  • When the Trans-Korea Railway (Gyeong-eui Line and Dong-hae Line) initiative is completed, Korea will become one of the major trading partners of Russia through the Trans-Siberian Railway (TSR). This will be an opportunity for Korea to take-off to a 'Traffic and Logistics Center in 21st Century. The opening of the Eurasia Continental Railway will provideKorea with the opportunity to develop into the logistics center of Asia-Pacific area and the benefit of reduced cost of unification by improving the correlation between South and North Korea through the cooperation in railway business. However, there exist the uncertainties for its demand and innovative reduction in transportation time and cost, due to the practical problems including economic efficiency and transportation technology. In this paper, the practical problems of TSR are discussed in the economic and social perspectives to develop the methodology for the Korea-Russia railway cooperation and for the improvement of the competitive power of TSR.

  • The structure of a variable liquid column oscillator(a VLCO) is analogous to that of the tuned liquid column damper used to suppress oscillatory motion in large structures like tall buildings and cargo ships. The VLCO is a system absorbing high kinetic energy of accelerated motions of multiple floating bodies in the effect of air springs occurred by installation of inner air chambers. Thus, VLCO can improve the efficiency of energy than wave energy converters of the activating object type made in Pelamis Company. In this research, the experiment was performed that a simple floating body was filled with internal fluid of same draft. The characteristics of motions were evaluated in each case of the opening or closing of the upper valves.

  • Hydraulic excavators have been popular devices in construction fields because of their multi-workings and economic efficiency. The mathematical models of excavators have many nonlinearities because of opening characteristics and dead zone of main control valve(MCV), oil temperature variation, etc. The objective of this paper is to develop a simulator for hydraulic excavator using AMESim. Components and their circuits are expressed graphically. Also, parameters and nonlinear characteristics are considered in a text style. From the simulation results, fixed spring stiffness of MCV can not obtain the satisfactory accuracy of spool displacement under whole P-Q diagrams. Closed loop type MCV containing a proportional gain, is proposed in this paper that can reduce displacement error. The ability of closed loop MCV is verified through comparing with normal type MCV using AMESim simulator. The excavator simulator can be used to forecast the attachment behaviors when components, mechanical attachments and hydraulic circuits change, or other control algorithms are applied. The simulator could be a kind of development platform for new excavators.

Study of Magnetic Filtration for Subway MVAC Dust (지하철 공조실 미세먼지에 대한 자성포집연구)

  • Dust particles, which inflow to the subway mechanical ventilation and air conditioning(MVAC) chamber, contain a fair amount of iron compounds, approximately 25.2w/w%. This work attempted to capture those iron containing dust using magnetic filters. Average magnetization value of the test MVAC dust was 0.012 emu on 5,000 Oe, which could correspond sufficiently with the magnetic interaction. External permanent magnets provided with magnetization of iron mesh screen showing high gradient magnetic field(HGM). It resulted in the capture efficiency with 84.0 ~ 99.7% and 81.2 ~ 99.8% for $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ respectively. Magnetic capture was found to be closely associated with the magnetic intensity, mesh opening size and flow velocity.

Effects of Propellant Phases on Atmospheric Spray Characteristics of a Pintle Injector for Throttleable Rocket Engines (가변 추력용 핀틀 분사기에서 추진제 상에 따른 상압분무 특성)

  • Atmospheric spray characteristics were experimentally compared between liquid-gas and liquid-liquid sprays of a pintle injector. In order to study spray characteristics, water and air were used as the simulants and the visualization technic was adopted. Spray images were acquired by using a backlight method by a high-resolution CMOS camera. As a result, when the pintle opening distance increased, liquid sheets became unstabled and fluttering droplets increased. In the liquid-gas case, the breakup performance increased as the pressure of gas injected from the annular orifice increased. In the liquid-liquid case, atomization efficiency decreased as the pressure of liquid injected from the annular orifice increased. Spray angles presented a similar trend between two cases. At the same momentum ratio, the spray angle of liquid-liquid case was lower than the angle of liquid-gas case.

  • The paper considers acoustic analysis of the shock absorbing muffler within a rotary compressor. The internal space of the compressor is modelled as a combination of cavities and pipes. A simple one-dimensional impedance approach is used fur the acoustic analysis in the low frequency range, with ignoring the effects of gas flow and temperature gradients that are closely related to power efficiency of the compressor. Using the similarity between the vibration isolator and the shock absorbing muffler, the source strength transmissibility is newly proposed as a performance measure of the muffler and its validity is supported by power analysis. Some Important muffler design rules obtained are; (1) a muffler cavity and its opening throat should be used as a pair, (2) a long thin throat is desirable for high frequency noise isolation, (3) a large muffler cavity should be used with care since it shortens the working frequency range of the muffler. The rules were applied to redesign a compressor muffler currently in use, and a significant improvement was achieved by simply attaching a throat to the outlet holes of the muffler.

  • This paper deals with design method of proportional-integral(PI) and feedforward controller for obtaining precise temperature and high energy efficiency of oil cooler system in machine tools. The compressor's speed and opening angle of an electronic expansion valve are controlled to keep reference value of temperature at oil outlet and superheat of an evaporator. Especially, the feedforward controller is added to suppress temperature fluctuation under abrupt disturbances. Through some experiments, the suggested method can control the target temperature within steady state error of ${\pm}0.l^{\circ}C$ and maximum overshoot $0.2^{\circ}C$ under abrupt disturbances.

  • KTX decelerator is a device to fulfil a role of transmission of turning force to reduction device of an axle by serrate device. Currently, KTX decelerator's TBO(Time Between Overhaul) has 3 years cycle. As for the dissembly maintenance of a device, its maintenance is conducted every 1.4M kms. In this study, since opening of KTX, we analyzed reliability, maintainability, availability of KTX decelerator by researching historical records of maintenance of the decelerator, and based on above data, investigated whether its TBO cycle and maintenance works properly or not And we considered maintenance policies of KTX decelerator to improve efficiency in maintenance in the future.

  • In this study numerical analysis was performed to evaluate the safety of Built-in Timbering Roof Type Tunnelling Method(BTR) which is one of non-opening tunnel construction methods. For the upgrading of analytical precision was applied the discretion method which can separately model reinforcing elements of BTR and the homogeneity analysis considering the area ratio of elements was performed to compare both results. Comparing the displacement in this study with that of the homogeneity method, the efficiency of the discretion method was verified.

  • Reconfigurable computing is a new computing paradigm which has more potential in terms of performance and flexibility. Reconfigurable computing systems are opening a new era in digital signal processing such as multimedia, communication and consumer electronics because they can filter data rapidly and excel at pattern recognition, image process- ing and encryption. Although many reconfigurable computing systems use a conventional programmable device, they carry several serious problems to be solved. This paper proposes a logic block architecture of programmable device suit-able for the reconfigurable computing. Compared to conventional logic blocks, our logic block can improve implementation density, efficiency and speed.
