Objectives: To provide necessary information for stable establishment of the national dental scaling reimbursement system. Methods: This study was conducted in 380 adults in their twenties or older for about one month from July 2017. The questionnaires were composed of general characteristics, recognition (awareness) of dental scaling, knowledge of the dental scaling reimbursement program, changes in perception before versus after introduction of the dental scaling reimbursement program, and interest in oral health. To investigate into any factors affecting changes of interest in oral health care after introduction of the dental scaling reimbursement program, a multiple regression analysis was performed. Results: The investigation into any factors affecting changes of interest in oral health care after introduction of the dental scaling reimbursement program showed that higher usual interest in oral health (p<0.001) and the consideration that the dental scaling charges have been affordable after introduction of the scaling reimbursement program (p<0.01) led to more changes in interest in oral health care. Conclusions: The above-mentioned results suggest that the dental scaling reimbursement program has brought favorable changes in the perception of dental scaling. It is expected that the said program will contribute significantly to the improved national oral health, and the Government should make constant efforts to develop it as a long-term policy for oral health improvement.
There are two purposes in this study. The first one is to collect some oral health information through the investigations upon the oral health care of Korean adults. Referring to the result of the investigation. I wanted to furnish fundamental data with oral health education for each age and with a publicity booklet editing. That is the second purpose of this research. Among the people who visited Seo-gu Public Health Center in Kwang-ju, 207 people answered the questionnaires. There were 86 men and 121 women from the 20-aged to the 59- aged. The questionnaires covers knowledge aquisition path for dental caries prevention, the cognition degrees for the causes of dental caries and its prevention, the cognition degrees for the causes of periodontal disease and its prevention, the degrees for oral health methods, and the importance of oral health. The conclusions are as follows; 1. The cognition degree for dental caries prevention: The cognition for pit and fissure sealant was appeared most highly in thirties by 85.3%. but 62.1 % in fifties was answered, "Never heard". The cognition degree for fluoride application was appeared most highly in thirties by 73.5%. and the cognition degree for water fluoridation was most highly in forties by 54.2%. 2. The knowledge for pit and fissure sealant was acquired mostly through dental hospital in every age by 54.2%. 3. The knowledge for fluoride application was learned mostly through dental hospitals in twenties and thirties by 32.7%. and mostly through TV or radio health programs in forties and fiftieseach by 35.7% and 50.0%. 4. The knowledge for water fluoridation was acquired through TV or radio programs in all ages such as twenties. thirties. forties and fifties. Its rate was 57.8%. 5. The cognition degree of the cause of dental caries: 53.1 % of all ages think that dental caries can most frequently be caused by being lack of toothbrushing. 6. The cognition degree of the cause of periodontal disease: 58.5% people of all ages think that both dental plaque and calculus might be the main cause of periodontal disease. 7. The cognition degree of dental caries prevention: 72.8% people think that dental caries can be prevented by right tooth brushing method. and 8.7% people think that they can be prevented by scaling. However, 10.7% people of them were not interested in dental caries prevention. 8. The importance of oral health: 35.3% people think that teeth health is the most important, and 63.8% people think oral health is one of the most important health problems. Forties answered that tooth health was the most important thing, and fifties. thirties and twenties followed in the order. 9. The cognition for oral health maintenance: all ages(twenties. thirties. forties. and fifties) answered that right toothbrushing method was the best way to keep oral health by 69.1%.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the current status of oral health applications developed for smartphones because they can be used as a new educational medium to manage and improve oral health. Methods: This study examined 60 basic oral health applications provided by Google Play Store and Apple App Store as of May 2019 and examined delivery contents, delivery methods, application types, and other information. Results: Apple included 65.4% of oral apps in the game category whereas Android included 64.3% in the education category (p>0.05). All Apple's apps and 71.4% of Android apps were developed overseas (p<0.01). The delivery contents were 61.5% for Brushing + tooth decay in Apple, and 78.6% for others (oral care products and gum diseases) in Android (p>0.05). For the delivery method, game + video was 65.4% in Apple, and game and other methods (text, image, augmented reality) was 42.9% in Android (p>0.05). In the case of application type, play type was the most common with 88.5% in Apple, and 46.4% play type and 39.3% other type (text, appreciation, problem-solving types) in Android (p<0.01). In addition, play type was high in both education (53.8%) and game (90.0%) categories (p>0.05). The average review score was 4.30 in the education category, 4.34 in the case of brushing and care (delivery contents), 4.37 in the case of using game + video (delivery methods), and 4.57 in the case of Play + other types (application type) (p>0.05). Conclusions: The use of healthcare apps is expected to increase owing to improved lifestyles, an increase in the elderly population, cost-effectiveness, and convenience that is not affected by time and place. Effective use of oral health apps will require the participation of dental professionals in the development process to identify the exact status, expand subjects, and provide appropriate information.
This study was conducted to identify the oral health status and management behavior and dental use behavior according to the level of education and income of the elderly, and to present the supporting data to prepare policies and systems for the promotion of elderly oral health. The data survey was conducted on 224 elderly people living in the Daejeon area from August 19, 2019 to October 25, 2019, and the collected data were analyzed by chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. As a result, oral health status and management behavior showed significant differences according to education and income level in denture use, implant use, oral hygiene product use, oral health education experience, and oral health management method. There was a significant difference in dental use behavior according to education and income level, and age, education level, implant use, and the main reasons for dental use were found to be factors affecting dental use. Therefore, it is expected that the quality of life of the elderly's oral health can be improved by preparing an institutional plan at the national that considers education and income level based on this study.
This study was conducted to check the effect of parenting attitudes on oral health behavior on lower grade elementary school students where oral care habits are formed. The subjects of the study were 366 students in the lower grades of elementary school, and the research tools used self-written questionnaires that were modified and supplemented to suit this purpose. Parenting attitudes of parents and lower-grade oral health behavior of elementary school students showed significant amounts of correlation, especially affectionate, autonomous and reasonable parenting attitudes were highly correlated with oral health behaviors(p<0.01). A multiple regression analysis to identify the factors affecting oral health behavior showed that parental attitudes also had a significant effect on the child variables(p<0.01). Therefore, since parenting attitudes are related to children's oral health behaviors, it is believed that measures should be taken to promote oral health education that can be improved by combining them.
Purpose: To compare the effects of the Interaction Model of Client Health Behavior (IMCHB)-based oral health program (OHP) and walking exercise program (WEP) on oral health behaviors, periodontal disease, physical activity, and psychological indicators (depression, stress, and quality of life) in pregnant women. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was adopted to compare the effects of a 12-week OHP and WEP on pregnant women (n=65). Pregnant women were randomly assigned to the oral health group (OHG; n=23), walking exercise group (WEG; n=21), or control group (CG; n=21). Data were analyzed by the ${\chi}^2-test$, Fisher's exact test, Scheffe test, and repeated measures ANOVA, using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences for Windows (version 21.0). Results: The OHG and WEG showed significant improvements in oral health behaviors, periodontal disease, and psychological indicators as compared to the CG. The WEG showed significant improvement in physical activity as compared to the OHG and CG. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the IMCHB-based OHP and WEP were effective in improving periodontal disease, physical activity, and psychological indicators. However, further studies are needed to identify the positive effects of the OHP and WEP on birth outcomes.
