Single mode pulsed incidence dye laser which has TEMoo spatial beam pattern, near gaussian temporal shape and narrow band width(less than 500MHz) has been constructed The improved performance comes as a results of cavity length(~5cm) and definition of optical path by means of longitudinal pumping. Using 1.0X10-4M RH-6G dye, conversion efficiency was approximately 2.2% and tuning range was 548-564nm.
An improved low coherence interferometer system and a new analysis method for the accurate measurement of the optical path difference error of an AWG (Arrayed-Waveguide Grating) are described. The use of software simplifies the experimental setup by eliminating the hardware (clock generator). In addition, the actual distances between the peak positions of the adjacent interference signals are calculated using interpolation methods. The wavelength transmission characteristics of the AWG are calculated assuming the measured phase errors. The calculated AWG characteristic is quite similar to the actual measurement result, confirming accuracy of the proposed measurement setup.
A highly sensitive optical-fiber humidity sensor is demonstrated in this paper. By using Nafion-PVA sol-gel and single-mode optical fibers, the Fabry-Perot humidity sensor is easily fabricated. In the humidity range of 29%-72%, humidity-response experiments are carried out with a cycle of rising and falling humidity to investigate humidity-response characteristics. The experimental results show 2.25 nm/%RH sensitivity and a 0.9997 linear correlation coefficient, with good consistency. The changes in optical-path difference (OPD) and free spectral range (FSR) with humidity are also discussed. The humidity sensitivities of a typical sensor are 80.3 nm/%RH (OPD) and 0.03 nm/%RH (FSR). Furthermore, many humidity sensors with different Nafion-PVA sol-gel concentration and initial cavity length are experimentally investigated for humidity response. The results show that the sensitivity increases with higher Nafion ratio of the Nafion-PVA sol-gel. The influence of changing cavity length on sensitivity is not obvious. These results are helpful to research on optical-fiber humidity sensors with good performance, easy fabrication, and low cost.

A method for measuring optical properties of biological medium was investigated by using the frequency domain spectroscopy. When amplitude-modulated light with the frequency of several tens up to several hundred MHz propagates through a scattering medium, the phase lag and the amplitude reduction occur. The phase lag depends on the average of optical path lengths. The amplitude reduction with respect to the radial distance is influenced by the penetration depth. The mean of optical path length and penetration depth are related to optical coefficients. The phase lag and the amplitude reduction were measured based on the heterodyne detection method. The experimental data were fitted with the theoretical curves derived from diffusion theory and the absorption and scattering coefficients were calculated.
We investigated the optimum pump light power compensating distorted WDM signal due to both chromatic dispersion and self phase modulation (SPM). The considered system is $3{\times}40$ Gbps intensity modulation direct detection (IM/DD) WDM transmission system with path-averaged intensity approximation (PAIA) mid-span spectral inversion (MSSI) as compensation method. This system have highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber (HNL-DSF) as nonlinear medium of optical phase conjugator (OPC) in the mid-way of total transmission line. We confirmed that HNL-DSF is an useful nonlinear medium in OPC for wideband WDM transmission, and the excellent compensation is obtained when the pump light power of HNL-DSF OPC was selected to equalize the conjugated light power into the second half fiber section with the input WDM signal light power depending on total transmission length. By this approach, it is verified the possibility to realize a long-haul high capacities WDM system by using PAIA MSSI compensation method, which have HNL-DSF OPC with optimal pump light power depending on transmission length.
A new signal processing algorithm for white light interferometry has been proposed and investigated theoretically. The goal of the algorithm is to determine the absolute optical path length of an interferometer with very high precision (<< one optical wavelength). The algorithm features cross-correlation of interferometer fringe scans and hypothesis testing. The hypothesis test looks for a zero order fringe peak candidate about which the cross-correlation is symmetric minimizing the uncertainty of misidentification. The shot noise limited performance of the proposed signal processing algorithm has been analyzed using computer simulations. Simulation results were extrapolated to predict the misidentification rate at Signal to-Shot noise ratio (SNR) higher than 31 dB. Root-mean-square phase error between the computer-generated zero order fringe peak and the estimated zero order fringe peak has been calculated for the changes of three different parameters (SNR, fringe scan sampling rate, coherence length of light source). Results of computer simulations showed the ability of the proposed signal processing algorithm to identify the zero order fringe peak correctly. The proposed signal processing algorithm uses a software approach, which is potentially inexpensive, simple and fast.

