  • The conversion efficiency of an ozone generator can be significantly improved by modifying the discharge electrode of a helical strip line rod-to-cylinder type ozone generator to a pyramid-project-embossed rod, and by using a pulse corona discharge. Parametric studies have been carried out to obtain optimum values of peak pulse voltage, pulse forming capacitance, feeder cable and ozone generator capacitance, interelectrode spacing and corona tip density of ozone generator, and feed air flow rate and temperature. The generated ozone concentration was very dependent upon the value of pulse forming capacitance, feeder cable and ozone generator capacitance, and corona tip density. Maximum conversion efficiency was obtained with a pulse forming capacitance of about 500pF, 75pF matched feeder cable and ozone generator, and a corona tip density of 16mm. When operated at optimum values, ozone yield of 79, 99, 80 g/KWh for the different interelectrode type ozone generators tested were obtained, which are approximately 30% higher than that of an industrial ozone generator.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the desulfurization kinetics of paper sludge and limestone in a fluidized bed reactor according to bed temperature and air velocity. The experimental results were presented as follows ; First, the bed temperature had a great influence on the desulfurization efficiency of limestone and paper sludge. In paper sludge, the optimum condition in desulfurization temperature was at 80$0^{\circ}C$ and in limestone, that was at 850 $^{\circ}C$ or 900 $^{\circ}C$ Second, as air velocity increased, the desulfurization efficiency(or the absorbed amount of sulfur dioxide) by limestone and paper sludge decreased. And the absorbed amount of sulfur dioxide by paper sludge was larger than that of by limestone. Third, as the velocity increased and the optimum desulfurization temperature became, ks and the removal efficiency increased. So, ks, kd highly depended on the air velocity and bed temperature.

  • In recent years, grinding techniques for precision machining of astainless steel used in shaft, screw parts and clear value have been improved by using superabrasive wheel and precision grinding machine. The completion of optimum dressing of superabrasive wheel makes possible the effective percision grinding of stainless steel. However, the present dressing system cannot have control of optimum dressing of the superabrabive wheel. In this study, a new system and the grinding mechanism of optimum in-process electrolytic dressing were proposed. This system can carry out optimum in-process dressing of superabrasive wheel. Therefore, the optimum in-process electrolytic dressing is a good method to obtain the efficiency and mirror-like grinding of stainless steel(SUS304).

  • If optimum design technique is applied in the design of packaging container for bulk materials, merits on the side of not only economic and compression performance but distribution efficiency are expected. In this study, on the ground of the optimum models for required board area and compression strength performance, optimum design program having faculties of outward and inward optimum design and information design was developed. This program was composed of input module, output module, database and management module, and calculation module. Though the packaging specifications ars same, requied board area, board composition and cost of container were greatly different according to exterior packaging conditions. Also, about 12% in weight of container was lighter, and about $13{\sim}17%$ in cost of container was reduced when the program was applied for 2 kinds of bulk materials.

  • In recent years, grinding techniques for precision machining of brittle materials used in die, model and optical parts have been improved by using superfine abrasive wheel and precision grinding machine. The completion of optimum dressing of superfine abrasive wheel makes possible the effective precision grinding of die steel(STD-11). In this study, a new system and the grinding mechanism of optimum in-process electrolytic dressing were proposed. This method can carry out optimum in-process electrolytic dressing of superfine abrasive wheel. Therefore, the optimum in-process electrolytic dressing is a good method to obtain the efficiency and mirror-like grinding of STD-11.

  • The optimum design technology using combind F.E.M and eauivalent circuit is so fast and accurate that it can be applied to the optimum rotor design of an inverter-fed induction motor in high efficiency motor making industry. The optimum characteristics fer a rotor slot model of a 3 phase inverter-134 nduction motor was previously verified by a time-step F.E.M. In this paper, four verification models with the design variables near the optimum point are designed to chech whether the characteristics of a slot model presented is not less than those of the near models. The outputs of whole models are analyzed in a time-step Finite Element Method and compared in the experimental test. The economical and efficient selecting method of design variables fur the computer simulation and experimental test is presented in order to assure the optimum point.

