In this paper, an optimal PID sliding mode controller is proposed for the position control of electro-hydrostatic actuator(ERA) systems with system uncertainties and saturation in the motor. An ERA prototype is developed and system modeling and parameter identification are executed. Then, optimal PID and optimal anti-windup PID controller are designed based on identified system model by using optimization toolbox in MA TLAB/Simulink and the performance of the two control systems are compared by experiment. It was found that the optimal anti-windup PID control system has better performance than the optimal anti-windup PID control system.
This paper discusses the advantages of using Fourier-based periodic excitation and of combining internal and external models in dynamic robot parameter identification. Internal models relate the joint torques or forces with the motion of the robot; external models relate the reaction forces and torques on the bedplate with the motion data. This combined model allows to combine joint torque/force and reaction torque/force measurements in one parameter estimation scheme. This combined model estimation will yield more accurate parameter estimates, and consequently better predictions of actuator torque, which is shown by means of a simulated experiment on a CRS A465 industrial robot.

The common practice for the identification of piezoelectric properties is based on the use of immittance behavior of a resonator with a certain geometry and poling direction. In this paper, a new method is suggested to identify the complex-valued piezoelectric material constants. This method is based on the minimization of differences between the analytical immittance and the experimental measurement of resonator. Non-linear minimization problems are formulated to find out the unknown properties relevant to the resonators. The immittance data used for identification are measured at a number of frequencies which cover the vicinity of resonance frequency and the low frequency region. To illustrate the proposed technique, the complex-valued coefficients are identified for a typical PZT4 ceramic composition.
This paper offers the theory and method for regression analysis of the regression model with operational parameter variables based on the fundamentals of mathematical statistics. Regression coefficients are usually constants related to the problem of regression analysis. This paper considers that regression coefficients are not constants but the functions of some operational parameter variables. This is a kind of method of two-step fitting regression model. The second part of this paper considers the experimental step numbers as recursive variables, the recursive identification with unknown operational parameter variables, which includes two recursive variables, is deduced. Then the optimization and the recursive identification are combined to obtain the sequential experiment optimum design with operational parameter variables. This paper also offers a fast recursive algorithm for a large number of sequential experiments.

Structural health monitoring and damage detection are essential for assessing, maintaining, and rehabilitating structures. Most of the existing damage detection approaches compare the current state structural response with the undamaged vibrational structural response, which is unsuitable for old and existing structures where undamaged vibrational responses are absent. One of the approaches for existing structures, numerical model updating/inverse modelling, available in the literature, is limited to numerical studies with high-end software. In this study, an attempt is made to study the effectiveness of the model updating technique, simplify modelling complexity, and economize its usability. The optimization-based detection problem is addressed by using programmable open-sourced code, OpenSees® and a derivative-free optimization code, NOMAD®. Modal analysis is used for damage identification of beam-like structures with several damage scenarios. The performance of the proposed methodology is validated both numerically and experimentally. The proposed method performs satisfactorily in identifying both locations and intensity of damage in structures.
The PBL (Poly-butadiene Latex) production process is a typical batch process. Changes of the reactor characteristics due to the accumulated scaling with the increase of batch cycles require adaptive tuning of the PID controller being used. In this work we propose a tuning method for PID controllers based on the closed-loop identification and the genetic algorithm (GA) and apply it to control the PBL process. An approximated process transfer function for the PBL reactor is obtained from the closed-loop data using a suitable closed-loop identification method. Tuning is performed by GA optimization in which the objective function is given by ITAE for the setpoint change. The proposed tuning method showed good control performance in actual operations.
In the construction of successful fuzzy models and/or controllers for nonlinear systems, identification of a good fuzzy Neural inference system is an important yet difficult problem, which is traditionally accomplished by trial and error process. In this paper, we propose a systematic identification procedure for complex multi-input single- output nonlinear systems with DNA coding method.DNA coding method is optimization algorithm based on biological DNA as are conventional genetic algothms (GAs). We also propose a new coding method for applying the DNA coding method to the identification of fuzzy Neural models. To acquire optimal TS fuzzy model with higher accuracy and economical size, we use the DNA coding method to optimize the parameters and the number of fuzzy inference system.

The Suspension Trapping (S-Trap) method has been a prominent sample preparation technique since its introduction in 2014. Its capacity to induce protein aggregation using organic solvents has significantly improved protein purification and facilitated peptide identification. However, its full potential for automation has been limited by the lack of a suitable liquid handling system until recently. In this study, we aimed to enhance the automation of S-Trap sample preparation by optimizing the S-Trap digestion process, incorporating triethylammonium bicarbonate (TEAB) and CaCl2. The utilization of TEAB buffer conditions in this innovative process led to a noteworthy 12% improvement in protein identification. Additionally, through careful observation of various incubation conditions, we streamlined the entire sample preparation workflow into a concise 4 hours timeline, covering reduction, alkylation, and trypsin incubation stages. This refined and expedited automated S-Trap digestion process not only showcased exceptional time efficiency but also improved trypsin digestion, resulting in increased protein identification.
This study presents the Big Bang and Big Crunch (BB-BC) optimization algorithm for detection of structure damage in large severity. Local damage is represented by a perturbation in the elemental stiffness parameter of the structural finite element model. A nonlinear objective function is established by minimizing the discrepancies between the measured and calculated acceleration responses (AR) of the structure. The BB-BC algorithm is utilized to solve the objective function, which can localize the damage position and obtain the severity of the damage efficiently. Numerical simulations have been conducted to identify both single and multiple structural damages for beam, plate and European Space Agency Structures. The present approach gives accurate identification results with artificial measurement noise.

This study aims to develop a pattern identification system (PIS) for general users to check up their body condition. We collected previous 3 PI questionnaires, with internal consistency reliability or validity of the diagnosis by experts, through a field test. For defining weights of pattern indices, we applied the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method with 11 experts. PIS receive two kinds of symptoms of users : body region based symptoms and core symptoms for PIS. PIS suggest possible patterns and health information on the basis of selected symptoms with analysis by AHP. This study showed PIS could be easily used for general user who wants to access Korean Medicine compared to conventional PI system. Furthermore, it could be utilized with mobile environment or as remote medicine care.