Assay of biomolecules based on absorption spectroscopy is a sensitive, minute, quantitative, rapid and real-time process. UV-vis spectrometry has inherent advantages for use in analytical applications. To reduce the consumption of scarce samples, a new generation of miniaturized UV-vis spectrometric systems has been developed. This study determined empirically and through simulations the feasibility of assaying biomolecules by means of UV-vis spectrometry. This paper also reports a fully integrated portable micro-detection equipment system that utilizes a micro-optical path for analysis of micro-volume samples.

Various methods for analyze optical components which are necessary before the fabrication of optical circuit component and as its applications, designing method of Wavelength Division Multiplexer(WDM) filter using arrayed-waveguide grating(AWG) is paper. In the case of analyzing uniform optical waveguide, effective index method(EIM), harmonic expansion method are used, and in the case of non-uniform optical waveguide, beam propagation method(BPM) are used. In this paper, to use arrayed-waveguide grating as WDM filter of centered wavelength of $1.55{\mu}m$ and wavelength spacing of 0.8nm, all of the parameter of AWG is calculated by the HEM and the BPM using EIM. As a result of calculation, free spectral range is 12.8nm, focal length $9336.55{\mu}m$, path difference $129.36{\mu}m$ and the number of slab waveguide 91 when the distance of core center to center on row land circle is $20{\mu}m$.

In this paper, we have studied the OCT(Optical Coherence Tomography) system which has been advantages of high resolution, 2-D cross-sectional images, low cost and small size configuration. The characteristics of light source determine the resolution and coherence length. The light source has a commercial SLD with a central wavelength of 1,285 ill11, 35.3 nm(FWHM). The optical delay line is necessary to make equal with the optical path length to scattered light or reflected light from a sample. In order to make equal the optical path length, the stage that is attached to a reference mirror is controled by a step motor. And the interferometer is configured with the Michelson interferometer by using a single mode fiber, and the scanner can be focused on the sample by using a reference ann Also, the 2-dimension cross-sectional images were measured with scanning the transverse direction of the sample by using a step motor. After detecting the internal signal of lateral direction, a scanner is moved to obtain the cross-sectional image of 2-dimension by using step motor. A photodiode, which has high detection sensitivity and excellent noise characteristics has been used. The detected small signal has a noise and interference. After filtering and amplifying the signal, the output signal is demodulated the waveform And then, a cross-sectional image is seen through converting this signal into a digitalized signal by using an AID converter. The resolution of the sample is about 30${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, which corresponds to the theoretical resolution. Also, the cross-sectional images of onion cells were measured in real time scheme.
An Nd:YAG slab structure was designed for a high-power zigzag slab laser amplifier based on computational simulation of the wavefront distortion. For the simulation, the temperature distribution in the slab was calculated at first by thermal analysis. Then, the optical path length (OPL) was obtained by a ray tracing method for the corresponding refractive index variation inside the slab. After that, the OPL distribution of the double-pass amplified beam was calculated by summing the results obtained for the first and second passes. The amount of wavefront distortion was finally obtained as the peak-to-valley value of the OPL distribution. As a result of this study, the length and position of the gain medium were optimized by minimizing the transverse wavefront distortion. Under the optimized conditions, the transverse wavefront distortion of the double-pass amplified beam was less than $0.2{\mu}m$ for pump power of 14 kW.
