Functional Designs of Metal oxide for Transparent Electronics

  • Transparent materials are necessary for most photoelectric devices, which allow the light generation from electric energy or vice versa. Metal oxides are usual materials for transparent conductors to have high optical transmittance with good electrical properties. Functional designs may apply in various applications, including solar cells, photodetectors, and transparent heaters. Nanoscale structures are effective to drive the incident light into light-absorbing semiconductor layer to improve solar cell performances. Recently, the new metal oxide materials have inaugurated functional device applications. Nickel oxide (NiO) is the strong p-type metal oxide and has been applied for all transparent metal oxide photodetector by combining with n-type ZnO. The abrupt p-NiO/n-ZnO heterojunction device has a high transmittance of 90% for visible light but absorbs almost entire UV wavelength light to show the record fastest photoresponse time of 24 ms. For other applications, NiO has been applied for solar cells and transparent heaters to induce the enhanced performances due to its optical and electrical benefits. We discuss the high possibility of metal oxides for current and future transparent electronic applications.

  • With the great demand for WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) optical communications, optical switches are expected to become one of the dominant components in future networks. Conventional mechanical switches suffer from poor reliability and large size; however, many micromachined optical switches with moving mirrors have been proposed for high scale OXC (Optical Crossconnect) or ADM (Add/Drop Multiplex) because of the low power consumption and high reliability of these switches. In this paper, we introduce the technological trends of optical switches using MEMS, related micromachining technologies and their characteristics.

  • The 3rd order nonlinear properties show Optical bleaching (Saturation) and Reverse saturation in absorption aspect, whereas Self-focusing[3][4] and Self-defocusing in refraction aspect. Optical bleaching and Self-focusing phenomena of those properties in particular can be useful to make the optical beam spot size smaller for application on the higher optical storage density.   • In this paper, using optical effect of characteristics of GaAs compound, two potential application of optical controlled GaAs MESFET are demonstrated` detector, microwave amplifier gain control. These lead to the possibility of the interaction with optical devices. The preliminary experiments show the light induced voltage, the increase in the drain currnet and the change in the microwave scattering parameters of GaAs MESFET under optical illumination(He-Ne laser). And imcrowave amplifier gain is round to be varied with changing in intensity of optical illumination.

  • The Internet traffic is forecasted to grow at a compound annual rate of 21 % from 2013 to 2018, according to surveys carried out by Cisco [1]. Network resources are significantly over-provisioned in today's networks, and it is quite common to see link utilization in the 30-40% range [2]. Additionally, the multi-media services have widely divergent bandwidth and Quality of Experience (QoE) requirements. Unfortunately, the huge transmission capacity will increase the power consumption of network equipment [3]. Applications Coordinated with Transport, Internet Protocol and Optical Networks (ACTION) [4] has been proposed to realize a multi-QoE, application-centric, and highly energy-efficient network that leverages flexible elastic optical network technologies [5-7]. This paper provides key network technologies for realizing the ACTION, which are a virtual optical slice core network and a Time Division Multiplexing (TDM)-based deterministic active optical access network.

  • A $Nd:YVO_4$ laser dual-end-pumped by a wavelength-locked 878.6 nm laser diode is presented. At the repetition rate of 500 KHz, the absorbed pump power of 58 W, an output power of 26.1 W at 1064 nm is obtained, corresponding to an optical-optical efficiency of 45%. The pulse width is 44.2 ns. Meanwhile, the effects of traditional 808 nm pumping and 878.6 nm dual-end-pumping on the output laser beam quality and pulse width are compared and analyzed in an experiment.

  • 중적외선 분광학(mid-IR spectrocopy) 에서는 2.5~15 $\mu\textrm{m}$ 의 파장을 갖는 적외선을 시료에 조사하여 absorption spectrum 을 측정하는데 이 대역은 주로 분자들의 fundamental band 가 나타나는 영역으로 각 분자의 characteristic absorption band 가 비교적 깨끗하게 분리되어 있어 특정 compound 의 존재 유무를 확인하는데 쓰여 왔다. 그러나 보통의 경우에 시료에는 한 가지 화합물만이 존재하는 것이 아니고 여러 가지 화합물이 섞여 있는 경우가 많다.
