This paper investigates the problem of protecting multicast sessions in mesh wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) networks against single link failures, for example, a fiber cut in optical networks. First, we study the two characteristics of multicast sessions in mesh WDM networks with sparse light splitter configuration. Traditionally, a multicast tree does not contain any circles, and the first characteristic is that a multicast tree has better performance if it contains some circles. Note that a multicast tree has several branches. If a path is added between the leave nodes on different branches, the segment between them on the multicast tree is protected. Based the two characteristics, the survivable multicast sessions routing problem is formulated into an Integer Linear Programming (ILP). Then, a heuristic algorithm, named the adaptive shared segment protection (ASSP) algorithm, is proposed for multicast sessions. The ASSP algorithm need not previously identify the segments for a multicast tree. The segments are determined during the algorithm process. Comparisons are made between the ASSP and two other reported schemes, link disjoint trees (LDT) and shared disjoint paths (SDP), in terms of blocking probability and resource cost on CERNET and USNET topologies. Simulations show that the ASSP algorithm has better performance than other existing schemes.
최근 광통신 용량은 VoIP, AUdio/Video 스트리밍의 멀티미디어 서비스 수요로 인한 정보통신 용량의 증가에 비례하여 증가하고 있다. 초고속 광통신망에서 추가적인 광섬유망과 고속장비 없이 이를 해결하기 위한 방법으로 DWDM(Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) 기법이 대두되고 있다.
The communication through optical fiber is taking an important role of the expansion of communication network with excellent transmitting rate and quality. As the optical communication is introduced to the backbone network at first and becomes a general communication method of network, the demand of kernel parts of optical communication such as PLC(Planar Light Circuit), Coupler, and WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) element increases. The alignment and the attachment technology are very important in the fabrication of optical elements. In this paper, the driving mechanism of ultra precision stage is studied with the aim of optimal design of stage. The travel and the resolution of stage are investigated. The hysteresis of the stage is generated because of PZT actuator. The hysteresis and the inverse hysteresis are modeled in X, Y, and Z-axis motion. The input data of desired displacement of the stage according to input voltage is obtained from the inverse hysteresis equation. In the result of experiments with the input data, the errors due to hysteresis are well compensated.
The bit walk-off effect caused by fiber dispersion and carrier reuse in the base station (BS) are two key problems in radio-over-fiber (ROF) systems. In this paper, a novel frequency-octupling ROF system based on the Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) is proposed, which can overcome the bit walk-off effect and realize carrier reuse by inserting pilot signals. Theoretical analysis and simulation verification of the system are carried out. Under the condition of a Q factor greater than 6, the optical fiber transmission distance of the upper and lower links is more than 290 km and 80 km, respectively. The influence of the main device parameters of the system on the Q factor is analyzed when they deviate from their designed values. The system designed in this paper can not only effectively overcome the bit walk-off effect, but also solve the problem of downlink performance degradation and the limitation of tunability caused by conventional carrier reuse in ROF. The system can greatly increase the transmission distance and improve the performance of the system and has an important application prospect in ROF.
In this paper, we developed the automatic optical fiber aligner by image processing and automatic loading system. Optical fiber is indispensable for optical communication systems that transmit large volumes of data at high speed, but super-precision technology in sub-micron units is required for optical axis adjustment, we have developed 6-axis micro stage system for I/O optical fiber arrays, the initial automatic aligning system/software for a input optical array by the image processing technique, fast I/O-synchronous aligning strategy, the automatic loading/unloading system and the automatic UV bonding mechanism. In order to adjust the alignment it used on PC based motion controller, a $10\mu\textrm{mm}$ repeat-detailed drawing of automatic loading system is developed by a primary line up for high detailed drawing. Also, at this researches used the image processing system and algorithm instead of the existing a primary hand-line up. and fiber input array and waveguide chip formed in line by automatic. Therefore, the developed and manufactured optical aligning system in this research fulfills the great role of support industry for major electronics manufacturers, telecommunications companies, universities, government agencies and other research institutions.

We created a new design for an Nd-doped clad-pumped silica fiber laser to enhance the pump absorption and lasing efficiency for a butt-coupled, end-pumped scheme. Two concatenated adiabatic tapers formed within the laser cavity simultaneously removed higher order modes and were spliced to conventional single mode fibers. We theoretically analyzed mode propagation along the composite cavity and experimentally achieved continuous wave oscillation in the $LP_{01}$ mode at $1.06\;{\mu}m$ and a laser output power of over 820 mW with a slope efficiency of 27%.
We demonstrate an acousto-optic mode converter based on a tapered optical fiber to efficiently generate orbital angular momentum states of light. In our scheme an acoustic wave is deployed to the waist of tapered optical fiber where two degenerate $HE_{21}$ modes leading to +1 and -1 orbital angular momentum eigen-modes are resonantly excited. The excitation of $TM_{01}$ and $TE_{01}$ modes is suppressed by enlarging the intermodal index difference between near-degenerate spatial modes. Numerical calculation for optimization of the taper diameter is provided. The experimental characterization of generated states is performed by analyzing the output far-field pattern and the spatial interference fringes with a uniform reference beam.
We determined the feasibility of a fishing camera system using an optical fiber as the fishing line by testing a power-over-fiber (POF) module and multimode optical fiber. Operation of the remote camera module (RCM) without the battery was preferred because the removal of the charging or battery replacement section enabled a waterproof single-body type design. The average efficiency of the photovoltaic power converter (PPC) in the tested POF module was 32.6% at 820 nm, and thus, a high-power laser of at least 1.27 W was required for operating the developed RCM with an electrical dissipation of 413 mW. Because the optical fiber was wound on a fishing reel, composite loss composed of bending and tensile loss occurred. To mitigate the composite loss, we employed a simple holder that showed an improvement in the composite loss of 0.38 dB to 0.8 dB, which was considerably better than the losses without the holder.
In this paper the effect of chaos induced instability in Brillouin-active fiber-ring sensor is described. The inherent optical feedback by the backscattered Stokes wave in optical fiber leads to instabilities in the form of optical chaos. The paradigm of optical chaos in fiber serves as a test for fundamental study of chaos and its suppression and exploitation in practical application in communication and sensing. At weak power, the nature of the Brillouin instability can occur at before threshold. At strong power, the temporal evolution above threshold is periodic and at higher intensity can become chaotic. The threshold for the Brillouin instability in fiber-ring sensor is much lower than the threshold of the normal Brillouin instability process.
Data transmission capacity that is required in 2010 is forecasted that increase by optical communication capacity more than present centuple, and is doing increased demand of optical communication related industry product present. Specially, Lid glass' application that is one of optical communication parts is used in optical communication parts manufacture of Fiber array, Ferrule array, Fanout Black, Silica optical waveguide chip and splitter etc. Also, it is used widely for communication network system, CATV, ATM-PON, FTTH and system. But, Lid glass need much processing times and becomes cause in rising prices of optical communication parts because production cost is expensive. The objectives, of this work is to suggest the micro concave and convex pattern manufacturing technology on borosilicate plate using high temperature and compression molding method. As a result, could developed micro pattern Mold more than 5 pattern, and reduce Lid Glass manufacture cycle time.
