Objectives : A survey was conducted to investigate oral health belief and education awareness of oral health of workers in the workplace and to obtain the basic data necessary to promote their oral health and design an oral health education program. Methods : This study conducted a self-administered survey. Results : The following conclusion was made. For oral health beliefs based on the type of work that the workers did, workers in production and technical services had more benefits than those in other fields(security, guard, etc.), and workers on night duty had more oral health hygiene problems than that of regular day-time workers. The longer the period of service was, the more sensitive and serious the workers were and the less beneficial the work was; workers working for eight hours or less had higher levels of importance than those working for ten hours. They were well aware of the need for oral health education but were less aware of the need for an oral health room. Conclusions : It is necessary to emphasize oral health beliefs when developing an oral health education program that promotes oral health for workers in the workplace. If an oral health education program attempts to reflect the concerns of workers in the workplace and provides preferred contents and methods on oral health education, the program is expected to promote the active and positive participation of the workers.

This study aimed to examine the relation between subjective oral hygiene status of the elderly and oral health impact profile and to present it as basic data for the improvement of quality of life and oral care. The study subjects were 231 elderly people aged 65 and over. This study measured the oral health behavior and subjective oral hygiene status based on cross analysis by calculating the median of OHIP-14 to divide the above-median group into a subgroup and the below-median group into a superordinate group. Correlation and regression analyses were performed to examine the effects on the oral health impact profile. The oral health impact profile according to oral health behaviors was not significant. The oral health impact profile based on the subjective oral hygiene states is currently affected by oral hygiene status, masticatory problems, toothache, xerostomia and halitosis. As a result of regression analysis to confirm the effect on the oral health impact profile, much experience of masticatory problems, toothache, xerostomia and gum diseases is the most influential. This shows that the subjective oral hygiene status is not healthy as the oral health impact profile is high. It is considered necessary to establish an oral health promotion program to improve the quality of life of the elderly and active oral care methods in the future.

Patients with severe mental problems have difficulty maintaining good oral hygiene, so that the incidence of dental disease is greater, the disease is more severe, and the progression is much faster in these patients. Generally, they require physical restraint, drug-induced sedation, and general anesthesia since they are not cooperative. In many cases, these patients have systemic disease, so that the prognosis after dental treatment depends highly on the management of existing diseases. The problems related to treating these patients are examined and methods of using general anesthesia and sedatives are further examined to propose better ways of treating these patients.
This study was conducted to identify the oral function problems of workers according to Korean Standard Classification of Occupations (KSCO) and to provide evidentiary material to promote them to revise the Occupational Safety and Health Act so that workers can benefit from the collective oral healthcare project. For the research materials, it was used the 7th raw data (1st and 2nd) of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. It was examined the problems of chewing and speaking for the workers over 19 years old by KSCO. The connection between the types of workers and the problems of chewing and speaking has been confirmed (p<0.05). In order to improve the workers' oral healthcare, the collective oral healthcare project should be implemented. Background: The elderly in long-term care facilities tend to have a diminished oral health status, with a high prevalence of dental caries and periodontal disease, as reduced cognitive function, joint mobility, and gait ability hinder the performance of oral hygiene. To improve the oral health of the elderly at long-term care facilities, it is necessary to have precise guidelines for oral health care and assessment; however, such guidelines are not readily available. Therefore, the present study aimed to develop an oral care assessment tool with verified reliability and validity. Methods: The participants in this study were 100 elderly patients at a care facilities and 10 clinical dental hygienists. Collected data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics, content validity index, and inter-rater reliability, as well as the analyses of intra-class correlation coefficient. Results: After a review of relevant literature, a preliminary questionnaire comprised of seven questions related to the evaluation of oral health was formed. After revising and supplementing the questions through a content validity test, a total of nine questions were selected. Conclusion: The novel assessment tool developed for the present study is anticipated to allow analyses of the level of problems related to oral health care before routine and professional care. Moreover, regular oral health status check-ups will enable the early diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine