Optimal Hierarchical Design Methodology for AESA Radar Operating Modes of a Fighter (전투기 AESA 레이더 운용모드의 최적 계층구조 설계 방법론)

  • This study addresses the optimal design methodology for switching between active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar operating modes to easily select the necessary information to reduce pilots' cognitive load and physical workload in situations where diverse and complex information is continuously provided. This study presents a procedure for defining a hidden Markov chain model (HMM) for modeling operating mode changes based on time series data on the operating modes of the AESA radar used by pilots while performing mission scenarios with inherent uncertainty. Furthermore, based on a transition probability matrix (TPM) of the HMM, this study presents a mathematical programming model for proposing the optimal structural design of AESA radar operating modes considering the manipulation method of a hands on throttle-and-stick (HOTAS). Fighter pilots select and activate the menu key for an AESA radar operation mode by manipulating the HOTAS's rotary and toggle controllers. Therefore, this study presents an optimization problem to propose the optimal structural design of the menu keys so that the pilot can easily change the menu keys to suit the operational environment.

  • For many industrial processes there are good static models used for process design and steady state operation. By using system identification techniques, it is possible to obtain black-box models with reasonable complexity that describe the system well in specific operating conditions [1]. But black-box models using inductive modeling(IM) is not suitable for model based control because they are only valid for specific operating conditions. Thus we need to use deductive modeling(DM) for a wide operating range. Furthermore, deductive modeling is several merits: First, the model is possible to be modularized. Second, we can increase and decrease the model complexity. Finally, we are able to use model for plant design. Power plant must be able to operate well at dramatic load change and consider safety and efficiency. This paper proposes a simplified nonlinear model of an industrial boiler, one of component parts of a power plant, by DM method and applies optimal control to the model.

  • Since the performance of the spring operating mechanism for a circuit breaker mainly depends on the dynamic behavior and mass of the coil spring, its dynamic analysis is required to evaluate the performance of the spring operating mechanism. In this study, a coil spring design program is developed for the spring operating mechanism. An experimental approach is used to find the variables satisfying the design constraints' requirements. The coil spring is formed by using a lumped mass spring model. This program offers reference data for the design of coil springs and for the spring operating mechanism.

  • Capstone design is a very important college course that enhances students' creativity and skills. However, in most universities, the operation of capstone design is operated by the experience and intuition of the advisor, and it is somewhat lacking in the generation of useful results such as patent rights and technology start-up from the capstone design result. In this study, we proposed a performance - based capstone design operation model through patent linkage so that the capstone design class can create creative and useful results. The proposed operating model includes support for research on prior art of patent information utilization, patent right of idea, and technology commercialization. The proposed operating model was directly applied to the capstone design class in the university, and it was confirmed that useful results such as expansion of the scope of the research achievement and technology start - up were created compared to the existing operation model.

  • Capstone design, is a heartfelt cooperation curriculum because the ultimate goal is to train people who already have the ability to complete the tasks of the job without retraining them in the field immediately after being hired. However, there is a need for the design study in the fashion industry where a variety of operating models could be tried; more specifically case studies than engineering. This study was designed to apply to the types of voluntary projects and industrial challenges linked to the different types of virtuous circle window systems over twice in two years. Result capitalization applied to different types of derived forms associated with start-up technology transfer form. In addition, start-up will be done in conjunction with student-centered forms of the participation of Cooperation Coordinator. This was weak in the form of technology transfer interventions which were made as a result of the overall involvement of the industry.   • It has been well known that traffic accidents occur under combined functional contributions of drivers, vehicles and road facilities, and that evaluation of safety levels for a specific road section or point is generally much complicated. Additionally, most of traffic accidents occur randomly implicating it is necessary to be evaluated in terms of probability theory. Thus, the evaluation model which reflects various characteristics and probabilistic distributions of traffic accidents has been necessary. The present paper provides a reliability based model with variables of probabilistic operating speeds and design speeds together which have been individually explaining associated characteristics in traffic accidents. Consequently, the model made it possible for speed management and road improvement projects to be evaluated in a common index. Application studies were performed in three cases. Through the studies, couples of facts were identified that the model successfully considered the probabilistic operating speeds and design speeds together and that then, the model evaluated road safety alternatives relatively which are complicatedly characterized and differently located.

  • In this study, an improvement design method for reducing the vibration of fenders equipped in a tractor is proposed through the establishment of a finite element model and the topology optimization. As the original shapes of the parts cannot be altered, an improved design model was derived in which a stiffener was attached to the border of parts. Thus, the first resonance frequency was increased by approximately 16 Hz, which was confirmed to be the frequency interval for avoiding the idle and operating frequency of the engine. Finally the improved design model was applied to confirm the effect of vibration reduction. Therefore, it can be concluded that the improved design model of the tractor fender is effective at reducing vibrations of the tractor fender.

  • The problem considered in this paper is to select the vital factor effect to the product quality through the experimental design and analysis of response surface, so as to control the quality improvement of industrial product. In this time, even through the mathematical model is unknown it could be applicable to control the quality of industrial products and to determine optimum operating condition for many technical fields, particulary, for industrial manufacturing process. When a set of data is available from an experimental design, it is often of interest 1:0 fit polynominal repression model in independent variables (eg, time, temperature, pressure, etc) the optimize the response variable (eg. yield, strength etc). This paper proposes a method known to obtain the optimum operating condition, and how to find the condition by using table of orthogonal array experiments, and optimization methodology of statistical model. A criterion can be applied determining to optimum operating conditions in manufacturing industry and improving the fit of response surface which may be used for prediction of responses and quality control of industrial products.

  • This paper presents a pitch controller which can hold output power constant at the rated value. Although wind turbine contains complicated nonlinearities, its behaviour within a certain operating range of a point can be approximated by that of a linear model. By doing so, we can apply rather simple and systematic linear control techniques such as PID and LQR(Linear Quadratic Regulator) to design a linear pitch controller. Because these linear controllers are valid only in a sufficiently small range around an operating point, linearized wind turbine model under the condition of varying wind speed needs a linear pitch controller can achieve the aims of tracking the rated rotor rotational speed. We propose an improved linear pitch controller taking each merit of LQR and PI controller under the condition of varying operating points in this paper.

  • An Application of Experimental Designs to Improve the quality of Industrial product : optimization Methodology of statistical model. The primary object of this paper is to aid scientists and Engineers, in applying response surface procedures to obtain operating conditions for many technical fields, particularly for industrial manufacturing processes. The problem considered in this paper is to select technically and scientifically some important factors affecting the quality of products through the experimental design and analysis of response surface. Even though the mathematical model is unknown these statistical analysis can be applicable to control the quality of industrial products and to determine optimum operating conditions for many technical fields, particularly, for industrial manufacturing processes. This paper proposes a method to obtain the optimum operating condition, and how to find the condition by using table of orthogonal array experiments, and optimization methodology of statistical model.