제지 폐수처리를 위한 응집제의 최적 혼합주입량 결정 방법 (Determination of the Optimum Flocculant Mixing Ratio for Paper Making Wastewater Treatment)

  • In this study, dewaterability, one of the important properties of wastewater sludge, was investigated using a simple capillary suction time (CST) measurement method. It turned out that one could use the results of CST to find optimum flocculants ratio to improve drainage in wastewater treatment for the printing paper, tissue paper, and newsprint paper mill. Since the optimum ratio of flocculants could be determined with the value of CST, COD removal efficiency could be improved and optimum floc strength could be achieved with precise ratio of flocculants. It was thus that using CST for determining the optimum ratio of flocculants could be economical by reducing the amount of flocculants. Dewaterability could be measured within several seconds using the values of CST in a precise way. The dewaterability could also be useful in investigating the optimum ratio of flocculants.

방전플라스마에 의한 NOx, SOx 분해시 메탄첨가의 영향 (Effect of CH4 Addition in Case of Decomposition of NOx, SOx by Discharge Plasma)

  • For hazardous air pollutants(HAP) such as NO, $NO_2$ and $SO_2$ decomposition efficiency, power consumption, and applied voltage were investigated by SPCP(Surface induced discharge Plasma Chemical Processing) reactor to obtain optimum process variables and maximum decomposition efficiencies. Decomposition efficiency of HAP with various electric frequencies(5~50 kHz), flow rates(100~1,000 mL/min), initial concentrations(100~1,000 ppm) and additive($CH_4$) were measured and the products were analyzed with FT-IR. Experimental results showed that for the frequency of 10 kHz, the highest decomposition efficiency of 94.3 % for NO, 84.7 % for $NO_2$ and 99 % far $SO_2$ were observed at the power consumptions of 19.8, 20 and 19W, respectively, and that decomposition efficiency decreased with increasing frequency above 20 kHz. And decomposition efficiency per unit power were 5.21 %/W for $SO_2$, 4.76 %/W for NO and 4.24 %/W for $NO_2$ and the highest decomposition efficiency was observed with $SO_2$. Decomposition efficiency was increased with increasing residence times and with decreasing initial concentration of pollutants. When the additive of $CH_4$ was used, decomposition efficiency was increased with increasing $CH_4$ content, and NO, $NO_2$ and $SO_2$ were almost completely decomposed with the efficiency of 99 %, 98 % and 99 %, respectively and therefore $CH_4$ was a good additive material. The optimum power for the maximum decomposition efficiency were 7.5 W for $SO_2$, 9.5 W for NO and 15.5 W for $NO_2$, respectively. Optimum power with the maximum decomposition efficiency were 9.5 W at 1,000 ppm of NO, 7~8 W at 100~500 ppm of NO and 15.5 W at all concentration range of $NO_2$ and 11.5 W at 1,000 ppm, 4.9 W at 500 ppm, 3.7 W at 100~300 ppm of $SO_2$ and power efficiency was best in these case.

Refolding of Bacillus macerans Cyclodextrin Glucanotransferase Expressed as Inclusion Bodies in Recombinant Escherichia coli

  • This research was undertaken to restore the biological activity of cyclodextrin glucanotransferase (CGTase) of Bacillus macerans origin expressed as inclusion bodies in recombinant Escherichia coli. The optimum concentration of urea used as a denaturant was 8 M. The supplementation of 0.5 M urea into a dialysis buffer increased the refolding efficiency by preventing any protein aggregation. The influence of the protein concentration, temperature, and pH were also investigated. The protein concentration was found to be the most important factor in the refolding efficiency. The optimum temperature was 15-$25^{\circ}C$ and the optimum pH was 6.0. The maximum specific activity of the CGTase refolded under the optimum conditions was 92.2 U/mg, corresponding to 72% of the native CGTase. A comparison of the secondary structure between the native and the refolded CGTase showed that the relative ratio of the $\alpha$-helix content in the native to the refolded CGTase was 1:0.82.
