  • In conventional optical data storage numerical aperture (NA) cannot be over 1 because of diffraction limit. To overcome this limitation. solid immersion lens(SIL) have produced a great interest in near-field optical data storage. In conventional optical recording method, the dual lens system using object lens and SIL had been studied generally. But the conventional SIL system has some critical problems that must be solved. The problems are heat, contamination. alignment of optical components and so on. To solve these problems. this work proposes enhanced SIL which has several advantages for mechanical and optical issues. This new SIL system named elliptic SIL(ESIL) can use evanescent energy in near-field more effectively. In addition. because of applying the inside recording unlike previous surface recording, ESIL can clear up the problems. The design and analysis of ESIL art executed by using CODE V. Also, in this paper we composed actual data recording system and achieved recording experiment by applying ESIL to magneto-optical recording. In conclusion. we analyze the improvement of aerial density and the reasonability of application to real data storage system.

  • ARGO-M is a satellite laser ranging (SLR) system developed by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute with the consideration of mobility and daytime and nighttime satellite observation. The ARGO-M optical system consists of 40 cm receiving telescope, 10 cm transmitting telescope, and detecting optics. For the development of ARGO-M optical system, the structural analysis was performed with regard to the optics and optomechanics design and the optical components. To ensure the optical performance, the quality was tested at the level of parts using the laser interferometer and ultra-high-precision measuring instruments. The assembly and alignment of ARGO-M optical system were conducted at an auto-collimation facility. As the transmission and reception are separated in the ARGO-M optical system, the pointing alignment between the transmitting telescope and receiving telescope is critical for precise target pointing. Thus, the alignment using the ground target and the radiant point observation of transmitting laser beam was carried out, and the lines of sight for the two telescopes were aligned within the required pointing precision. This paper describes the design, structural analysis, manufacture and assembly of parts, and entire process related with the alignment for the ARGO-M optical system.

플로팅 시스템이 적용된 카메라 광학계의 공차 분석 (Tolerance Analysis Method of Camera Optics Using Floating System)

  • 최근에 광학계에서 사용하는 촬상 소자의 화소 크기가 점차 작아지고 있기 때문에 광학계의 해상력 규격은 점차 높아지고 있다. 기존의 방법에서는 특정 렌즈군의 편심에 따른 수차 변화가 발생할 때, 광학계의 수차가 어느 정도 최소화되도록 특정 렌즈군의 편심량을 계산하는 방법으로 광학계의 해상력을 높여서 고화소의 광학계의 촬상 소자에 대응한다. 다만 기존의 방법은 특정 렌즈군의 편심에 따른 다른 특정 수차의 변화가 없어야 한다는 조건이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 제한 없이 플로팅 시스템이 적용된 카메라 광학계에서 임의로 두 개의 렌즈군을 선택해서 편심을 조절함으로써 카메라 광학계의 해상력을 높이는 새로운 방법을 제안하고자 한다.

  • A new concept of 22.9kV class revenue metering system based on the optical sensing technique was designed and implemented. This paper reports on the performance of a 22.9kV class three phase optical current/voltage metering scheme and three tariff metering system. This optoelectronic system was designed and developed to advance the state of the art in revenue metering. This paper deals with the characteristics of designed optical CPT (Current and Potential Transformer) and optoelectronic demand meter. The extensive field evaluation of the developed system with the existing oil filled transformer and solid state metering pair is undertaking. Upto now the operation of the optical revenue metering system under the field condition compares favorably with the existing system.

  • In this paper, inspection system based on optical scanning mechanism is designed and developed for solar cell wafer. It consists of optical scanning mechanism, NIR camera optics, machinery and control system, algorithm of defect detection and software. Optical scanning mechanism is composed of geometrical camera optics and structured hybrid illumination system. It is used to inspection of surface defects. NIR camera optics is used for inspection of defects inside solar cell wafer. It is shown that surface and internal micro defects can be detected in developed inspection system for solar cell wafer.

