Biotechnological Approaches in Sericultural Science and Technology of Uzbekistan

  • Biotechnological researches in Central Asian Research Institute of Sericulture were developed since 1981 when laboratory of artificial diets for mulberry silk­worm was created. The researches were directed not only to creation of accessible artificial diets (AD) for off-season mass rearing of economical beneficial insect and for industrialization of sericulture but also to obtaining of easy reproducible source of animal proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, enzymes, enzymes inhibitors and other metabolites - bioresource for manufacture of oriental medicine preparations. Space experiments with silkworms became possible with use of AD. These experiments used mulberry silkworm as high effective board test organism with outstanding developmental, reproductive and transgenic properties having impor­tant significance in future of cosmonautics. Introduction to practice of bioprotective and ecologically pure method of drying and sterilizing of green cocoons and by-products of silk manufacture allows to increase efficiency of cocoons reeling technology as well as to preserve nativity of biological active substances in mulberry silkworm pupae that is unachievable by traditional methods of raw material processing. New spheres of application of two important silk proteins - fibroin and sericin in medicine, cosmetics, for bio- and nanotechnology are opening with use of biotechnological approaches. At present the achievements and experience of R & D in these fields are used in creation of modern pests biocontrol agents.   • Most of the Medical Junior Colleges faced new environmental changes: School years of some Health-related departments were extended from two-year program to three-year ones; The total high school graduates willing to apply to the colleges will fall short of the legal number limits of this country; Govorment's educational opening policies enables competitive foreign schools to land in our country more easily. In order to survive under these turbulant circumstances, any junior college has to cultivate it's own competitiveness establishing strategies and utilizing resources very efficiently. Some of the major points extracted from three-year junior college professors' opinions against the environmental changes are as follows, 1. Environmental changes should be fully appreciated. And junior colleges have to make haste to establish strategies placing priorities on specific fields which are their own strengths compared to others. 2. The crieria of provisions of miminstry of Education on the facilities and equipments should be enhanced. 3. The practical way to use available resources effectively is to make the best of human resources. 4. It is time to consider consolidating akin departments to one. 5. The school year of the health-related departments should be extended to four years to meet the contemporary needs in the medical fields.

A Numerical Analysis for Fuel Consumption by Improvement of Intake/Exhaust Valve Timing in a Common Rail Diesel Engine for a Generator (커먼레일 디젤엔진의 흡배기밸브 타이밍 개선을 통한 연비절감에 대한 수치해석적 연구)

  • The common rail diesel engine used in this study uses mechanically driven camshaft for the operation of intake and exhaust valves, and the timing of valve opening and closing is fixed according to the operating conditions of the vehicle. However, the electric generator engine operates at a constant speed and partial load. Therefore, in order to optimize the design of common rail diesel engine for power generation, the characteristics of diesel combustion and emissions according to the change of valve timing were examined and calculated in terms of fuel economy. The valve timing of the diesel engine influenced the combustion characteristics by changing the intake and exhaust flow and it was considered that the fuel efficiency of the generator could be improved.

An Experimental Study on the Performance of the Vertical-Axis Wind Turbine (수직축 풍력터빈 성능개선에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This paper presents the design procedure of a vertical wind turbine named jet-wheel-turbo turbine and the numerical and experimental verifications. The design parameters such as the rotor inlet angle, the diameter-to-hub ratio, the inlet guide outlet angle and the solidity were optimized to maximize the energy transfer, and to further increase the turbine efficiency by applying the side guide vane and the side opening to the rotor. The maximum power coefficient of 0.59, which is much higher than the ever-designed three-bladed horizontal turbines, was experimentally obtained when the optimal inlet- and side-guide vanes were installed and both sides of the rotor were 80% opened. The maximum power coefficients occur at the tip speed ratio ranging between 0.6 and 0.7. This vertical-axis turbine model can be applied to the large-scale power generation system with the speed and torque control algorithm for the specified wind characteristics.

  • In general, the purpose of packaging fasteners is a series of management activities to maintain the condition at the time of production until they get delivered to the end user. An automatic packing system for fasteners is consisted of bucket conveyor, slide feeder, vision inspection system, box-magazine conveyor system and automatic packing machine. Also, the automatic packing machine is consisted of six modules including charging device, clamping/opening device, sealing/cutting device, feeding/air-shower device, supplying/adjusting device and device frame, etc. In this paper, we proposed an automatic packing mechanism of the one station concept for packing work of fastener objects where the continuous batch work is performed in a finite space. The proposed one-station packing mechanism has been optimized through mechanical, dynamical, structural and fluid analyses. And it had been manufactured as the prototype of automatic packing machine. The field test for validation of performance was performed directly at the production line of bolt and screw. In the field test, this packing machine showed an efficiency of about 4.5 times the manual operation. It also showed 30% reduction in the consumption of packing materials compared to the manual operation. This automatic packing machine for fastener objects will be commercialized soon.

