Objective: This study aims to compare the usability of the adaptive touch design method with that of the height adjustable design method that are applied to the Korean QWERTY keyboard and Naratgul keyboard on smartphones, examine the results, and present practical implications. Background: Smartphone manufacturers have failed to satisfy every user with their uniform touch keyboard designs that do not consider the high use rates of keypad use. In reality, touch keyboard designing customized for every individual is impossible, but there need to be researches on was to improve usability by having touch areas changed automatically depending on user behaviors or having users adjust the keyboard height depending on their hand size. Method: As for the design methods, an object group was given smartphones with the adaptive touch design method and the other group those with the height adjustable design method. As they entered the same characters in the smartphones, typing error rates and text input speed were measured and the average values were compared. 35 individuals who would frequently use smartphones in daily life participated in the experiment. The group variable was the type of touch keyboards, and the test variables were typing error rates and text input speed, for which a T-test was implemented. Results: As for the QWERTY keyboard, the significant improvement effect was verified as the typing error rate of the adaptive touch design method was 4.21% but that of the height adjustable design method was 3.28% although there was no significant difference in terms of text input speed. As for the Naratgul keyboard, in contrast, the typing error rate of the adaptive touch design method was 2.5% while that of the height adjustable design method was 1.48%, which indicates a measure of improvement, but the effect was not significant. On the other hand, the text input speed per minute was improved as much as 22.2%, which is significant. Conclusion: First, the Korean touch keyboard usability of the adaptive touch design method and that of the height adjustable design method, when applied to Model A of Company L, showed significant difference from each other. Second, the height adjustable design method was applied to the QWERTY keyboard, the typing error rate was improved significantly. This indicates that as the keyboard height was raised, the number of buttons within the range of fingering decreased, decreasing the touch bias was reduced. Third, the height adjustable design method was applied to the Naratgul keyboard, the text input speed was improved. Application: When the QWERTY keyboard was applied to a smartphone as small as 5.5inch or less, it is highly probably that the height adjustable design method decreases the typing error rate. It may be considered to develop additional UX functions to make the keyboard font larger or give users the option to adjust button intervals in utilization of the SW advantages of the height adjustable design method.

Experiments on carbonization were conducted using fish offal generated from fish market for the purpose of resource recycling. Elemental composition of fish offal and effect of carbonation temperature on the overall yield were investigated. Carbon and hydrogen contents of fish offal were 51.1% and 7.6%, respectively in view of elemental composition. Particularly, nitrogen and sulfur contents were as high as 9.8% and 1.0%, respectively. These values suggests that odor problem of fish offal can be serious. Comparing elemental composition of fish offal with other waste materials, it is thought that carbon and hydrogen contents are considerably high. These implies that thermal disposal will be the best option for final disposal method of fish offal. As a results of carbonization experiments on Mackerel, Hairtail, Croaker and mixed sample of Mackerel, Hairtail and Croaker, carbonization patterns were quite similar irrespective of fish species. Carbonization yield was varied significantly depending on carbonization temperature at the carbonization time of 5 minutes and 10 minutes. When the carbonization time was maintained longer than 30 minutes, yield variation depending on time variation at each temperature was insignificant. Thus, it can be concluded that effect of carbonization time on overall yield was minor when the carbonization time was maintained longer than 30 minutes. Primary vaporization in carbonization conducted at the temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ was minor. Thus, difference of yield between temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$ was appeared greatly. It can be concluded that yield difference depending on carbonization temperature can be neglected if the carbonizing temperature exceed $600^{\circ}C$ and carbonizing time exceed 10 minutes at the same time.
The sequences of the cytoplasmic 5S rRNAs(EMBL accession number X73589 and X73890) from two polupores, Ganoderma applanatum and Schizopora paradoxa, were determined by the direct chemical method for sequencing RNA and compared to the sequences of 9 reported mushrooms. 5S rRNAs of Ganoderma applanatum and Schizopora paradoxa consisted of 118 bases and fit the secondary structure model of the 5S rRNAs of basidiomycetes proposed by Huysmans et al. Based on Kimura’s K_nuc values, the closest fungus to Ganoderma applanatum was Ceratobasidium cornigerum and the one to Schizopora paradoxa was Bjerkandera adusta. When the secondary structures of 5S rRNAs of 11 mushrooms were compared the base substitution occurred at helix regions more than at loop regions. When a phylogenetic tree was constructed using the Neighbor program of the PHYLIP package, it partially discriminated and separated the mushrooms of the Hymenomycetes by the order.
