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0 kGy, and changes in their color value, hardness, Brix/acid ratio, total sugar content, reducing sugar content, vitamin C contents, and sensory evaluation were investigated. There was no significant increase or decrease in Brix/acid ratio, total sugar content, reducing sugar content, or vitamin C content between the non-irradiated and irradiated samples. Color value of orange peels decreased with increasing levels of irradiation treatment. Color b value of orange pulp increased with an increase in irradiation dose. Difference in hardness between the non-irradiated and irradiated samples decreased at the end of storage. For the sensory evaluation after 30 days, sweetness and overall acceptability of irradiated samples at more than 0.6 kGy were low. These results suggest that X-ray irradiation under 0.6 kGy does not affect quality characteristics and sensory evaluation.

  • Changes in fruit quality and some components of Unshiu orange(Citrus Unshiu Marc. Hayashi) stored at $2^{\circ}C$ in air or a controlled atmosphere(CA, $O_2$ 10%, $CO_2$ 2%) for 111 days were studied. The incidence of rot fruits was higher in air(12.7%) than in CA condition(3.9%). The appearance of the fruits was better in CA condition than in air. There was no significant difference in the weight loss of whole fruits between both storage conditions. The ratio of the flesh weight In whole fruits under CA condition was slightly lower than those in air until 62 days of storage, while it showed no rapid decrease in the later period of storage. Under both storage conditions, the Brix in the flesh increased in the early Period of storage and then decreased slowly, while the free acid contents decreased gradually during storage. In comparison with the fruits stored in air, those under CA condition showed lower total sugar content. The sugar in the flesh of the fruits is composed of sucrose, fructose and glucose. The content of total sugar as well as each sugar showed no distinct difference under both storage conditions. In the flesh of the fruits, citric acid comprised about 90% of the organic acid and malic acid the second abundant acid. During storage, the contents of citric, malic and oxalic acid decreased. Significant difference in the decreasing rate of total organic acid between both stnrage conditions was not found. From the above results, it might be considered that CA could be applied lot the storage of Unshiu orange grown on Cheju

  • The present research was undertaken to investigate the activity of ligninolytic enzymes and the decolorization capability of some dyes with Irpex zonatus BN2, isolated from nature and identified. For the assay of enzyme activities, the isolate did not produce lignin peroxidase (LiP) and veratryl alcohol oxidase (VAO), but laccase and manganese dependent peroxidase (MnP). While the activity for MnP was low $(61.6\;nmol/mg{\cdot}protein)$, its laccase activity was very high $(1185.9\;nmol/mg{\cdot}protein)$. Moreover, laccase had appeared earlier than MnP. When the isolate was incubated with each dye for 10 days, the decolorization rates of azo dyes, such as orange II, orange G, tropaeolin O and congo red were 98.0%, 97.4%, 99.0% and 95.3%, respectively. In case of heterocyclic dyes, eosin Y, toludine blue, methyl blue and azur B were 97.4 %, 98.7%, 99.9% and 94.0% respectively. Finally the results of triphenylmethane dye such as basic fuchsin, malachite green and crystal violet were 98.5%, 95.7% and 99.4%, respectively. The results suggest that laccase of Irpex zonatus BN2 should be played an important role in the decolorization of the dyes.

  • In this paper the effect of temperature on the electrical properties of organic semiconductor disperse orange dye 25 (OD) have been examined. Thin films of OD have been deposited on $In_{2}O_{3}$ substrates using a centrifugal machine. DC current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of the fabricated devices $(Al/OD/In_{2}O_{3)$ have been evaluated at varying temperatures ranging from 40 to $60^{\circ}C$. A rectification behavior in these devices has been observed such that the rectifying ratio increases as a function of temperature. I-V characteristics observed in $Al/OD/In_{2}O_{3)$ devices have been classified as low temperature $({\leq} 50^{\circ}C)$ and high temperature characteristics (approximately $60^{\circ}C$). Low temperature characteristics have been explained on the basis of the charge transport mechanism associated with free carriers available in OD, whereas high temperature characteristics have been explained on the basis of the trapped space-charge-limited current. Different electrical parameters such as traps factor, free carrier density, trapped carrier density, trap density of states, and effective mobility have been determined from the observed temperature dependent I-V characteristics. It has been shown that the traps factor, effective mobility, and free carrier density increase with increasing values of temperature, whilst no significant change has been observed in the trap density of states.
