Objective : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medicine treatment on rhinosinusitis by showing OMU(ostiomeatal unit) CT(computed tomography). Methods : The clinical study was done on 5 cases of rhinosinusitis patients diagnosed by OMU CT. The patients were treated with herbal medicine and acupuncture. OMU CT was taken after treatment. Results & Conclusions : After treatment, 5 rhinosinusitis patients were improved in symptoms and remarkable resolutions of rhinosinusitis in OMU CT were observed. These results suggest that Korean medical therapy could be a safe and effective intervention in rhinosinusitis and we need to have more studies for objective evaluations of Korean medicine treatment.

Objectives : This study is designed to investigate the effects of Korean medical therapy on 2 Alopecia areata. Methods : This is a case report on 2 patients who has been suffering from alopecia areata. To reduce their symptoms, we provided with internal herbal medicine 2 times a day, acupuncture therapy and Hwangryunhaedok-tang herbal-acupuncture therapy for three or four months. Results : After series of treatments, the symptoms of Alopecia areata were remarkably improved. Conclusions : This study shows us that Korean medical treatment effects on Alopecia areata.

Objective : This study was carried out to analyze the trends of Acne related articles that have been published in the Journal of Korean Medicine Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology & Dermatology(JKOOD). Method : We studied 29 research papers relevant to Acne that published in JKOOD from 1998 to 2013. All the paper were classified into three categories; original article, review article and case report. We sub-classified the original articles into three categories; descriptive study, analytic study and experimental study. We analyzed the case report according to various types of treatment. Results : 1. The number of searched journals is 29 papers; 17 original ordicles, 4 review articles, 8 case reports. 2. Classification of 17 original articles into three categories; 10 experimental studies, 7 descriptive studies, 0 analytic study. 3. Method of Evaluation; Korean Acne Grading System(KAGS) is used frequently in descriptive studies and experimental studies. 4. Treatment in Case reports; 7 Case reports used External medical treatments. Conclusions : It is needed to develop the methods of grading system in acne related to Oriental medicine to obtain objectivity of studies. The number of analytic study, clinical trial and experimental study is need to increase.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to research on the characteristics of outpatients and distributions of diseases in ophthalmology, otolaryngology of Korean medicine in 2012-2016 and compare the result with previous studies. Methods : This study is based on the analysis of medical records of total 2,319 outpatients in ophthalmology, otolaryngology of Korean medicine at Kyung Hee Korean medicine hospital from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2016. We searched on the demographic characteristics of outpatients and the distributions of diseases in order of frequency by age and sex. Then, we compared these results to previous results of papers at same hospital in 2000 and 2007. Results : The common diseases in 2012-2016 were dry eye syndrome in ophthalmology(32.14%), tinnitus and hearing loss in otology(72.69%), rhinitis in rhinology(82.20%) and laryngopharyngitis in laryngology(67.77%). The most increasing diseases in the distribution between 2004-2006 and 2012-2016 were retinopathy in ophthalmology(+366.77%), etc including the eustachian tube disorder in otology(+151.55%), olfactory disorder in rhinology(+167.50%) and laryngopharyngitis in laryngology(+126.20%). Conclusions : If we accumulate these kinds of epidemiologic studies on ophthalmology, otolaryngology of Korean medicine, it will be great help to make Korean medical preparations for the increasing diseases on these fields.

All the paper were classified into three categories; original article, review article and case report. We also analyzed the articles according to the sort of diseases. We sub-classified the original articles into three categories descriptive study, analytic study and experimental study. We analyzed the case report according to various types of treatment. Result : 1. The number of searched journals is 72 papers; 21 review articles, 18 original articles, 33 case reports 2. Classification of 18 original articles into three categories; 12 descriptive studies, 0 analytic study, 6 experimental studies. 3. Distribution of diseases in ophthalmology; the percentage of 'strabismus' ranked the highest(25%) in case report. 4. Method of Evaluation in retina disease ; the percentage of fundus photography ranked the highest(50%) Conclusions : It is needed to develop the methods of study in part of eye disease. The studies using modern medical equipment should be increased in ophthalmology of Korean Medicine. It will be helpful to obtain objectivity and increase quality of studies.

Objectives : This study was carried out to investigate the effect of Hwanggigyejiomul-tang on eczema with oozing. Methods : We treated 23 eczema patients with oozing. We used the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), and recorded the condition of patients as severe, moderate, mild, none. Results : After the treatments, all patients VAS of oozing was remarkably decreased. Conclusions : This study suggests that Hwanggigyejiomul-tang is effective on eczema with oozing.

We used the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), and recorded the condition of patients as +++, ++, +, -. Results : After the treatments, all patients VAS of nasal obstruction was remarkably decreased. Conclusions : This study suggests that Gyulpidaehwangbakcho-tang is effective on rhinitis with nasal obstruction.

Objectives : The aim of this study is to analyze research of Korean medicine for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. Methods : We searched domestic journals with the title 'seborrheic, dermatitis, 脂漏, 面遊風, 白屑風, 紐扣風'. We searched The Journal of Korean Medicine Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and Dermatology, NDSL, RISS, KISS, The National Assembly Library and OASIS. Results : We selected 15 papers; 11 clinical trials, 4 systematic reviews. In clinical trial all studies showed positive effect, but less example used in the studies. Conclusions : Positive effect of Korean Medicine on seborrheic dermatitis is expected. But we find several limits in many papers, so we conclude that well-designed researches are needed.

Objectives : This study was carried out to investigate the effect of Gyejiyiwolbiyil-tang on Urticaria. Methods : We treated 14 Urticaria patients. We evaluated severity of welts, pruritus, heat and redness by using the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Results : After the treatments, all patients objective score of urticara was remarkably decreased. Conclusions : This study suggests that Gyejiyiwolbiyil-tang is effective against acute and chronic urticaria.

Objective : The purpose of this report is to know the effect of Jibaekjihwang-tang(知栢地黃湯) on progressive pigmented purpuric dermatosis. Methods : We experienced one case of progressive pigmented purpuric dermatosis treated with Jibaekjihwang-tang(知栢地黃湯). We used visual analogue scale(VAS). Results : After the treatment the grade of VAS was decreased and purpuras, pruritus and dryness of skin were disappeared. Conslusion : Jibaekjihwang-tang(知栢地黃湯) can be used on the treatment of progressive pigmented purpuric dermatosis.
