The life of a power transformer is dependent on the life of the cellulose paper, which influenced by the hot spot temperature. Thus, the determination of the cellulose paper's life requires identifying the hot spot temperature of the transformer. Currently, however, the power transformer uses a heat run test is used in the factory test to measure top liquid temperature rise and average winding temperature rise, which is specified in its specification. The hot spot temperature is calculated by the winding resistance detected during the heat run test. This paper measures the hot spot temperature in the single-phase, 154kV, 15/20MVA power transformer by the optical fiber sensors and compares the value with the hot spot temperature calculated by the conventional heat run test in the factory test. To measure the hot spot temperature, ten optical fiber sensors were installed on both the high and low voltage winding; and the temperature distribution during the heat run test, three thermocouples were installed. The hot spot temperature shown in the heat run test was $92.6^{\circ}C$ on the low voltage winding. However, the hot spot temperature as measured by the optical fiber sensor appeared between turn 2 and turn 3 on the upper side of the low voltage winding, recording $105.9^{\circ}C$. The hot spot temperature of the low voltage winding as measured by the optical fiber sensor was $13.3^{\circ}C$ higher than the hot spot temperature calculated by the heat run test. Therefore, the hot spot factor (H) in IEC 60076-2 appeared to be 2.0.
Distributed fiber-optic acoustic·vibration sensing technology is becoming increasingly popular in many industrial and academic areas such as in securing large edifices, exploring underground seismic activity, monitoring oil well/reservoir, etc. Long-range perimeter intrusion detection exemplifies an application that not only detects intrusion, but also pinpoints where it happens and recognizes kinds of threats made along the perimeter where a single fiber cable was installed. In this study, we developed a distributed fiber-optic sensing device that measures a distributed acoustic·vibration signature (pattern) for intrusion detection. In addition, we demontrate the proposed deep learning algorithm and how it classifies various intrusion events. We evaluated the sensing device and deep learning algorithm in a practical testbed setup. The evaluation results confirm that the developed system is a promising intrusion detection system for long-distance and seamless recognition requirements.
두 대의 펄스 레이저를 사용한 BOTDA(Brillouin optical time-domain analysis)의 이론적 연구가 수행되었다.
Measurement of blade strain with sensors directly installed on the blade has one critical issue, how to send the sensor signal to the ground. Strain-gauges have been dominantly used to directly measure stress of a blade and either a slip ring or a telemetry system has to be used to send measured signal to the ground. However, both systems have many inherent problems and sometimes very severe limitations to be practically used. In this paper, new on-line strain monitoring method using. FBG(Fiber Bragg Grating) sensors and a beam coupler is introduced. Measurement of rotor stress using FBG sensors is nothing new, but unlike other system which installs all necessary instruments on the rotor and use telemetry system to send data to the ground, this system makes use of light's unique characteristic - light travels through space. In this new approach, single optical fiber with many FBG sensors is installed on the blade and all other necessary instruments can be installed at ground thereby giving tremendous advantages over slip ring or telemetry system. A reference sensor is also introduced to compensate the beam coupler's transmission loss change due to rotation. The suggested system's good performance is demonstrated with experiments.
In this study, a V-grooved single-mode fiber along with optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) as a quasi-distributed temperature sensor was investigated. The external medium used to fill the V-groove affects the optical mode. The V-groove was filled with ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) because its transmittance was sensitive to temperature. The experimental results showed that the optical loss of the sensor varies with temperature, and the sensitivity depends on the depth of the V-groove.
We have investigated a refractive index sensor based on a cladded plastic optical fiber taper. The optical transmission and sensing characteristics of the device were illuminated in terms of ray optics. The sensor devices showed that the optical transmittance strongly depends on the refractive index of the external medium surrounding the tapered region.
