An Optimization of Dynamic Elements for Eddy Current Braking System of High Speed Train (고속전철의 와전류 제동장치 동적 최적화 연구)

  • Dynamic behavior of high speed train is very important because the high speed train should be safe and satisfied with the ride comfort. An eddy current brake system is mounted on trailer bogie and wheelset. The eddy current braking force longitudinally exerts on the articulated trailer bogie and the attraction force vertically exerts on the wheelset. Because a frame of eddy current brake system is flexible, these forces generate the vertical vibration at middle point of the frame. Also, the vibration change the vertical clearance between an electromagnet and top of rail which affect the magnitude of braking and attracting forces. Therefore, the dynamic behavior of the eddy current braking system must be predicted for design the dynamic characteristic of its mounting system when normally operate on rail which have irregularity. Vampire program is used for prediction of the dynamic behavior of an eddy current braking system. Five design variables and five performance index are considered for optimization through D-optimal experimental design in this paper. Also model center is used to search the optimal point for sum of performance index with variational matric method.

  • This paper discusses the elimination of DC voltage deviation and the enhancement of load current sharing accuracy in multi-terminal high voltage direct current (MT-HVDC) systems. In order to minimize the power line losses in different parallel network topologies and to insure the stable operation of systems, a decentralized control method based on a modified droop control is presented in this paper. Averaging the DC output voltage and averaging the output current of two neighboring converters are employed to reduce the congestion of the communication network in a control system, and the decentralized control method is implemented. By minimizing the power loss of the cable, the optimal load current sharing proportion is derived in order to achieve rational current sharing among different converters. The validity of the proposed method using a low bandwidth communication (LBC) network for different topologies is verified. The influence of the parameters of the power cable on the control system stability is analyzed in detail. Finally, transient response simulations and experiments are performed to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed control strategy for a MT-HVDC system.

  • Recently, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) drives are widely used for industrial applications due to its high efficiency and high power factor control strategy. PMSM generally have two classifications such as the SPMSM(Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) and IPMSM(Inter Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors). IPMSA has economical merits over SPMSM in higher speed range, mechanical robustness, and higher power rate by the geometric difference. The maximum torque operation in IPMSM is realized by the current angle control which is to utilize additional reluctance torque due to a rotor saliency. In traction, spindle and compressor drives, constant power operation with higher speed range are desirable. This is simply achieved in the DC motor drives by the reduction of the field current as the speed is increased. However, in the PMSM, direct control of the magnet flux is not available. The airgap flux can be weakened by the appropriate current angle control to demagnetize. In this paper, the control method of optimal current vector in IPMSM is described in order to obtain the maximum torque or maximum output with the speed and load variations. The applied algorithm is realized by the proto system with torque and speed control Experimental results show this approach is satisfied for the high performance servo applications.   • Congestion Management (CM) is an attractive research area in the electrical power transmission with the power compensation abilities. Reconfiguration and the Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices utilization relieve the congestion in transmission lines. The lack of optimal power (real and reactive) usage with the better transfer capability and minimum cost is still challenging issue in the CM. The prediction of suitable place for the energy resources to control the power flow is the major requirement for power handling scenario. This paper proposes the novel optimization principle to select the best location for the energy resources to achieve the real-reactive power compensation. The parameters estimation and the selection of values with the best fitness through the Symmetrical Distance Travelling Optimization (SDTO) algorithm establishes the proper controlling of optimal power flow in the transmission lines. The modified fitness function formulation based on the bus parameters, index estimation correspond to the optimal reactive power usage enhances the power transfer capability with the minimum cost. The comparative analysis between the proposed method with the existing power management techniques regarding the parameters of power loss, cost value, load power and energy loss confirms the effectiveness of proposed work in the distributed renewable energy systems.

