Objectives : This study aimed to research subjective recognition of oral health, oral disease prevention, and knowledge of oral health among high school students to provide basic data necessary to develop an oral health education program for helping them prevent oral diseases and improve oral health in the future. Methods : Respondents' general characteristics and knowledge of oral health were estimated at frequency and percentage, and chi-square $(x^2)$ test was carried out to make a comparison for subjective recognition of oral health and oral disease prevention by general characteristics. ANOVA was used to get scores concerning knowledge of oral health care by general characteristics, and Pearson correlation was used to analyze correlation between recognition of oral health, oral disease prevention, and knowledge of oral health. Results : The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The percentage of those who had visited a dental clinic (hospital) within the previous one year (p<0.01) and had a regular oral examination (p<0.05) was higher in female students than in male ones, and percentage of those who had experienced oral health education (p<0.01) and who had regular oral examination (p<0.001) was highest in 11th graders. The percentage of those who used oral health products (p<0.01) and had pit and fissure sealing (p<0.01) was significantly higher among low-grade students, and the percentage of those who had scaling (p<0.01) was significantly higher among high-grade students. 2. Knowledge of oral health management was higher in female students (12.6) than in male ones (11.2) (p<0.001). Conclusions : A systematic oral health education program is necessary to help high school students improve recognition, prevention, and knowledge concerning oral health care, and continuous attention and efforts must be given to activate continuous oral health care implemented at the elementary level by inducing secondary school students to go on with it.
Objectives: In this study 54,848 people were selected as participants to investigate the relationship between oral health factors and eating habits education experiences of adolescents using raw data from the 17th (2021) online survey on adolescent health behavior. A multi-sample chi-square test was performed on the dietary education experience according to the general characteristics of the subjects. Logistic regression analysis was performed on factors affecting the eating habits education experience. Results: Eating breakfast and consuming fruits was more frequent among eating habits (p<0.001). Regarding factors influencing dietary habits education, in the case of eating habits education experience, sealant was 1.23 times higher (p<0.001), and tingling & throbbing were 0.93 times lower (p<0.01). Conclusions: Educating adolescents on correct eating habits is related to oral health, hence a school based oral health education program related to eating habits is necessary for adolescents.
To prepare basic data for oral health promotion of high school students through the survey of the recognition of oral health care, a questionnaire survey was conducted for 268 students. Statistical analysis was conducted using the SPSS 11.5 with ${\chi}^2$-test, fisher's exact test, t-test and logistic regression. The obtained results were as follows 1. The average of the high school student's oral health knowledge was $13.12{\pm}2.06$. Statistically school girls were higher(pE0.05) than school boy's oral health knowledge(male: 12.91, female: 13.35), tooth brushing frequency(male: 4times or more-15.4%, female: 4times or more-29.8%), and preventive dental visit(male: 8.1%, female: 17.5%). 2. More than 70% of high school students was concerned about oral health. According to the self-judgement of oral health, more than 50% of them was answered that they wasn't sure of oral health. 3. Only 13% of high school students received oral health education and 80% of them recognized oral health manpower's education needs. 4. The logistic regression analysis illustrated that high school student's preventive dental visit was independently associated with the self-judgement of oral health. The odds ratio was 3.0 and statistically significant.
