In recent deregulation and competitive power market environment, electric utilities plan and operate their systems for economic benefit with secure system condition. Therefore, implementation of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices can be planned for the efficient utilization of the present system facility. This paper presents a technique to solve the problem about optimal allocation of FACTS devices far the purpose of enhanced system operation.
Pubilc utility industries including the electric utility industry are facing a new stream of privatization com-petition with the private sector and deregulation. The necewssity to solve now and in the future power supply and demand problems has been increasing through the sophisticated generation expansion plan(GEP) approach con-sidering not only KEPCo's supply-side resources but also outside resources such as non-utility generation(NUG) demand-side management (DSM). Under the environmental situation in the current electric utility industry a new approach is needed to acquire multiple resources competitively. This study presents the development of a modified electric generation expansion analysis system(EGEAS) model with avoided cost based on the existing EGEAS model which is a dynamic program to develope an optimal generation expansion plan for the electric utility. We are trying to find optimal GEP in Korea's case using our modified model and observe the difference for the level of reliabilities such as the reserve margin(RM) loss of load probability(LOLP) and expected unserved energy percent(EUEP) between the existing EGEAS model and our model. In addition we are trying to calculate avoided cost for NUG resources which is a criterion to evaluate herem and test possibility of connection calculation of avoided cost with GEP implementation using our modified model. The results of our case study are as follows. First we were able to find that the generation expansion plan and reliability measures were largely influenced by capacity size and loading status of NUG resources, Second we were able to find that avoided cost which are criteria to evaluate NUG resources could be calculated by using our modified EGEAS model with avoided cost. We also note that avoided costs were calculated by our model in connection with generation expansion plans.

An ideal traffic control system should consider simultaneously both route guidance of vehicles and signal policies at intersection of a traffic network. It is known that an iterative procedure gives an optimal route to each vehicle in the network. This paper presents an iterative procedure to find an optimal signal plan for the network. We define the optimal solution as a signal equilibrium. From the definition of signal equilibrium, we prove that the fixed point solution of the iterative procedure is a signal equilibrium, when optimal signal algorithms are implemented at each intersection of the network. A combined model of route guidance and signal planning is also suggested by relating the route guidance procedure and the signal planning procedure into a single loop iterative procedure.
Water supply plan by optimal conjunctive use of surface and ground water is studied to prepare expected water deficit in near future. The optimization model for conjunctive use of surface and ground water is developed using discrete differential dynamic programming technique to maximize net benefit by water supply. As a result of applying the model to Namdaechun river located in Yangyang, it is found that water supply reliability using optimal conjunctive use of surface and ground water is much higher than reliability using surface water alone.

Mobile robot has been studied for long time due to its simple structure and easy modeling. Regarding path planning of the mobile robot, we suggest real-time hybrid path planning algorithm which is the combination of optimal path planning and real-time path planning in this paper. Real-time hybrid path planning algorithm modifies, finds best route, and saves calculating time. It firstly plan the route with real-time path planning then robot starts to move according to the planned route. While robot is moving, update the route as the best outcome which found by optimal path planning algorithm. Verifying the performance of the proposed method through the comparing real-time hybrid path planning with optimal path planning will be done.

Most of the planing models for automated manufacturing systems are based on the assumption that for each part there is only one process method available Really. for a part to be manufactured in an automated manufacturing system, a number of different process methods can be generated, each of which may require specific types of tools and auxiliary devices such as fixtures, grippers and feeders. In this paper, An optimal algorithm for the selection of a set of process methods with the minimum corresponding manufacturing cost and minimal number of tools and auxiliary devices Is proposed. The proposed optimal algorithm is based on branch and bound method which is one of the optimal solution methods.
It is considered necessary to renewal a considerable number of water supply facilities in Korea because they began to be intensively buried in the period of rapid economic growth. Accordingly, local water providers are required to take measures against this situation, but they have currently been caught in a vicious circle of the lack of budget spent in renewing water supply facilities because county-based small-scale local water supply cannot afford to cover annual expenditures with their revenues from water rates. Therefore, this study developed an optimal renewal planning model capable of achieving a balance of financial revenue and expenditure in local water supply using nonlinear programming and furthermore of minimizing the total cost incurred during the analysis. To this end, this study selected the water supply area located in County Y as a research area to build the financial revenue and expenditure and used Solver function provided by Microsoft Excel to use nonlinear programming. As a result, this study developed an optimal renewal planning model minimizing incurred costs in consideration of 6 items in the financial revenue and expenditure. The optimal renewal plan was modeled according to the available annual budget. As a result, this study proposed SICD, a scenario to minimize total costs from the perspective of water suppliers, and SITS, a scenario to minimize the increase in water rates from the perspective of consumers. It can be said that the method proposed in this study is the core of the optimal financial and renewal plans as a final stage of asset management for water supply facilities. Therefore, it is considered possible for local water providers to use the method proposed in this study according to circumstances for the asset management of water supply facilities.

