Optimized Working Distance of a Micro-optic OCT Imaging Probe

  • We have investigated optimization of the working distance (WD) for a highly miniaturized imaging probe for endoscopic optical coherence tomography (OCT). The WD is the axial distance from the distal end of the imaging probe to its beam focus, which is demanded for dimensional margins of protective structures, operational safety, or full utilization of the axial imaging range of OCT. With an objective lens smaller than a few hundred micrometers in diameter, a micro-optic imaging probe naturally exhibits a very short WD due to the down-scaled optical structure. For a maximized WD careful design is required with the optical aperture of the objective lens optimally filled by the incident beam. The diffraction-involved effect was taken into account in our analysis of the apertured beam. In this study, we developed a simple design formula on the maximum achievable WD based on our diffraction simulation. It was found that the maximum WD is proportional to the aperture size squared. In experiment, we designed and fabricated very compact OCT probes with long WDs. Our 165-㎛-thick fiber-optic probes provided WDs of 3 mm or longer w ith reasonable OCT imaging performance.

  • Digital environment that is represented to internet is displacing business way of industry and business achievement way with the fast speed being giving great change on life whole, improve existence business process utilizing internet and Web connection technology, information superhighway to tradition industrialist manufacture and e-transformation's propulsion that wish to maximize productivity and administration efficiency Is spread vigorously. In this paper, we wish to accomplish generation equipment's heighten stability and believability through remote monitoring and control of PV system. This paper describes the design of the monitoring system for sensing the monitoring data and indirect controlling of the PV system. Most of the conventional monitoring system depend on the special hardware and software. Basic design goal of monitoring system is to provide the convenience for the user and the portability for the system. In order for the system to fulfill its requirements, it was designed using Labview GUI facility based on the Windows 2000 environment of IBM PC compatible and Add-on card based on the TCP/IP protocol. Advantage of the monitoring system are a personnel expenses curtailment effect, free of the place restriction and unmanned system of the generation plants, etc..

도로용 압전발전발판 설계 및 발전특성 평가 (Design and Electrical Properties of Piezoelectric Energy Harvester for Roadway)

  • Piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH) as a box type was fabricated in order to harvest mechanical energy imparted to roadways from passing vehicles and convert it into electricity. The PEH was composed of 72 piezoelectric cantilevers with 9 springs with elasticity stick to a bottom of the PEH. For the single piezoelectric cantilever, when a single push with approximately 5 mm displacement was incident to it, power of 0.355 mW was produced at $100\;k{\Omega}$. It is found that the power from the single piezoelectric cantilever increases when spring constant is high. We investigated power of PEH when the moving vehicle passes in it. Power was increased with increasing vehicle speed. When vehicle speed is 30 km/h, power is 20.6 mW.

  • 열상장비용 줌망원경계통을 설계하였다. 대물경계는 4배로부터 14배까지 배율이 변화할 수 있는 줌광학계통으로 설계하였고 접안경은 초점거리 25mm의 삼중렌즈계통으로 설계하였다. 처음에는 대물경계와 접안경을 구분하여 설계하고 후에 이를 통합하여 무초점계로 설계하였다. 1st order optics에 의해 계통을 확립하고 3rd order optics에 의해 초기설계를 얻었으며 후에 유한광선추적으로 모든 고차수차를 포함하는 ray aberration 또는 angular aberration이 최소가 되도록 최적화 하였다. 최종설계를 회절광학적 MTF를 계산하여 성능을 평가하였다.

  • This paper describes the development of a new type of an integrated optical adjustable attenuator using magneto-optic effects in 4-layer slab waveguide. The characteristics of the proposed structure are analyzed and evaluated. Furthermore, the fabrication method and attenuation characteristics have been tested by experimets, therby confirming qualitatively the validity of the design theory.

  • A binary linear integer program is formulated for the problem of expanding the capacity of a fiber optic network and routing the traffic to deliver new interactive multimedia services. A two-phase Lagrangian dual search procedure and a Lagrangian heuristic are developed. Computational results show superior performance of the two-phase subgradient optimization compared with the conventional one-phase approach.

  • Using the repeaters is indispensable to WiBro services. Repeater types are distinguished by usage, output power and required performance. In the paper, we have studied on the WiBro digital optic repeater design which has excellent performance characteristic than any other repeaters. WiBro has specific characteristic on modulation method TDD(Time Division Duplex)/OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) so that it demands specified H/W to design WiBro repeater. Switching technique has been introduced because of TDD characteristic in each amplifier on the repeater. Time Advance technique has been considered because of OFDM characteristic among RAS(Radio Access Station) and repeater. In this paper, we have studied on these techniques to increase repeater cell coverage and distance between RAS and repeater.

  • A Design and Fabrication of 565 Mbit/s Optical Fiber Transmission Link We calculated the transfer functions of optical channel components and formulated the optimum transfer function of optical receiver for optical transmission to show a design rule of fiber optical link for digital transmission. And we evaluated various causes of sensitivity degradation to determine the receiver specification. Also we fabricated and demonstrated a 565Mbit/s single mode fiber optic link, 27km, to show the practicality of designed fiber optic link. The output power of the transmitter was above -3dBm, and the sensitivity of the optical receiver was -37.8dBm which is the same value we expected. Also the dynamic range was more than 25dB.

Fiber optic shape sensor system for a morphing wing trailing edge

  • The objective of this work is to present a conceptual design and the modelling of a distributed sensor system based on fiber optic devices (Fiber Bragg Grating, FBG), aimed at measuring span-wise and chord-wise variations of an adaptive (morphing) trailing edge. The network is made of two different integrated solutions for revealing deformations of the reference morphing structure. Strains are confined to typical values along the span (length) but they are expected to overcome standard ranges along the chord (width), up to almost 10%. In this case, suitable architectures may introduce proper modulations to keep the measured deformation low while preserving the information content. In the current paper, the designed monitoring system combines the use of a span-wise fiber reinforced patch with a chord-wise sliding beam. The two elements make up a closed grid, allowing the reconstruction of the complete deformed shape under the acceptable assumption that the transformation refers to regular geometry variations. Herein, the design logic and some integration issues are reported. Preliminary experimental test results are finally presented.

LED 등명기 경량화를 위한 복합재료 적용 기초 연구 (A Basic Study on the Application of Composite Materials for the Light-weight LED Beacon)

  • 본 연구에서 고출력 LED를 개발하였고 등명기의 경량화 설계를 위한 복합재료의 적용에 대해 검토하였다. 복합재료의 적용을 통해 수직 변형량이 17% 감소하였고 전체중량은 알루미늄 소재 적용 대비 20% 감소에 해당하는 8.9 kg을 줄일 수 있었다. 방열 특성 측정 결과, 외기온도 $20^{\circ}C$ 조건에서 LED 패키지의 최고온도는 $63.5^{\circ}C$로 측정되었다. LED 패키지의 성능 및 수명을 고려할 때 적합한 온도 수준이다. 본 연구에서는 고출력 LED 등명기의 경량화를 위한 복합재료의 적용 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.
