Purpose: We developed the MYSTERY CIRCLE vision training program which was suitable for Korean people. We compared it with the established programs, Block string and Anaglyphs in aspect of functional, sensory, and symptomatical changes of binocular vision. Mehtods: The vision training observation group included 75 clients (male=40, female=35) who had binocular vision disorders without opthalmic diseases or vertical phoria. Results: According to the results, all training methods showed improvement of binocular vision function, sensation and symptoms. But the Block String had low participation, reference rate of subjects and success rate and showed the different degree of improvement depending on individuals. Anaglyphs method showed high participation and improvement. But it had a low degree of success rate and preference rate. Conclusions: MYSTERY CIRCLE method showed the highest participation, reference rate of subjects, success rate, and high degree of improvement. Therefore we suggest that MYSTERY CIRCLE is an effective and alternative method for binocular vision disorder therapy.
Purpose: To develop a program for analyzing the condition of implanted ICL lenses in case the residual astigmatism appears after the implantation. Methods: From analyzing the measured residual astigmatism after operating ICL lens, we could induce formulas that produce the rotating angle and the corresponding MR prescription of the implanted ICL lens. Using the Delphi 6.0 language, we could develop a program by which we conveniently confirm, in the window screen visually, the rotating angle and the corresponding MR prescription of the implanted ICL lens calculated by these formulas. Results: We induced formulas that produce the rotating angle and the corresponding MR prescription of the implanted ICL lens by analyzing the measured residual astigmatism after operating ICL lens and developed a program which can analyze the condition of the implanted ICL lens. By this program we could easily analyze the condition of the implanted ICL lens. Conclusions: Judging from the results of applying this program to many clinical cases, we could conclude that this program is very effective in analyzing the condition of implanted ICL lenses.
Purpose: To develop the program used in calculating and estimating anamorphic prisms used to construct an anamorphoser. Methods: If there is a program which can show the apex angle and the volume of prism which are decided by the refraction index of anamorphic prisms and the expanding ratio of incident beam, the production of anamorphic prisms can be done accurately. Moreover, it could become a convenient tool to the design and production of whole optical systems using anamorphic prisms. Developing this program, first, we had to induce formulas of prism that decide the apex angle and the arrangement angle of anamorphic prisms with the given refraction index of anamorphic prism and the given expanding ratio of incident beam. Then we programmed them by delphi 6.0 language so that they could be visualized on screen and easily confirmed. Results: We could develop the program used in calculating and estimating anamorphic prisms used to construct an anamorphoser. Conclusions: Judging from the results of applying this developed program to actual business, we could conclude that this program is useful in calculation and production of anamorphic prisms which are used as components of an anamorphoser because this program can offer a lot of accuracy and quickness to producers.
Background: As the importance of the esthetic function of teeth increases, the use of esthetic restoration materials and whitening treatment are increasing. The purpose of this study was to investigate the color change of esthetic restoration materials upon using staining and whitening toothpaste. Methods: Light curing (LC) packable composite resin, LC flowable resin, LC glass ionomer (GI), and self-curing GI specimens were colored in coffee or curry for three hours a day for seven days. After that, regular toothpaste, whitening toothpaste containing hydrogen peroxide, and whitening toothpaste containing activated charcoal were applied for three minutes three times a day for two weeks. Luminosity (L), chromaticity a (a), and chromaticity b (b) were measured using a spectrophotometer once a week. Results: In the coffee-colored group, the change in L2*a2*b2 (E2) with time was significant (p=0.004), there was no difference for different toothpaste types (p=0.646), and there was significant difference (p<0.001) for different esthetic restorative materials. The change of E2 in the curry-colored group was significant only for different esthetic restorative materials (p<0.001). In the coffee-colored group, the L, a, and b values of the light-curing GI showed greater change than other materials after staining and one week after whitening, turning dark, red, and yellow. In the curry-colored group, L did not differ for different materials and times, and a and b showed the greatest difference in light-curing GI after staining and one and two weeks after whitening. Conclusion: The use of whitening toothpaste for two weeks was not different from the use of general toothpaste in the removal of staining or whitening. Since light-curing GI is the most vulnerable to coloration, it is recommended that coloring by food chromogen should be explained in advance, before using light-curing GI for teeth restoration.