In electronic catalogs, each item is represented as an independent unit while the parts of the item can be composed of a higher level of functionality. Thus, the search for this kind of product database is limited to the retrieval of most similar standard commodities. However, many industrial products need to configure optional parts to fulfill the required specifications. Since there are many paths in finding the required specifications, we need to develop a search system via the configuration process. In this system, we adopt a two-phased approach. The first phase finds the most similar template, and the second phase adjusts the template specifications toward the required set of specifications by the Constraint and Rule Satisfaction Problem approach. There is no guarantee that the most similar template can find the most desirable configuration. The search system needs backtracking capability, so the search can stop at a satisfied local optimal satisfaction. This framework is applied to the configuration of computers and peripherals. Template-based reasoning is basically the same as case-based reasoning. The required set of specifications is represented by a list of criteria, and matched with the product specifications to find the closest ones. To measure the distance, we develop a thesaurus of values, which can identify the meaning of numbers, symbols, and words. With this configuration, the performance of the search by configuration algorithm is evaluated in terms of feasibility and admissibility.
An experiment was conducted to investigate the differences of total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) excretion rates and feces production rates among the offsprings from cultured Japanese strain (JJ, mean BW; $17.1{\pm}0.1g$), intraspecific hybrid strain between cultured Japanese and selected Korean strain (JK, mean BW: $17.1{\pm}0.1g$) and selected Korean strain(KK, mean BW: $21.5{\pm}0.1g$) of red sea bream in order to compare their dietary protein utilization efficiency. Fish were hand-fed with a commercial diet containing 46.7% crude protein for 2 weeks, three times daily 09:00, 13:00 and 17:00. After daily feeding, the TAN excretion rates reached peaks of 49.03, 58.75 and 36.26mg/kg fish/hr for the JJ, JK and KK strain, respectively, during the daytime. The value of the KK strain was significantly lower than that of the JJ and JX shuin (P<0.05), however daily TAN excretion rates of the JJ, JK and KK strain were not different (P>0.05). When fish were fed at satiation after 4 days of starvation, TAN excretion rates reached the maximum values 4 hours after the feeding fur the KK (31.23 mg/kg fish/hr) and 6 hours after the feeding fur the JJ (44.19 mg/tg fish/hr) and JK strain (41.70 mg/kg fish/hr). After 3 days of starvation, the daily endogenous TAU excretion rates (ETE) for the JJ, JK. and KK strain were 286.91, 215.66 and 179.29mg/kg fish/day, respectively. The value of the KK strain was lower than that of the JJ and JK strain (P<0.05). The total feces production rates of the JJ, JK and KK strain were not significantly different, however the proportions of feces production rates by time for the JJ, JK and KK strain were different (P<0.05). As overall results, efficiency of dietary protein utilization of JJ, JK and KK seems to be different and KK strain could offer a desirable option for aquaculture purpose.
A geological repository has been considered as an option for the disposal of high-level radioactive waste (HLW). The HLW is disposed in a host rock at a depth of 500~1,000 meters below the ground surface based on the concept of engineered barrier system (EBS). The EBS is composed of a disposal canister, buffer material, backfill material, and gap-filling material. The compacted bentonite buffer is very important since it can restrain the release of radionuclide and protect the canister from the inflow of ground water. The saturation of the buffer decreases because high temperature in a disposal canister is released into the surrounding buffer material, but saturation of the buffer increases because of the inflow of ground water. The unsaturated properties of the buffer are critical input parameters for the entire safety assessment of the engineered barrier system. In Korea, Gyeongju bentonite can be considered as a candidate buffer material, but there are few test results of the unsaturated properties considering temperature variation. Therefore, this paper conducted experiment of soil-water characteristic curve for the Gyeongju compacted bentonite considering temperature variation under a constant water content condition. The relative error showed approximately 2% between test results and modified van-Genuchten model values.
Potentials of AR CDM project in North Korea are assessed and feasible land area for AR CDM project is estimated. According to our estimation, There could be 515,000 hectares of forest lands deforested before 1990 in North Korea and 8,854 hectares at the regional level of Gae-sung City, which are eligible for AR CDM project, based on researches of satellite image analyses conducted from 1980's to 1990's. A baseline scenario assumed 44.73 tones of carbon stored in soil per hectare with no vegetation above ground remained during the project period following the default value of IPCC's Good Practice Guidance for LULUCF considering soil structure, climate and land use of the project area. The scenario also assumes that black rocust (Robinia pseudoacacia) is planted and the CDM project is implemented for 20 years. The costs for producing greenhouse gases CER (certified emission reduction) credits include costs of tree planting and forest management, and costs of project negotiation and transactions for issuing the credits. It is estimated that 376 tones of carbon dioxide per hectare can be accumulated and 503 temporary CER credits per hectare and 265 long-term CER credits per hectare could be produced during the project period. It is estimated to cost US$ 4.04 and US$ 7.67 to provide one unit of temporary credit and long-term credit, respectively. These values can be regarded as the cost of conferring emission commitment of a country or a private entity. However, it is not clear which option is better economically because the replacement periods are different in these two cases.