Experimental Study of Cooling Energy Saving Verification Using Blinds and Phase Change Material(PCM) (창호 블라인드와 상변화물질 적용에 의한 냉방 에너지 사용량 절감효과에 대한 검토 연구)

  • This study looks into changing building energy use by application of phase change material (PCM). PCM does not need extra energy for operation and is used for reducing building energy use and, CO2 output by displaying semi-permanent effects after installation. It also is able to avoid the maximum electric power time-zone by inducing a time lag phenomenon of cooling and heating loads with high thermal capacity using latent heat. To verify the efficiency of blinds and PCM, tests about the PCM operation mechanism using air conditioning machinery and nocturnal panel cooling were done. In the test results of the case using PCM installation, a $45^{\circ}$ blind angle with machinery air conditioning and nocturnal panel cooling at the same time shows a 22 percent energy saving effect against general space. The test results of each case were compared and analyzed based on the blind and window opening settings. Finally, the energy reduction of existing buildings using PCM application was reviewed based on the final measurement results.

  • Automatic control systems(AVR, Governor, Synchronizer) installed $1970{\sim}1980$ in K-water were considered to be rehabilitated around 2000. Moreover, Korea Power Exchange market system was changed from PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) to a bidding system. Therefore, depending on the power quality, the power provider could achieve additional profits. It is the excitation system and governor that have the functions of enhancing power necessities. During the 20 to 30 years of generator operation, there were many major and minor problems. Examples are SCR burnout (Andong: Excitation system), hunting (Imha: governor), field circuit breaker failure (Chungju 1st: excitation system), the rise of leakage current (Chungju 2nd: excitation system), power supply burnout (Chungju 2nd: governor). These are the typical examples of malfunction which hindered the generator operation and, consequently, diminished the profit of power business. In order to satisfy the needs of the power market and prevent malfunctions mentioned above, the rehabilitation of AVRs and governors were executed. A new system was made to have the flexibility of ancillary service (GF, AGC, etc.), PSS function. With user friendly HMI software, it is more convenient for the operator to fulfill suitable maintenance. It was possible to connect SCADA system by opening protocol of AVR, governor for the efficiency of operation and maintenance.

  • A gas-liquid centrifugal separator is widely used in industry because of its simple geometry and little maintenance. Also, these separators have considerable advantages over filters, scrubbers or precipitators in term of compact design, low pressure drop and higher capacity. A gas-liquid centrifugal separator is a device that utilizes centrifugal force and low pressure to separate liquid from gas by density difference. Design parameters such as length of separation space, swirl vane exit angle, inlet to outlet pipe diameter ratio, models for separation efficiency and low pressure drop as a function of physical dimension are not available in literature. In present study, length of separation space (from vane to gas exit opening) has been studied using CFD. The 3-D Navier-Stokes equations are numerically solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. Based upon the obtained solutions, tangential velocities, centrifugal forces, vortices and total pressure losses are analyzed to find the best design parameters.

  • The meaning of this research is to make recognition for necessity of ergonomic fashion design research. And the purpose is to provide the guidelines for ergonomic fashion product development. For this, literature research and analysis of empirical illustration of product design indicating ergonomics characteristic are implemented. Among the body-conscious active sportswear, cycle wear, swim suit, and skin scuba wet suit were selected and analyzed. Then they were explained according to the ergonomics characteristics arranged previously. Lastly, the features of ergonomic fashion design were arranged by composition elements of the clothing such as pattern, sewing, material and detail. The characteristics of ergonomic design derived from literature and advanced researches are efficiency, usability, functionality and safety. Through research and analysis, the characteristics of ergonomic fashion design are as followings. In pattern, it is related to the 3D structure division pattern, the reduction pattern design, the closing & opening part design for easy detachment, the receipt and the changeable design. In sewing, it is related to the use of latest sewing techniques and the finish using silicon or rubber band. In material, it is related to the use of high performance fabrics and the proper arrangement of these. In detail, it is related to the convenient detail, the storage detail, the adjustable detail, and the body protection detail.

The Modernization of Stage Costume of Opera 『Faust』 -Focused on The Supporting Actors- (오페라 『Faust』의 현대적 무대의상 디자인 -남녀 조연을 중심으로-)

  • Opera costumes are a tangible medium to directly affect how opera singers performed. Therefore, stage costumes have been designed in various ways to reflect intentions of directors. This study examines modernization of opera costumes. For this study, the author worked as one of costume design staff for "Faust" which was played in Sung-Nam Art Center from November 24, 2005 to November 27, 2005 in commemoration of the opening of the center. The following outcomes of the supporting actors are drawn from this study. Martha wore a grey jacket and a long skirt with slash. Grey suit symbolized chastity but tight long skirt with slash means sexy. Valentin wore military and combat uniforms to express that he was a soldier. The military uniform represented the situation before the war and the combat uniform symbolized the situation after the war. Rather short trousers, a white tweed jacket, purple flower ornament, a light green vest, and a beret were used to express Wagner, who looked ridiculous and always tried to flirt. Overalls, a blue jumper, and a scarlet baseball cap were used to make Siebel look naive and homely. Modern opera costumes now help reduce the time and space between stage and audience, improve economic efficiency and meet the audience's needs for various style.
