In order to approximate a nonlinear function, modular wavelet networks combining wavelet theory and modular concept based on single layer neural network have been proposed as an alternative to conventional wavelet neural networks and kind of modular network. Modular wavelet networks provide better approximating performance than conventional one. In this paper, we propose an effective method to construct an optimal modualr wavelet network using genetic algorithm. This is verified through experimental results.

The determination of the optimal depreciation as constrained by the tax law is very complicated computation which is laborious and time-comsurning process. The objective of this research effort is to develop a Decision Support System for Depreciation(DSSD) that can be used by a decision maker to analyze alternative depreciation strategies and to select that strategy which will be most beneficial to the firm from a tax and net profit standpoint.

To save time and cost in assembly process and to improve th quality of products, it is very important to choose and optimal assembly sequence. In this paper, we propose a methodology that generates an optimal assembly sequence by using various methods and the knowledge of experts. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, a knowledge-based system is developed, The built system is applied to the case of UBR(Unit Bath Room). The applying result showed the applicability of the developed system.

Computer simulation is carried out for passive, active, and semi-active suspension system. Each RMS and frequency response to road profile input is calculated for comparison and evaluation of the performance. The vibration analysis and active control of the quarter model of a vehicle suspension is studied in order to evaluate the alternative control laws. This paper derives an optimal closed-loop feedback law for the semi-active suspension that justifies the clipped optimal approach.

To consider current concepts of epilepsy further, the brief review begins with a discussion of what is epilepsy, discribes multifactorial nature of epileptic disorders, and ends with a presentation of current classifications. A combination of the standard antiepielptic drugs(AEDs) may be necessary to treat intractable seizures, but no studies have been done to indicate an optimal combination. The new AEDs provide alternative choices, but questions remain about the optimal timing and manner of administration. AEDs selection must individualized, no drug of choice can be named for all patients.

Falk(1994) showed that the asymptotic efficiency of the Pickands estimator of the extreme value index $\beta$ can considerably be improved by a simple convex combination. In this paper we propose an alternative estimator of $\beta$ which is as asymptotically efficient as the optimal convex combination of the Pickands estimators but has a better finite-sample performance. We prove consistency and asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator. Monte Carlo simulations are conducted to compare the finite-sample performances of the proposed estimator and the optimal convex combination estimator.

This paper tries to suggest a rational proposal for the distribution of compensation of common property fisheries damages caused by a large scale coastal reclamation. For the purpose the paper introduces the approach of alternative cost of the use of fishing ground. The background of the paper is the legal conflict between tenants and non-tenants, both of whom are common owners of seaweed cultivation ground, in the distribution of compensation for damages. In principal, so far as the seaweed cultivation right is a common property of the fishing association, the compensation is also a common property of it. Therefore the distribution method of the compensation entirely depends on the decision of the association. But in case that the numbers of non-tenants is larger than those of tenants, the distribution of the compensation is usually unfavorable to the tenants even though the latter is the key contributor to the realization of present value of the common property. The paper aims to show an appropriate distribution method based on the economic principle of optimal distribution. In others words, the value added to the economic value of alternative use of the fishing ground should be distributed to the tenants. the value amount of alternative use of the fishing ground should be equally distributed to the members of the association.

This study developed signal optimization algorithm by analyzing vehicle arrival patterns. The major principle of signal optimization is dissipate all queueing vehicle in 1cycle and assign delay time uniformly for all approaches. For this, this study used optimal green time and surplus green time. Optimal green time calculated by estimated traffic volume from vehicle arrival model. Surplus green time defined as the gap of optimal green time and queue dissipated time. And alternative cycle has minimum surplus green time was selected as the optimal cycle. Finally, total delay and average delay per vehicle can be calculated by using queueing theory.

Suppose one is given a vector X of a finite set of quantities $X_i$ which are independent Poisson random variables. A null hypothesis $H_0$ about E(X) is to be tested against an alternative hypothesis $H_1$. A quantity $\sum\limits_{i}w_ix_i$ is to be computed and used for the test. The optimal values of $W_i$ are calculated for three cases: (1) signal to noise ratio is used in the test, (2) normal approximations with unequal variances to the Poisson distributions are used in the test, and (3) the Poisson distribution itself is used. The above three cases are considered to the situations that are without background noise and with background noise. A comparison is made of the optimal values of $W_i$ in the three cases for both situations.