Three anticncer agents which are different in time or dosage dependence as well as in phase specificity, namely mitomycin and adriamycin from natural products, and widely different cancer cell lines_Four epidermoid carcinomas originated from larynx, cervix, skin and gut were used toghether with one osteosarcoma as the target cell of single and combined administration of anticancer drugs. Semiautomated tetrazolium dye assay(MTT) appears to offer an attractive option for chemosensitivity of head and neck cancers since it is a simple, valid and inexpensive method of assessing chemosensitivity for large samples in a short time. The results obtained form this study were as follows. 1. Good correlations were obtained with the results of the MTT test and those of $^3H$ thymidine uptake assay. 2. $LD_{50}$ values of HIST and St.Ca. which showed relatively high doubling time on adriamycin were $30{\mu}g/ml$ and $15{\mu}g/ml$ while those of HeLa, Hep-2 and KHOS/NP were $2.1{\mu}g/ml$, $4.8{\mu}g/ml$, and $6.8{\mu}g/ml$ respectively. 3. The $LD_{50}$ value of 5-FU on five cancer cells were very high ranging from 15mg/ml to almost indefinite number, which means 5-FU is very resistant to epidermoid carcinomas or osteosarcoma examined in this study. 4. Mitomycin was relatively effective showing 80% cancer killing effect on HeLa, 70% on St. Ca. and 50% on Hep-2 at the high concentrations used. 5. Adriamycin was the most effective showing 90% cancer cell killing effect on KHOS/NP, 98% on HeLa, 80% both on Hep-2 and St. Ca. The least susceptible cancer cells toward adriamycin was HIST having only 55% cell killing effect at the high cincentration. 6. Combined therapy of adriamycin and 5-FU was more effective than single administration in all the cases examined. Most effective synergism was observed on St. Ca. at the low concentration, showing 21 times higher than each single administration.
This study investigated the effect of plant oil emulsion as a replacement for animal fat on the quality characteristics of low-fat pork patties. Pork patties were manufactured using a pork fat control (CON) and olive (OPP), soybean (SPP), and canola (CPP) oil emulsions. Replacing animal fat with the plant oil emulsions increased the moisture content and decreased the fat content of the patties as compared to those with pork fat. The water holding capacity and cooking yield, and the moisture and fat retention of the patties were significantly increased, and the diameter reduction and shrinkage ratio decreased with the plant oil replacements. The color parameters of the samples were affected by the addition of the plant oil emulsions, and higher L* and a* values were observed in CON. The b* value of the raw pork patty was highest in OPP, and palmitic acid was the most abundant saturated fatty acid. In terms of unsaturated fatty acids, oleic acid was highest in CON, OPP, and CPP, and linoleic acid was highest in SPP. Hardness, cohesion, and chewiness were no different among the samples, although higher springiness was observed in the pork patties with added plant oil emulsions. The taste, flavor, and palatability of the OPP and CPP patties were higher than in the CON and SPP groups. Fat replacement with plant oil emulsion therefore had a positive effect on the quality characteristics of the pork patties, and due to reduced saturated fatty acids, the end-product provides the healthy low-fat option desired by consumers.

Purpose: The authors compared the results of Ender nailing for the proximal humerus fractures with those of the conservative methods radiographically. Materials and Method: Nine patients(mean age: 69 years.) received Ender nailing, and the other nine patients, conservative treatments(mean age: 73 years). All fractures were 2 part fractures. The Ender nails were inserted either through posterior elbow approach or transepicondylar approach. A simple Velpeau bandage was applied to the conservative treatment group. The average follow-up was 15 months. Results: The initial status of the anatomical reduction, i.e., the values of the medial shift, overlapping and the varus agulation, were little changed at follow-up radiographs in both the Ender nailing group and the conservative treatment group. There was no significant difference for the status of anatomical reduction between the Ender nailing group and the conservative treatment group. The stability of fixation by Ender nails, i.e., the degree of fanning out of the nails was poor in most cases. Not a few problems/complications happened in cases of Ender nailing group; backing out of the nail in three cases, penetration of the nails into the humeral heads in 3, fractures or cracking of the humerus around the nail insertion area in 4 and reduction loss in one. Conclusion: We could not get better results with the use of Ender nail. We use no longer Ender nails for the proximal humerus fractures. Further studies are needed for the better option for the proximal humerus fractures.
