Magneto-rheological fluid (MRF) rotatory dampers are normally used for controlling the constant rotation of machines and engines. In this research, such a device is proposed to act as variable stiffness device to alleviate the rotational oscillation existing in the many engineering applications, such as motor. Under such thought, the main purpose of this work is to characterize the nonlinear torque-angular displacement/angular velocity responses of an MRF based variable stiffness device in oscillatory motion. A rotational hysteresis model, consisting of a rotatory spring, a rotatory viscous damping element and an error function-based hysteresis element, is proposed, which is capable of describing the unique dynamical characteristics of this smart device. To estimate the optimal model parameters, a modified whale optimization algorithm (MWOA) is employed on the captured experimental data of torque, angular displacement and angular velocity under various excitation conditions. In MWOA, a nonlinear algorithm parameter updating mechanism is adopted to replace the traditional linear one, enhancing the global search ability initially and the local search ability at the later stage of the algorithm evolution. Additionally, the immune operation is introduced in the whale individual selection, improving the identification accuracy of solution. Finally, the dynamic testing results are used to validate the performance of the proposed model and the effectiveness of the proposed optimization algorithm.
The water supply system has a wider installation range and various components of it than other infrastructure, making it difficult to secure stability against earthquakes. Therefore, it is necessary to develop methods for evaluating the seismic performance of water supply systems. Ground Motion Prediction Equation (GMPE) is used to evaluate the seismic performance (e.g, failure probability) for water supply facilities such as pump, water tank, and pipes. GMPE is calculated considering the independent variables such as the magnitude of the earthquake and the ground motion such as PGV (Peak Ground Velocity) and PGA (Peak Ground Acceleration). Since the large magnitude earthquake data has not accumulated much to date in Korea, this study tried to select a suitable GMPE for the domestic earthquake simulation by using the earthquake data measured in Korea. To this end, GMPE formula is calculated based on the existing domestic earthquake and presented the results. In the future, it is expected that the evaluation will be more appropriate if the determined GMPE is used when evaluating the seismic performance of domestic waterworks. Appropriate GMPE can be directly used to evaluate hydraulic seismic performance of water supply networks. In other words, it is possible to quantify the damage rate of a pipeline during an earthquake through linkage with the pipe failure probability model, and it is possible to derive more reasonable results when estimating the water outage or low-pressure area due to pipe damages. Finally, the quantifying result of the seismic performance can be used as a design criteria for preparing an optimal restoration plan and proactive seismic design of pipe networks to minimize the damage in the event of an earthquake.
Metal pipes are used in a wide range of applications, from plumbing systems of large construction sites to small devices such as medical tools. When a liquid is enforced to flow through a metal pipe, a higher flow rate is beneficial for higher efficiency. Using high pressures can enhance the flow rate yet can be harmful for medical applications. Thus, we consider an optimal geometrical design to increase the flow rate in medical devices. In this study, we focus on cannulas, which are widely used small metal pipes for surgical procedures, such as liposuction. We characterize the internal flow rate driven by a negative pressure and explore its dependence on the key design parameters. We quantitatively analyze the suction characteristics for each design variable by conducting computational fluid dynamics simulations. In addition, we build a suction performance measurement system which enables the translational motion of cannulas with pre-programmed velocity for experimental validation. The inner diameter, section geometry, and hole configuration are the design factors to be evaluated. The effect of the inner diameter dominates over that of section geometry and hole configuration. In addition, the circular tube shape provides the maximum flow rate among the elliptical geometries. Once the flow rate exceeds a critical value, the rate becomes independent of the number and width of the suction holes. Finally, we introduce a slippery liquid-infused nanoporous surface (SLIPS) coating using nanoparticles and hydrophobic lubricants that effectively improves the flow rate and antifouling property of cannulas without altering the geometrical design parameter.
Recently, marine surveys using unmanned ships are attracting attention, and research on small unmanned ships using sails is on the rise. Sail drones can be used for marine surveys, monitoring, and pollution management. Therefore, in this study, using the method of estimating the ship speed for twin sail drones, the optimal conditions for sailing are checked, and the performance to be considered in the initial design stage, such as the motion performance and resistance of the sail drone. Consequently, the twin sail drone had a speed lower than 2.0 m/s, and the stability satisfied the rule by DNV. In addition, the maximum speed at an angle of attack of 20° at TWA 100° was 1.69 m/s and that at an angle of attack of 25° at TWA 100° was 1.74 m/s.
