The optimum steel fiber reinforcement for prestressed concrete containment under internal pressure

  • This paper investigates the optimum fiber reinforcement for prestressed concrete containment vessels (PCCVs) under internal pressure. To achieve this aim, steel fiber, which is the most widely used fiber type in current engineering applications, is adopted to constitute steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) to substitute the conventional concrete in the PCCV. The effects of characteristic parameters, 𝜆sf, of the steel fiber affecting significantly the mechanical behavior of the concrete are first taken into account. Partial or complete concrete regions of the PCCV are also considered to be replaced by SFRC to balance the economy and safety. By adopting the ABAQUS software, the ultimate bearing capacity and performance for the fiber-reinforced PCCV are scientifically studied and quantified, and the recommendations for the optimum way of fiber reinforcement are presented.

Optimum parameters and performance of tuned mass damper-inerter for base-isolated structures

  • The optimum damping and tuning frequency ratio of the tuned mass damper-inerter (TMDI) for the base-isolated structure is obtained using the numerical searching technique under stationary white-noise and filtered white-noise earthquake excitation. The minimization of the isolated structure's mean-square relative displacement and absolute acceleration, as well as the maximization of the energy dissipation index, were chosen as the criteria for optimality. Using a curve-fitting technique, explicit formulae for TMDI damping and tuning frequency for white-noise excitation are then derived. The proposed empirical expressions for TMDI parameters are found to have a negligible error, making them useful for the effective design of base-isolated structures. The effectiveness of TMDI and its optimum parameters are influenced by the soil condition and isolation frequency, according to the comparison made of the optimized parameters and response with different soil profiles. The effectiveness of an optimally designed TMDI in controlling the displacement and acceleration response of the flexible isolated structure under real and pulse-type earthquakes is also observed and found to be increased as the inertance mass ratio increases.

한국의 온도기후와 생물의 계절변화 (The Thermal Climate and Phenology in Korea)

  • The phenological phenomena in terms of year day index (YDI) in South Korea were studied. The YDI was proposed here, because the remainer index such as Nuttonson's index is unadequate for the interpretation on the phenological phenomena of early spring season in sourthern coastal area. The YDI was calculated by summing daily mean temperature of the year days (YD) above physical zero degree in centigrade, based on the data of the Monthly Weather Reports from 1967 to 1980 by the Central Meteorological Office. The pattern of YDI increase with the increase of YD was similar to that of the remainder index such as the Nuttonson's index. The some YDI distribution maps were made by Yim and Kira (1975), dividing into 30'$\times$40' meshes, in latitude and longtude, on the topographical map(1 : 500,000) of the Korea Peninsula. According to the year day of different localities flowering dates of Prunus yedoensis and other phenological phenomena in various species delayed about 3.5 day as the increase of 1 degree of latitude, which coincides with the Hopkins bioclimatic law. It was found that the YDI is useful to interprete the phenology of plant and animal species and to select the optimum range of cultivars in South Korea.

철도차량 현가특성의 최적설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Optimum Design of Railway Vehicle Suspension Characteristics)

  • In this study, the most important suspension characteristics of railway vehicle, such as primary and secondary stiffness, are optimized to maximize ride qualify. Critical speed, secondary suspension stroke oil tangent track and derailment coefficient on the maximum curvature, are selected as the performance constraints. Piecewise linear curving model is used to evaluate derailment coefficient where it is assumed that wheel/rail contacts occurs at tread or at idealized flange. The combined design procedure is used to optimize above design variables at the same time.

화장품용기 부피 지수를 이용한 화장품 포장 설계 (Cosmetic Packaging Design using Cosmetic Container's Volume Index)

