  • In this study, a simulation was used to derive an optimal process of heat treatment with carburizing, and compared the derived result with SCr420HB helical gear in heat treatment with carburized quenching process about a change of the quenching method. The optimal carburizing process time is derived by the simulation with the theoretical time. The process has been performed by oil quenching and salt quenching method. Through the comparison of the results from the simulation(Hardness, effective case depth hardened by carburizing treatment and deformation) and the actual process, analyzed the error value of each quenching. And it verified the applicability of the simulation.

  • Four air hardening steels with carbon, silicon, manganese, chromium, and molybdenum variations have been used in this study to find out the optimal chemical compositions of steels with over 1200 MPa tensile strength for automotive subframe. The dimensional changes after heat treatment were determined for two automotive parts with open and closed cross sections using 3D scanner. When four steels were austenitized at 900℃ for 30 seconds, cooled at 3℃/s, reheated to 450℃ for 10 seconds followed by air cooling to simulate hot-dip galvanizing treatment showed ultra high tensile strength over 1200 MPa. Rear floor cross member with open cross section revealed much bigger dimensional changes than subframe with closed cross section after heat treatment at 900℃ for 20 minutes followed by air cooling.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the relation between surface roughness and heat absorption capability of materials for solar collector. For this purpose, 3 kinds of materials (copper, aluminum, iron), 5 kinds of surface roughness (scrubber, alumina sand #80, #200, #400, glass bead) and 2 kinds of surface treatment (black chrome plating, copper black coating) were used for finding optimal conditions to apply solar collector. As the results, it was confirmed that the optimal relations between surface roughness and surface treatment as well as optimal materials were necessary. Further, heat absorption capability was showed good results in cases of copper materials, glass bead and black chrome plating.

  • Heat treatment condition for dissolution of the M23C6 carbides in 2.25Cr-1Mo-V-Ti material for thermal power plant tube was investigated using a dilatometer method. 2.25Cr-1Mo-V-Ti material was heat-treated at $900{\sim}1,100^{\circ}C$ for 0, 10, 30 min to find the proper dissolution condition of M23C6 carbides. The phase identification and volume fraction of the carbide were measured by using OM, SEM, EBSD and TEM analysis. Optimal heat treatment condition of M23C6 carbide dissolution was selected by predicting dissolution temperature of carbide using Bs points appeared at dilatometer curve. Experimental results showed that the conditions of carbide dissolution was 900, 1,000, $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. Eventually, the optimal heat treatment condition for dissolution was 30 min at $1,000^{\circ}C$ considering the minimum coarsening of Austenite grain size.

  • Optimal heat treatment process in martensitic stainless steel such as SUS416 is investigated. The approach is based on the combination of the interpolation and extrapolation method of a standard heat treatment technology with the principle of quenching and tempering temperature difference. The relationship of the macroscopic structure, fracture toughness and ductility as well as the hardness and strength are considered to induce a simple rule to apply with feasibility. Consequently, Optimal heat treatment condition in martensitic stainless steel is proposed and is shown the better quality. It was found that the smaller pain size of microstructure gives the enhanced fracture toughness and ductility.

  • The purpose of this study is to formulate and solve the scheduling problem to heat-treatment process in forging process and apply it to industries. Heat-treatment is a common process in manufacturing heavy forged products in ship engines and wind power generators. Total complete time of the schedule depends on how to group parts and assign them into heat furnace. Efficient operation of heat-treatment process increases the productivity of whole production system while scheduling the parts into heat-treatment furnace is a combinatorial problem which is known as an NP-hard problem. So the scheduling, on manufacturing site, relies on engineers' experience. To improve heat-treatment process schedule, this study formulated it into an MIP mathematical model which minimizes total complete time. Three methods were applied to example problems and the results were compared to each other. In case of small problems, optimal solutions were easily found. In case of big problems, feasible solutions were found and that feasible solutions were very close to lower bound of the solutions. ILOG OPL Studio 5.5 was used in this study.

  • This paper deals with the dielectric properties dielectric breakdown strength and mechanical tensile properties according to heat - treatment condition of polyurethane resin. This resin is heat - treated over a range of temperature from $50^{\circ}C$ to $150^{\circ}C$. It is shown that the dielectric dissipation factor decreases with increase of heat - treatment temperature of the sample exept for the sample heat - treated at $150^{\circ}C$. The maximum dielectric breakdown strength is appeared for the sample heat - treated for 10 hours at $100^{\circ}C$, after curing for 24 hours at room temperature. The optimal heat - treatment condition in the view point of the electrical and mechanical properties is appeared for the sample heat - treated for 10 hours at $100^{\circ}C$, after curing for 24 hours at room temperature.

  • Barium ferrites (BaFe12O19) were synthesized at the various temperature by the coprecipitation-oxidation method. X-ray diffraction Rietveld analysis for barium ferrites were performed, their microstructures were observed and their magnetic properties were measured, in order to analyze the crystal structures and determine the optimal temperature of heat-treatment. The barium ferrite, its average particle size 80 nm, was formed at 600℃ through the hematite (α-Fe2O3), but the site occupations of the Fe's in tetrahedral and bipyramidal sites and of the Ba relatively low. Increasing the heating temperature, these occupations and the magnetization increased, and the crystal c-axis decreased. These changes were very small at the heat treatment of above 800℃, but the particles were rapidly grown. It is suggested that the optimal temperature of heat-treatment is 800℃, at which temperature crystal structure is relatively stable and the particles hardly ever grow.

  • We investigated the effect of heat treatment on an ADC12 alloy produced using diecasting. The heat treatment used in this study was a typical T6 process: a solid solution treatment followed by an artificial aging treatment. As-cast specimens were solid-solution-treated at $500^{\circ}C$ and $530^{\circ}C$ for 1-16 hr, and aged at $160^{\circ}C$ and $180^{\circ}C$ for 1-8 hr. Microstructural changes in the alloy during the heat treatment were observed. Changes in mechanical properties of the alloy were measured using a micro-Vickers hardness tester. Finally, we determined the optimal heat treatment conditions for the diecast ADC12 alloy.

  • We investigated color changes on the outer surfaces of Phyllostachys bambusoides bam-boo by heat treatment under three different temperatures (180℃, 200℃, and 220℃) for three different durations (60 min, 90 min, and 120 min). A method of predicting the bam-boo surface color change after heat treatment was developed to provide valuable information and increase the added value of domestic bamboo products. The three average color parameters L*, a*, and b* decreased, and the overall color changes increased as the severity factor increased. The values of L* × a* × b* were highly related to the severity factor, and the optimal duration time for the desired bamboo surface color with a certain heat-treatment temperature could be estimated.