whether the subjective oral health awareness and oral health behavior of Korean adults would affect their oral health indexes. It's meant to utilize existing data of epidemiological and alternative indexes in an effort to have a comprehensive and understanding of the relationship between the subjective oral health awareness and oral health behavior of Korean adults. And the following findings were obtained Methods : The subjects in this study were 7,285 adults who were selected from the third-year(2009) raw data of the fourth national health & nutrition survey. Results : As for the relationship between oral health awareness and oral health indexes, there were statistically significant differences in DMFT index, FS-T index, T-health index and CPI index according to self-rated health status, self-rated oral health state, necessity of dental treatment and oral health concern. Concerning the relationship between oral health behavior and the oral health indexes, whether they got a dental checkup over the past year, daily toothbrushing frequency, use or nonuse of oral health supplies and mastication problems made statistically significant differences to DMFT index, FS-T index, T-health index and CPI index. The variables that had a significant impact on oral health were selected from among the variables of oral health awareness and oral health behavior that affected oral health, and the variables were selected as independent variables. And then the oral health indexes were selected as dependent variables, and a multiple regression analysis was carried out by using the selected independent and dependent variables. As a results, it's found that the variables made a 22.4% prediction of DMFT index; 51.3% for FS-T index; 52.0% for T-health index; 47.4% for CPI index. Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings illustrated that the relationship between the subjective oral health awareness and oral health behavior of the Korean adults exercised an influence on their oral health indexes. Accurate and effective oral health plans should be mapped out by grasping the oral health status of adults from diverse angles to facilitate the maintenance and promotion of their oral health status.
The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of depression on chewing problems and the importance of oral aids through a point-in-time analysis. The data are the 4th(2008, 2nd year) and the 7th(2018, 3rd year) of the National Health and Nutrition Survey. The analysis method was frequency analysis and regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 24.0 program. Studies have shown that depression has affected chewing problems(p<.001). Chronic diseases and the use of oral aids affected the chewing problem. The prevalence and treatment of depression affected the chewing problems(p<.001). In addition, private health insurance coverage increased in 2018 compared to 2008. In the future, the comparative studies considering various subjects and chronic diseases, the educational methods for the use of oral aids are needed.
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of oral health education experience on needs for oral health education in children and adolescents in elementary and secondary schools. A self-administered survey was conducted on the students in elementary, middle and high schools located in the city of Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, from October 1 to 31, 2018. The data that were collected from 327 students were analyzed by SPSS 21.0. Statistical data on frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were obtained, and t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis and logistic regression analysis were carried out. The findings of the study were as follows: First, the subjects got 2.25 on a three-point scale in self-rated oral health status. This score was above average, which indicated that the students thought they were in good oral health. As for problems with oral health, dental caries was given the highest score of 2.48 on a five-point scale, followed by oral malodor with 2.35. Second, the students who experienced oral health education accounted for 69.1 percent, and the students who felt the need for this education represented 82.6 percent. As for educational content desired, the biggest group of 57.8 percent hoped to learn about how to prevent and manage dental caries, and the second largest group of 17 percent wanted to learn about how to take care of oral health during orthodontic treatment. Third, as a result of investigating the state of oral health education by the grade of school, the elementary school students had more oral health education experience than the middle and high school students, and the middle school students placed the most importance on the necessity of oral health education. The differences were statistically significant. Fourth, as a result of analyzing the correlation between oral health education experience and the necessity of oral health education, the students who had more oral health education experience asked more for this education, which implies that there was a statistically significant positive correlation. The findings of the study ascertained that oral health education should be provided for students in childhood and adolescence to boost the level of their oral health knowledge and change their oral health attitude in a positive manner. If oral health practice programs that connect schools, local communities and families with one another are developed to guide the oral health behaviors of teenagers in the right direction, it will make a contribution to the promotion of oral health.