  • 일부 화장품용기의 크기가 내용물에 비해 지나치게 크다는 언론 보도가 잇따르고 있는 시점에서 내용량 부피 대비 포장외용적의 비율을 이용한 부피 지수를 산출하는 연구를 진행하였다. 시중에서 유통되는 기초화장품 중 국내외 화장품 200개 이상을 분석하여 화장품 용기 부피지수(Lcos) 및 지수를 이용한 최적 기준, 권고기준 및 상한기준의 설계 기준을 도출하였다. 분석결과 수거된 국내외 화장품의 약 37%는 권고 기준 혹은 최적 기준을 충족시켰으며 약 15%는 상한기준을 넘어 과대한 부피를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 부피지수가 1.0에서 1.2 사이에 약 31%의 화장품이 분포되어 있으며 이러한 제품들은 향후 개발 과정에서 약간의 용기 부피 감량화 노력에 의해 권고기준 내로 디자인 변경이 용이한 그룹에 속한다고 볼 수 있었다. 본 연구의 결과물인 화장품용기 부피지수의 이용은 화장품이 과대포장 되어 있다는 부정적인 이미지를 탈피하고 제품용량 대비 적절한 외용적 및 재질 사용량에 대한 기준점을 제시하는 수단이 될 수 있을 것이다. 또한 향후 업계에서 자율적으로 연구된 지수를 반영하여 화장품 용기의 설계 및 생산 시 기준점을 잡을 수 있는 가이드라인의 역할을 할 수 있기를 바란다.

대두 지방산을 활용한 화장품 기초제 개발 (Studies on Application of Soybean Fatty Acid for Development of Cosmetic Formulation)

  • Soybean fatty acid, the largest byproduct in the production of soybean oil, was formulated for hand cream, oil in water emulsion base, to improve the suppleness and elasticity of skin. The stability of emulsion observed by a macroscopic method was used as a characteristic index for deciding an optimum formula of hand creams. The optimum formula of the most stable hand cream was obtained from polynomial regression equation, contour graphs and partial derivative graphs. The values of soybean fatty acid and stearyl alcohol in the obtained optimum formula were 9.75 and 14.75 w/w%, respectively, and sodium lauryl sulfate was not needed. Experimental value for the stability of hand cream prepared according to the optimum formula was 76,14 days, and the prediction value by computation method was 73.25 days. From the results of accelerated tests by elevated temperature, the stability of hand cream by optimum formula was 1.7 year at room temperature $(25^{\circ}C)$. The hand cream containing soybean fatty acid was found to be free of primary irritant substance to the skin by Draize technique.

모델링 기법을 이용한 하수처리 공정 설계와 환경성 및 경제성 평가 (Design and Environmental/Economic Performance Evaluation of Wastewater Treatment Plants Using Modeling Methodology)

  • 실제 하수 처리 시스템에서 유입조건, 공법, 다양한 운전조건과 복잡한 인자에 대하여 실험을 통하여 많은 처리공법을 비교하고 각 공정별 최적조건을 찾는 것은 쉽지 않은 일이며, 많은 비용과 시간을 필요로 한다. 본 연구에서는 하수 처리 시스템의 주요 생물학적 하수처리 공정인 $A_2O$(혐기/무산소/호기), Bardenpho(4단계), VIP(Virginia Initiative Plant), UCT(University of Cape Town) 공정의 활성오니공정모델을 이용한 모델링을 수행하고, 이를 바탕으로 공법별 환경성과 경제성 평가의 비교 분석을 수행하였다. 이를 위해 다양한 하수처리 공정의 처리 효율을 비교하고 새로운 지표로 나타낼 수 있는 환경성 평가 기준과 동시에 비용 산출을 고려한 평가 지표를 제시하였다. 제시된 지표를 바탕으로 통해 각 공정 최적화와 유입조건에 따른 고도처리공정의 공법 선정에 유용하게 쓰일 수 있음을 보였다. 또한 유입유량과 호기조 부피의 변화에 따른 경제성과 환경성 지표의 변화를 파악하고, 나아가 다양한 운전 조건하에서의 최적 지표를 예측할 수 있었다.

  • This paper presented a method of evaluating navigational safety of a ship by means fo the integrted seakeeping performance index(ISPI). The ISPI is defined by measuring only any one factor through the medium of relative dangerousness of the other factors for evaluating seakeeping performance. This evaluation method can be applied to the ships for any types and loading conditions. In devloping the practical evaluation system of navigational safety, it is expected to be useful to solve the difficulties in measuring factors by sensors. The results are also useful for devloping the optimum type of ship by applying at the initial design phase.

  • We have calculated the optimum refractive index and thickness for a single layer antireflection coating as a function of active layer width and thickness in buried channel waveguides. The results using the variational method to obtain the field profiles are compared to those using the effective index method.
