  • In this study, Simplified Method for the Atmospheric Correction (SMAC) radiative transfer model (RTM) used to retrieve surface reflectance from MODIS Top Of Atmosphere (TOA) reflectance (MOD02). SMAC code provides coefficients which were previously yielded by Second Simulation of the Satellite Signal in the Solar Spectrum (6S) for each satellite sensor. We conducted error analysis of SMAC RTM using MOD02 over comparison with MODIS surface reflectance (MOD09) which was provided from 6S. It showed that low accuracy values such as, $R^2$ : 0.6196, Root Means Square Error (RMSE) : 0.00031, bias : - 0.0859. Thus sensitivity analysis of input parameters and coefficients was conducted to searching error sources. Coefficients about $\tau_p$ (average AOD) are more influence than any other coefficients of $\tau_{a550}$ (Aerosol Optical Depth at 550nm) from sensitivity test. Calibrated coefficients of $\tau_p$ from regression analysis were used to surface reflectance which showed that improve accuracy of surface reflectance ($R^2$ : 0.827, RMSE : 0.00672, bias : - 0.000762).

  • The changes in the optical anisotropy of the clean Cu(110) and the oxygen covered Cu(110) surfaces due to Cu growth have been studied by reflectance difference spectroscopy(RDS). We have monitored the growth mode of Cu atoms on Cu(110) and Cu(110)-(2XlO surfaces at 250K and checked the surfactant effect of oxygen during the Cu growth. For Cu grow on Cu(110) and Cu(110)-(2Xl)O surface at low temperature, we observed evidence for the layer-by-layer growth mode with change of 4.25eV peak intensity.

  • The influence of atmospheric aerosol on satellite ocean color data were evaluated using SeaWiFS monthly standard mapped image products. The atmospheric optical thickness (AOT) was increased in spring and summer, and it showed the strong positive correlation with remote sensing reflectance, normalized waterleaving radiance /solar irradiance, at 555 nm (Rrs555) which is a component of the satellite chlorophyll estimation. Such the high AOT and high Rrs555 pixels showed overestimation of satellite chlorophyll in spring, especially in the area which showed large phytoplankton absorption which 1s expressed by low remote sensing reflectance at 443, 490 and 510 nm (Rrs 443, Rrs490 and Rrs510).

  • For quantitative measurement of reflected light from a clinical diagnostic strip, a prototype old reflectance photometer was designed. The strip loader and cassette were made to obtain more accurate reflectance parameters. The strip was illuminated at 45˚c through optical fiber and the intensity of reflected light was determined at rectanguLat angle using a photodiode. The kubelka-munk coefficient and reflection optical density were determined ar four different wavelengths(500, 550, 570 and 610nm) for blood glucose strip. For higher concentration than 300mg/41 about glucose, a saturation state of abforbance was observed at 500, 550 and 570nm. The correlation between glucose concentration and parameters was the best at 610nm.

  • Effects of additing various types of ceramic fillers to the BZB-based glass on the thermo-chemical stability, optical reflectance, and mechanical properties were investigated. The glass system demonstrated the feasibility to host various types of ceramic fillers to form micro-composites at the processing temperature suitable for PDP systems. The optical reflectance and mechanical strength of the filler-glass composites were improved as compared to the glass itself. These results demonstrate the feasibility of applying the Pb-free BZB-based glass system as a matrix for employing various types of crystalline ceramic fillers to be used as barrier rib materials in plasma display panels.

  • A method for designing antireflection (AR) and antistatic (AS) films by the use of conducting polymer as an electrically conductive transparent layer is proposed. The conducting AR film is composed of four-layer with alternating high and low refractive index layer: silicon dioxide (n=1.44) and titanium dioxide (n=2.02) prepared at low temperature by sol-gel method are used as the low and high refractive index layer, respectively. The 3,4-polyethylenedioxythiophene (PEDOT) which has the sheet resistance of 10$^4$$\Omega$/$\square$ is used as a conductive layer. Optical constant of ARAS film was measured by the spectroscopic ellipsometer and from the measured optical constants the spectral properties such as reflectance and transmittance were simulated in the visible region. The reflectance of ARAS films on glass substrate was below 0.8 %R and the transmittance was higher than 95 % in the visible wavelength (400-700 nm). The measured AR spectral properties was very similar to its simulated results.

  • Low reflectance optical fiber mirrors in the continuous length of the single mode fiber were fabricated using mechanical splices and pieces of fiber coated with $TiO_{2}$ dielectric film at the cleaved end. When fiber mirrors of refelctance of about 1% were produced, the insertion loss ranged from 0.055dB to 0.3dB and the average insertion loss was 0.15 dB. These mirrors could be produced easy in the field.

  • ITO/Ni/ITO thin films were deposited on the PET by RF magnetron sputtering. Dependance of the process parameters such as deposition pressure, positions of Ni layer, on the transmittance, reflectance and sheet resistance of ITO/Ni/ITO film were investigated. When the Ni layer is placed at the center of ITO and deposition pressure is low, ITO/Ni/ITO films showed better optical and electrical properties. At these conditions, the transmittance, reflectance and sheet resistance of the ITO film were $90\%,\;0.38\%$ and $185\Omega/\Box$ respectively.

  • This paper reports a preliminary experimental investigation and characterization of an optical fiber-based submersion sensor system for applications in water flooding and leakage. The sensor system comprises a multi-mode fiber spliced with fiber Bragg grating and an intensity-based interrogator. Submersion tests were conducted in water-air and Glycerin-air environments. By the refractive index of the fiber-probe surrounding materials, the reflectance and the detecting power level is determined. When the probe is dipped into the water, the optical output power dramatically decreases from -7.5dBm to -17.5dBm. But, the center of Bragg wavelength is not affected in spite of external material changes. Temporal response characteristics of the sensor system is investigated to verify the real-time reaction. When the probe is immersed into the liquid, there is no transition time.

  • Tissue optics is a well-established and extensively studied area. In the last decades, Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) has been one of the standard tools for simulation of light propagation in turbid media. The utilization of parallel processing exhibits dramatic increase in the speed of MCS's of photon migration. Some calculations based on MCS can be completed within a few seconds. Since the MCS's have the potential to become a real time calculation method, a dynamic accuracy estimation, which is also known as history by history statistical estimators, is required in the simulation code to automatically terminate the MCS as the results' accuracy achieves a high enough level. In this work, spatial and time-domain GPU-based MCS, adopting the dynamic accuracy estimation, are performed to calculate the light dose/reflectance in homogeneous and heterogeneous tissue media. This dynamic accuracy estimation can effectively derive the statistical error of optical dose/reflectance during the parallel Monte Carlo process.