This study reports a numerical analysis of the internal flow characteristics of the integrated urea-SCR muffler system with the various geometries of the multi-perforated tube which is set up between the muffler inlet and in front of SCR catalysts. The multi-perforated tube is generally used to disperse uniformly the urea-water solution spray and to make better use of the SCR catalyst, resulting in the increased
This research is to analyze the force on landing 3 Type of Halfpipe Curves(Ellipse, Circle, Brachistochrone) based on the mechanical calculation of normal force on a sloping surface. Jumping off a platform on a bard horizontal surface, the flexing of the legs, the softness of the snow, the angle of the landing surface, initial velocity and the forward motion of the snowboarder can contribute to reducing the force on landing. But halfpipe is significantly determined by the curvature of surface. It is definitely verified that the Brachistochrone curve is more safety than others. However currently using the Ellipse curve is mostly safe too. If we consider the efficiency of construction, we can easily think there is no use of another curves except normal ellipse curved halfpipe. It would better that geometrically verity curved halfpipe should be designed for improving fluent skills to snowboarders. This methode of research can be a model of scientifical research on sports safety how can sportsman reduce critical injury by designing optimal halfpipe facilities and manual.
The main object of this research is to minimize the shock effects which frequently result in fatal damage in wind met mast on impact of barge. The collision between wind met mast and barge is generally a complex problem and it is often not practical to perform rigorous finite element analyses to include all effects and sequences during the collision. LS-dyna generally purpose explicit finite element code, which is a product of ANSYS software, is used to model and analyze the non-linear response of the met mast due to barge collision. A significant part of the collision energy is dissipated as strain energy and except for global deformation modes, the contribution from elastic straining can normally be neglected. On applying impact force of a barge to wind met mast, the maximum acceleration, internal energy and plastic strain were calculated for each load cases using the finite element method and then compare it, varying to the velocity of barge, with one varying to the thickness of rubber fender conditions. Hence, we restrict the present research mainly to the wind met mast and also parametric study has been carried out with various velocities of barge, thickness of wind met mast, thickness and Mooney-Rivlin coefficient of rubber fender with experimental data. The equation of motion of the wind met mast is derived under the assumption that it was ignored vertical movement effect of barge on sea water. Such an analyzing method which was developed so far, make it possible to determine the proper size and material properties of rubber fender and the optimal moving conditions of barge, and finally, application method can be suggested in designing process of rubber fender considering barge impact.
This paper deals with an analysis of crustal movement for the sourthern part of Korean peninsula using GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) data. An earthquake of more than 5.0 occurred in the southeastern region of the Korean Peninsula, and it is necessary to evaluate the risk of earthquakes in various ways.In order to reveal long-term tectonic movement patten in Pohang and Gyeongju provinces, we derived crustal movement parameters related with elastic theory. We used GAMIT/GLOBK for analyzing seven-year interval GNSS data of CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Stations). The azimuth of velocity vectors trended generally about 110° with an mean magnitude of 31mm/yr.The main characteristics of the strain change for seven-year in Korea obtaind from our study. Direction of the principal axis of the maximum compression is ENE-WSW as a whole, through there are some exceptions. The mean rate of the maximum shear strain change is (0.11±0.07)μ/yr, that is approximately one third that of Chubu district, Central Japan. Taking into account our results, the mean rate of maximum shear in southern part of Korean peninsula is considered as reasonable. The mean azimuth of principal strain is about (85.4°±26.8°). There are some exceptions of azimuth because the average azimuth differ from the left and right side in Yangsan fault which are about (73.2°±21.5°) and (105.2°±17.0°) respectively, It is noteworthy that the high seismicity areas in the southern part of Korea peninsula almost coincides with the area of large strain rate. As a conclusion, it could be stated that the our study represents the characteristics of crustal deformation in the southern part of peninsula, and contributes to the researches on earthquake disaster management.
The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70
