  • In this paper, we introduce a domain-independent classification framework based on both k-nearest neighbor and Naive Bayesian classification algorithms. The architecture of our system is simple and modularized in that each sub-module of the system could be changed or improved efficiently. Moreover, it provides various feature selection mechanisms to be applied to optimize the general-purpose classifiers for a specific domain. As for the enhanced classification performance, our system provides conditional probability boosting (CPB) mechanism which could be used in various domains. In the mood classification domain, our optimized framework using the CPB algorithm showed 1% of improvement in precision and 2% in recall compared with the baseline.

  • Any future heterogeneous overlay network system must be able to support ubiquitous access across multiple wireless networks. To coordinate these diverse network environments, one challenging task is a call admission decision among different types of network. In this paper, we propose a new call admission control scheme to provide quality of service (QoS) while ensuring system efficiency. Based on the interplay between network structure and dynamics, we estimate the network's QoS level and adjust the service price adaptively with the aim of maximizing the network performance. A simulation shows that the proposed scheme can approximate an optimized solution while ensuring a well-balanced network performance in widely different network environments.

  • Mani Memory DataBase(MMDB) system store their data in main physical memory and provide very high-speed access. Conventional database system are optimized for the particular characteristics of disk storage mechanism. Memory resident systems, on the other hand, use different optimizations to structure and organize data, as well as to make it reliable. This paper provides a brief overview on MMDBs and the results after evaluating the performance of our simple MMDB based on Embedded system.

  • In this paper, we focus on a configuration control method of a redundant manipulator. The configuration of a redundant manipulator has been determined by geometry constraints and additional conditions, such as obstacle avoidance and dexterity optimization. This paper also utilizes optimization, and the additional condition (or performance index) to be optimized is stiffness of the end-effector and joints' torque. Stiffness and torque may be a natural attribute to be controlled during working and those vary as manipulator configuration does. So the optimal configuration from the viewpoint of stiffness and joint torque is studied. If the servo control mechanism of the joints Is assumed to be a...

  • The sliding wear behavior of $Al_2O_3/NiCr$ coating deposited on steel(SM45C) was investigated under lubrication. The parameters of sliding wear are normal loads, coating thickness. As a result, the wear resistance of $Al_2O_3/NiCr$ coating was remarkably greater than that of $Al_2O_3$ coating. The optimized coating thickness was found to be $300{\mu}m$ to ensure good anti-wear. The bond coating played important role in decreasing residual stress. The residual stress had much influence on wear mechanism. These results were correlated with the stress state of coating and the microstructure of coating.

  • Heat treatment for car body molds is mainly a manual process performed by a worker. The performance of this process is affected by workers' skill level, and has limitation in maintaining uniform product quality. In this study, we developed a diode laser heat treatment robot system that implements an OLP type simulator to overcome the limitation of manual process, and to improve and stabilize the quality level. In addition, we verified the efficiency of the robot system and mechanism stability from the early stage through design verification and simulated analysis in the development stage. In addition, we carried out a field test to study the way to establish optimized D/B for diode laser heat treatment criteria for car body molds, such as heat treatment speed, interval, etc. via site experiment.

  • One fo the major problems in speech recognition is the mismatch between training and testing environments. Recently, SNR normalization technique, which normalizes the dynamic range of frequency channels in mel-scaled filterbank, was proposed[1]. While it showed improved robustness against additive noise, it requires a reliable speech detection mechanism and several adaptation parameters to be optimized. In this paper, we propose a modified SNR normalization technique. In this technique, we take simply the maximum of filterbank output and predetermined masking constant for each frequency band. According to the speaker-independent isolated word recognition in car noise environments, proposed modification yields better recognition performance that the original SNR normalization method, with rather reduced complexity.

  • The tunnel booming noise generated by a train moving into a tunnel has been one of the most serious constraints in the development of the high-speed trains. It is well known that the nose shape of the train has the significant influence on the intensity of the booming noise. In this study, the nose shape has been optimized by using the response surface methodology and the axi-symmetric compressible Euler equations. The parametric studies are also performed with respect to the slenderness ratio, the blockage ratio and the train speed to investigate their sensitivities to the optimization results. The results show that it is possible to define more general design space by introducing the Hicks-Henne shape functions, resulting in the more effective nose shape than that of Maeda. The mechanism and the aspects of the train-tunnel interaction were also investigated from the results of the parametric study.

  • To reduce the cost and the time of transport in Eurasian railroad networks such as TKR(Trans-Korea Railway), TCR(Trans-China Railway) and TSR(Trans-Siberia Railway) owing to the problem of different track gauges (narrow/standard/broad gauge), it is important to develop the gauge - adjustable wheelset system to adapt easily to these gauges. Moreover, this system accomplishes periodically a conversion operation from the gauge variable segment between different gauge. Gauge adjustable compression coil spring during conversion process accomplishes repetitively a central role for operation mechanism between flange and locking part. Therefore, to assure the safety of the gauge-adjustment wheelset system, it is necessary to stress analysis of the optimized spring in the system. In this study, it was performed to optimal design of the spring for stress analysis by using the genetic algorithm.