  • Guaranteeing survivability is the most important issue in designing and operating optical transmission network. For dual system of optical transmission network, there should be two routes of the optical to prepare an error in one cable route. If a route is selected based on the standard of unused optical core when choosing an optical cable, dual optical cable routes could be installed in duplicated line. This paper simulates the installation of duplicated line when designing an optical transmission network, detects the status of duplicated line that could happen during transfer construction and switching and accomplishes a system that can confirm the location based on a map.

  • 본 논문에서 광 네트워크에서 광 버스트 스위칭(Optical Burst Switching, OBS)과 광 회선 스위칭 (Optical Circuit Switching, OCS) 기술의 장점을 동시에 가지는 새로운 광 hybrid 스위칭(Optical Hybrid Switching) 시스템을 제안한다. 이 시스템은 들어오는 IP 트래픽을 hybrid 스위칭을 위해 짧은(short-lived) 흐름과 긴(long-lived) 흐름 구분한다. 성능 분석을 위하여 시스템을 Markovian 환경에서 단일 서버 큐로서 모델링 한다. 버스트 생성 프로세스는 two-state Markov Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP)를 따른다고 가정하고 서비스 율은 동시에 발생하는 OCS 세션의 수에 따라 변한다. OBS 버스트에 대한 평균 지연 및 큐 사이즈의 결과를 보인다.

Performance of All-Optical Multihop RoFSO Communication System over Gamma-Gamma Atmospheric Turbulence Channels

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of the all-optical multihop radio over a free space optical (RoFSO) communication system with amplify-and-forward (AF) relays under varying weather conditions. The proposed channel model considers the propagation loss, attenuation and atmospheric fading modeled by the Gamma-Gamma (GG) distribution. Both the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise in the all-optical relays and the background noise projected onto receiver apertures have been considered in the analysis. The lower bound analytical expressions for the end-to-end bit error rate (BER) and outage probability are derived for the multihop system employing the all-optical relays with the full channel state information (CSI). Meanwhile, the exact results for BER and outage probability are obtained via Monte Carlo simulation. Results indicate the performance of the proposed system will be improved by the multihop transmission technology. For a fixed number of relays, the BER and outage probability will be increased with the deterioration of the weather conditions.

광선로 운용감시 시스팀 개발 (The Development of Optical Fiber Line Operation and Monitor System)

  • Recently the optical fiber lines have been widely deployed in the trunk lines and digital data service network. The unexpected failures of optical fiber lines by natural disasters and road construction work have increased rear by rear and the number of damaged telecommunication lines per failures is on increasing. In the meantime, it takes long time to recover the optical fiber lines failures. So, it is important to maintain and monitor the status of optical fiber lines for prevention of optical fiber lines failures. Therefore, KT(Korea Telecom) needs efficient and automatic maintenance system to operate and monitor the optical fiber lines. FLOMS(Fiber Line Operation and Monitor System) had been developed in '96 and pilot system was installed at telephone offices in '97. This paper describes the FLOMS which carries out the functions of efficient maintenance and supports for monitoring optical fiber lines and managing facilities in optical fiber lines.

  • Optical add/drop multiplexers (OADMs), one of the new network elements, will play a key role enabling greater connectivity and flexibility in the dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) networks. The importance of OADMs is that they allow the optical network to be local transmitting/extraction on a wavelength-by-wavelength basis to optimize traffic, efficient network utilization, network growth, and to enhance network flexibility. Also, the automatic assembly system of micro optical filters and fibers is a key technology in the development of optical modules with high functionality. Recently, one of remarkable tends in the development of optical communication industry is the miniaturization and integration of products. In this research, we have developed a system capable of automatic alignment of a film filter and a lensed fiber in order to improve the speed and losses in the optical fiber to filter alignment of optical modules. Using the developed automatic alignment system and silicon optical benches, we have fabricated the micro OADM and measured the insertion loss and aging effect.