A Study on the Optimal Welding Condition for Root-Pass in Horizontal Butt-Joint TIG Welding (수평자세 맞대기 TIG 초층용접에서 최적용접조건의 선정에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, to investigate the shape of the back bead as a weld quality parameter and to select the optimal condition of the root-pass TIG welding of a horizontal butt-joint, an experimental design and the response surface method (RSM) have been employed. Three parameters are used as input variables, which include the base current, peak current, and welding speed. The back bead width is selected as an output variable representing the weld quality, the target value of the width is 5.4 mm. Conducting the experiments according to the Box-Behnken experimental design, a $2^{nd}$ regression model for the back bead width was made, and the validation of the model was confirmed by using the F-test. The desirability function was designed through the nominal-the-best formula for the appropriate back bead width. Finally, the following optimal condition for welding was selected using the RSM: base current of 0.9204, peak current of 0.8676, and welding speed of 0.3776 in coded values. For verification, a test welding process under the optimal condition was executed and the result showed the back bead width of 5.38 mm that matched the target value well.

  • The distance optimizing between coil and magnetic materials never be specified in the magnetic materials acceleration using the coil till now. We can know to be the distance which optimizes when being in the half position about the distance of intercoil by the result of the max point on the Differential calculus. Whether several top and bottom current segment coil structures were made and the steel ball in which the current segment coil structure is the magnetic materials could be accelerated in the optimizing distance or not confirmed. When the coil valley current about the mass of the steel ball was known as the experiment and it was but to be the nose consequently it applied to the magnetic materials and magnetic fluid, the optimal distance was solved between the coil and material.

Calculation of the Costs and Optimal profits per Inpatient-day of the Geriatric Hospitals (노인병원의 재원환자 1인당 일평균 원가 및 적정이윤 계산)

  • It has been asserted that per diem payment system should be introduced, in place of the current fee-for-service system, for payment of the inpatient services of the geriatric hospitals, Based on the assentation, this study aims at calculating costs and profits per inpatient-day of the geriatric hospitals, and thereby at contributing to the managerial improvement from the both sides of the Government and the hospitals. Relevant data of the three months, May to August, 2002 were collected from the five geriatric hospitals, and per inpatient-day costs and profits were calculated for the three disease groups. Major results and conclusions are as follow : Firstly, total costs per insured inpatient-day of the geriatric hospitals are 65, 389 won for dementia (including optimal profit of 3,858 won), 69,730 won for stroke (including optimal profit of 4,117 won), and 70,085 won for other diseases (including optimal profit of 4,134 won). Secondly, the amount of the non-insured costs per inpatient-day occupies 34.5% of the total costs for dementia, 30.3% for stroke, and 30.1% for other diseases. Thirdly, the total amount of the per inpatient-day costs calculated including the optimal profits is, on the average, higher by 12% than the present price level calculated for the current fee-far-service system. This implies that the present price level should rise by 12% when the current fee-far-service payment system be maintained, and Finally, introduction of a sliding-scale payment system should be considered for the inpatient medical management fees for the length of stay over six months or more that are being cut in the claim examination process by the insurance corporation.

  • In this paper, optimal design of interleaved boost converters is studied in order to design low ripple, size, loss and high performance converters for fuel cell applications. Also, the process of optimal design of interleaved boost converter has been performed. Input current ripple, output voltage ripple, losses and capacity of electrical components are theoretically analyzed and informative simulation and experimental results are provided.

  • This paper develops an optimized torsional design method of asymmetric wall structures considering deformation capacities of walls. Contrary to the current torsional provisions, a deformation based torsional design is based on the assumption that stiffness and strength are dependent. Current torsional provisions specify two design eccentricity of stiffness to calculate the design forces of members. But such a methodology leads to an excessive over-strength of some members and an optimal torsional behavior is not ensured. Deformation-based torsional design uses displacement and rotation angle as design parameters and calculates base shear for inelastic torsional response directly. Because optimal torsional behavior can be defined based on the deformation of members, deformation based torsional design procedure can be applied to the optimal and performance-based torsional design. To consider the effect of accidental eccentricity, an over-strength factor is defined. The over-strength factor is determined from performance level, torsional resistance and arrangement of walls.

  • As well known, a solar cell has an optimal operating point to be able to get the maximum power $P_{max}$. So, many $P_{max}$ tracking controllers using the line voltage of a solar cell have been popularly used. But it may vary depending on the miss match between the solar cell output and the load. In this paper, we investigate the possibilities of $P_{max}$ control using the current tracking controller and the output voltage and the output current instead of the solar cell output power. And we also examine about the optimal power converter using ZVCS step up and down chopper circuit to operate the solar cell at an optimal voltage using these variables. And then, we show some experimental results to confirm the successful operation.