Artillery fire power due to effectiveness which is hard to predict well-planned and surprising attack can give a fear and shock to the personnel and is a very core weapon system and takes a critical role in wartime. Therefore in order to maximize operational effectiveness, Army required protecting artillery and takes a quick attack action through rapid construction of artillery's positions. The artillery use artillery's position to prevent exposure by moving to other position frequently. They have to move and construct at new artillery's positions quickly against exposing existed place by foe's recognition. These positions should be built by not manpower but engineering construction equipment. Because artillery positions have to protect human and artillery equipment well and build quickly. Military engineering battalion have lots of construction equipment which include excavator, loader, dozer, combat multi-purposed excavator, armored combat earthmover dump truck and so on. So they have to decide to optimal number of Team combining these equipments and determine construction sequence of artillery's position in operational plan. In this research, we propose to decide number of Team efficiently and allocate required construction's positions for each Team under constraints of limited equipments and time. To do so, we develop efficient heuristic method which can give near optimal solution and be applied to various situation including commander's intention, artillery position's priority or grouping etc. This heuristic can support quick and flexible construction plan of artillery positions not only for using various composition's equipment to organize Teams but also for changing quantity of positions.
In this study, Ant Colony Algorithm(ACO) was used for optimal model. ACO which are metaheuristic algorithm for combinatorial optimization problem are inspired by the fact that ants are able to find the shortest route between their nest and food source. For applying the model to water distribution systems, pipes, tanks(reservoirs), pump construction and pump operation cost were considered as object function and pressure at each node and reservoir level were considered as constraints. Modified model from Ostfeld and Tubaltzev(2008) was verified by applying 2-Looped, Hanoi and Ostfeld's networks. And sensitivity analysis about ant number, number of ants in a best group and pheromone decrease rate was accomplished. After the verification, it was applied to real water network from S water treatment plant. As a result of the analysis, in the Two-looped network, the best design cost was found to $419,000 and in the Hanoi network, the best design cost was calculated to $6,164,384, and in the Ostfeld's network, the best design cost was found to $3,525,096. These are almost equal or better result compared with previous researches. Last, the cost of optimal design for real network, was found for 66 billion dollar that is 8.8 % lower than before. In addition, optimal diameter for aged pipes was found in this study and the 5 of 8 aged pipes were changed the diameter. Through this result, pipe construction cost reduction was found to 11 percent lower than before. And to conclusion, The least cost design model on water distribution system was developed and verified successfully in this study and it will be very useful not only optimal pipe change plan but optimization plan for whole water distribution system.

In can occur to many problems on progressing step without close scope definition, interrelation definition between activities, resource plan, and schedule plan on planning step. But it have not closely defined performance system on planning step because of many constraints of domestic construction industry. Therefore this paper intends to discuss a method of calculating optimal cost and duration using Linear Programming that solves maximing or minimizing problems among decision making methodology and Monte Carlo Simulation that decreases to probability errors. With outcoms applying Linear programming and Monte Carlo Simulation for calculating optimal cost and duration, follow as : With outcomes applying Monte Carlo Simulation, it could calculate reliable estimator about project duration through removing various constraints. With outcomes applying Linear programming, it could calculate optimal value about project cost through defining various variables and constraints on many activities.
