  • Stimulated polariton scattering from the $B_1$-symmetry modes of a $KNbO_3$ crystal to generate a terahertz wave (THz-wave) with a noncollinear phase-matching scheme is investigated. The frequency-tuning characteristics of the THz-wave by varying the phase-matching angle and pump wavelength are analyzed. The expression for the effective parametric gain length under the noncollinear phase-matching condition is deduced. Parametric gain and absorption characteristics of the THz-wave in $KNbO_3$ are theoretically simulated. The characteristics of $KNbO_3$ for a terahertz parametric oscillator (TPO) are compared to those of $MgO:LiNbO_3$. The analysis indicates that $KNbO_3$ is an excellent optical crystal for a TPO, to enhance the THz-wave output.

  • We have used a mid-IR (mid-infrared) continuous-wave (cw) optical parametric oscillator (OPO), developed previously and described in Ref. 12, to build a performance-evaluation setup for a mid-IR spectrometer. The used CW OPO had a wavelength tuning range of $ 2.5-3.6{\mu}m$ using a pump laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm and a fan-out MgO-doped periodically poled lithium niobate (MgO:PPLN) nonlinear crystal in a concentric cavity design. The OPO was combined with a near-IR integrating sphere and a Fourier-transform IR optical spectrum analyzer to build a performance-evaluation setup for mid-IR spectrometers. We applied this performance-evaluation setup to evaluating a mid-IR spectrometer developed domestically, and demonstrated the capability of evaluating the performance, such as spectral resolution, signal-to-noise ratio, spectral stray light, and so on, based on this setup.

  • $KNbO_3$is one of the best materials for efficient nonlinear frequency conversion, due to its large nonlinear optical coefficient ($d_{33}$ = 20.6 pm/V), wide transparency range (0.4 ~ 5 $\mu$m) and freedom from photorefractive effects. Quasi-phase-matched second harmonic generation using periodically poled $KNbO_3$ (PPKN) crystals has been reported. Here we report on fabrication of PPKN and demonstration of a pulsed optical param etric oscillator (QPM OPO) pumped by an Nd:YAG laser. (omitted)

  • In this project, we have developed the eye-safe LRF system of 1.54 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ wavelength using OPO. The maximum measured distance was 3.7km in outdoor experiment. We used Nd:YAG (1064nm) as a laser medium. It was applied BBO to construct the system. We also developed a time-counter for the range finder using a method of TOF (time of flight). The counter-clock used at the time counter was 320MHz making resolution within $\pm$1m. Start and stop signals were detected by two channel systems using PIN and APD. The LRF's repetition rate was 4 times per minute. The energy was measured to be over 9mJ. And, pulse-duration was 23ns. Resolution was $\pm$2m at the distance measurement using a target.

  • This paper describes preliminary discussions on spatial distribution of NO density, which is mostly contained in simulated NOX exhaust, between a wire-cylinder geometry discharge gaps by using Laser Induced Fluorescence(LIF) Spectroscopy. Spatial distribution of NO density will be measured with varying NO concentrations from 166 to 644[ppm] and diameters of central electrode from 6 to 10mm. Pulsed Nd:YAG laser, Optical Parametric Oscillator(OPO), and Frequency Doubler are used to excite NO molecules to their excited state.