Purpose : This study was to investigate the change of accommodative functions by different color density and color of colored lenses. Methods : Participant had a normal NPC and no dyschromatopsia, phoria and eye disease, also had no histories of eye surgery in 31 students of university. Their accommodative functions were measured according to 50%, 80% density of the gray, blue, brown lens and non-colored lenses. Tests of accommodative functions performed include amplitude of accommodation, accommodative facility, relative accommodation, and accommodative lag. Results : The amplitude of accommodation and accommodation lag were increased when wearing the colored lens. Negative relative accommodation was more increased when wearing the colored lens than achromatic. Positive relative accommodation increased when wearing the blue color lens density by 50%. Also, accommodation facility increased when wearing the colored lens, but, as the density of the color increased, the accommodation facility was decreased. Conclusion : As since the accommodation function changes according to density of the colored lenses, working distance and environment of the wearing colored lens should be considered when selecting density and color of colored lenses.
This study researched how the refraction error and illumination influence to contrast sensitivity when we wear the circle contact lenses. The study population comprised 16 students and adults(5 of Male, 11 of Female). The study population comprised 16 students and adults(5 of Male, 11 of Female), We measured the contrast sensitivity on uncorrected vision, according to color of circle contact and change the illumination of laboratory. The contrast sensitivity by illumination decreased than unaided vision when they wore the color contact lenses and more increased mesopic than photopic. Compared between black and brown lenses, brown was higher the contrast sensitivity than black. Also emmetropia had significantly differences when we compared the contrast sensitivity of subjects who had emmetropia, myopia and myopia astigmatism whether refractive error has or not. Therefore, it is important to provide sufficient understanding and recognition of color contact lenses.
This study was classified and compared astigmatism's refractional abnormal degrees with visual acuity state of full correction which turned on axises of only 5 degree, 10 degree, and 15 degree. Subjects of this study were 57 college students (114 eyes) who had neither eye diseases nor binocular abnormality, were from their twenties to fifties, with myopia. It appeared that 30.8% of subjects who had astigmatism wore glasses with wrong axis of astigmatism. After accurate correction of the visual acuity and degrees of astigmatism, when we moved to corrected axises at 5 degree, 10 degree, 15 degree, failure of visual acuity with one line or more were 56.1%, 84.2%, 93.8%, respectively. When we comapre the completely-corrected visual acuity with the visual acuity with dricted axes, the bigger the width of visual acuity's weakness was the bigger the drifted angle. The change of normal visual acuity according to drifting angle of corrected axises of astigmatism, when we compared with full correction, appeared 0.94 in 5 degree, 0.87 in 10 degree, and 0.79 in 15 degree. Drift of 5 degree from fully corrected axis, corresponded to difference of visual acuity about one line, drift of 10 degree to 1.8 line difference of visual acuity, and drift of 15 degree about to 2.6 line difference. Through this study, we were sure that, in the case of drifting away from the right axis of astigmatism, it lead to visual weakness and asthenopia. Therefore we darely advise that optometrists should make mistake of axis least by confirming accucacy of corrected axis after despensing of spectacles of astigmatism.
Purpose: The present study was conducted to investigate the actual condition of circle lens wear and the differences caused by the pigmentation in blinking rate, non-invasive tear break-up time (NIBUT), and lens surface between circle and soft contact lens wear during clinical application. Methods: Eighty subjects were surveyed to know the actual condition of wearing circle lens. Blink rate, NIBUT of 20 subjects in twenties were measured after separately wearing soft contact lens and circle lens for 5 days. Their lens surfaces were also observed by scanning electron microscope. Results: Fifty percent of circle lens wearers answered that major reason for changing circle lens was discomfort and 67% of answerers wore circle lens more than 6 hours a day. The tendency of increased blink rates in both wearers of circle and soft contact lens at 30 minutes later when tear film stabilized and 3 hour after lens wearing was shown on the 1st, 3rd and 5th day with expanding wearing time. Especially at 3 hours after lens wearing on the 3rd and 5th day, the difference of blink rates was statistically different in circle lens wear and soft contact lens wear. The NIBUTs of soft contact lens wearers and circle lens wearers were 6.0 and 3.7 secs, respectively, at 30 min later on 1st day and were significantly different. NIBUTs of soft contact lens wearers and circle lens wearers were also statistically different 3 hrs after lens wearing on the 1st day and the similar pattern of NIBUTs was shown on the 3rd and 5th day. The roughness of both surfaces in soft contact lens and front surface in circle lens was same. However, pigmented front surface of circle lens was rougher and uneven. Conclusions: As the results, the circle lens wearers might feel discomfort in clinical application since the difference in lens surface of circle lens would change lens wettability during wearing. The difference by tinting contact lens was shown from the result, which could help better wearing circle lens.
Purpose: The Nutrient intake during the growth period is a critical factor for the development of the vision. In this study, we have analyzed the nutrient that has a correlation with the decrease of induced visual impairment. In addition, we investigated visual acuity and correlation of the nutrient in the higher-income youth and low-income youth. Methods: We used the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010 document. The Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey didn't show the clear standard of carbohydrates and fats, so we used the data from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety standards with each 330 g, 51 g. In order to compare the correlation of nutrients and refraction, Nutrients has been classified macronutrients(energy, dietary fiber, protein, carbohydrate, fat), fat-soluble vitamins (vitamin A), water-soluble vitamins (vitamin C, riboflavin, niacin), trace minerals (iron), minerals (calcium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium) and water. Results: We investigated the correlation between refraction and nutrients on average about 328 subjects belonging to the high-income group. The fat intake was $54.21{\pm}32.60$ g, and it was about 2~10 times less than the recommended daily intake (112-540 g). Refractive power and fat intake showed a statistically significant correlation (O.D:p=0.033, O.S:p=0.029). We investigated the correlation between refraction and nutrients on average about 309 subjects belonging to the lowincome group. The phosphorus showed higher ingested by the $1118.75{\pm}501.98$ mg, and the sodium showed intake more than three times recommended intake by the $3705.24{\pm}2089.42$ mg. In addition, unlike other macro mineral it showed that was a correlation on the refraction by the 0.031. Conclusions: A broad variety of taking nutrition and good eating habits at the time of growth seems to have an effects to the good growth and vision and the senescence inhibition of vision.ave an effect to the good growth, the good vision and the senescence inhibition of vision.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of improving read speed with color filter or without color filter to improve reading disorder of teenager who were diagnosed as Meares-Irlen syndrome through survey inspection with Meares-Irlen syndrome visual stress (MISViS) score. Methods: MISViS subjects were selected from screening survey MISViS results given above 2.13 in the clinical criteria scores (MISViS score). Reading speed were measured quickly and efficiently the rate of reading via test in which randomly ordered common words are read aloud during a minute. Each of the subjects were worn a filter of the lowest concentration in each color filter group composed of 15 groups. Results: MISViS score of MISViS group and control group were 2.57 and 0.66, respectively. Results of reading speed with filter and without filter in MISViS group were $102.27{\pm}27.86$ wpm and $118.87{\pm}26.99$ wpm (p=0.001), respectively, as well as were $132.93{\pm}6.88$ wpm and $133.43{\pm}6.64$ wpm (p=0.131) in the normal group. Associated with error changes with filter and without filter between two groups, skipping in MISViS Group were from $0.25{\pm}0.62$ times to 0 times (p=0.191), Errors were from $1.83{\pm}1.69$ times to $0.17{\pm}0.38$ times (p = 0.004) and, repetitions were 0. skipping in control group were 0 times, errors were from $0.21{\pm}0.43$ times to $0.07{\pm}0.27$ times (p=0.336) and, repetitions were from $0.14{\pm}0.36$ times to 0 (p=0.165). The filter of blue series chosen in MISViS group had higher percentage (40%), whereas, subjects in normal group were more likely to prefer the filter of gray color (29%). Conclusions: This study showed that MISViS score have been used as a significant diagnosis for Irlen syndrome screening. This study found that wearing suitable color filter for MISViS patients were useful to improve learning with regard to reading. Unique color filter selection for MISViS subjects must be carefully considered since fit color filter are different personally.
