  • The main transportation mode of long distance inter-city passenger trips is high-speed rail and the modal share of transportation has been changed profoundly since the KTX service has been started in the Kyung-Bu railroad transportation corridor in the day of 1 April, 2004. After an opening of KTX service in the second stage Kyung-Bu and Ho-Nam railroad transportation corridors, a capacity of incumbent railroads will be increased and operational environments of freight train will be improved. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of KTX service operation on the national logistics thoroughly. This paper establishes a deceptive scheme in the national railroad logistic transportation and a route operational strategy between the main origins and destinations efficiently considering the changes of the current freight transportation system in the future. We expect to achieve efficiency of logistic transportation in this paper through alternative routes for example Ho-Nam, Chang-Hang, Seo-Hae line.

  • This study used a non-parametric linear program, Data Envelopment Analysis to compare the efficiency of South Korean and Chinese banks from 2000 to 2008, which is said to be the reformation period of their financial structure. The sample banks were 10 commercial banks and 6 regional banks in Korea, and 4 state-owned commercial banks and 11 stock commercial banks in China. The main objective of our research is to compare their efficiency, as well as the changes in efficiency periodically according to the types of the banks. According to the periodical analysis, both of the countries showed steady increase in efficiency. This shows that finance restructure and merging were positive factors for bank's efficiency during the revolution of finance structure. The study showed that between Korea and China, the bank of Korea has higher efficiency than that of China. Although the reconstruction period happened around the same time, due to the earlier acceleration period to opening Korea's financial market, made the difference in efficiency.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of clothing materials and the opening of the garment on the microclimate of the skin simulating system during the coupled heat and moisture transfer. To determine the effect of size and location of openness of the garment, openness was simulated by removing parts of the spacer ring of the modelling system. To evaluate the changes of humidity and temperature of air layer in the system, buffering indice, Kd and Pr, and efficiency of openness were determined. When the openness was imparted to the system, the transport rate of heat and moisture increased abruptly; at the total openness of 26.4%, which simulated the openness of neck, armhole and waist, Kd increased at least more than three times of the closed system. As the openness increased, the effect of clothing materials decreased gradually to lose its effect at the 60% openness and approached the value of nude. Temperature regulating index showed, however, higher value than nude which was apparently due to the still air layer.

  • Korea is one of the most advanced countries in terms of nation-wide readiness for conducting complex trade processes in an electronic way. Since various trade processes are well-known for their complexity and cost as well as time consuming characteristics due to required collaborations with involving parties, automation and efficiency are always the main concern of trade-related practitioners. Using information technology can be a possible solution to this problem and Korea has developed the national e-trade infrastructure called "u-Trade Hub." In this paper, we propose the framework to enhance the national integrated e-trade system called "u-Trade Hub," which is ready to be released for commercial use in near future. We propose the framework to upgrade u-Trade Hub in four directions: (1) opening, (2) strengthening community feature, (3) modularization, (4) seeking profitability. In this paper, we study and compare national e-trade environment of other countries such as Singapore and Japan. Then, we analyze and design the enhanced e-trade infrastructure based on Web 2.0.

  • This paper describes an approach to design a interior permanent magnet motor(IPM motor) for the reduction of cogging torque. The magnitude of the torque ripple and cogging torque in a interior permanent magnet motor(IPM motor) are generally dependent on several major factors: the shape of stator tooth tip, slot opening width, air gap length, the shape of barrier preventing flux leakage of magnets, magnet configuration and magnetization distribution or magnet poles. In this paper, the IPM BLDC motor is designed considering a saturated leakag flux between the barriers on the rotor for increasing the efficiency and decreasing the magnitude of the cogging torque. Analytical model is developed for the IPM BLDC motor with a concentrated winding stator. The results verifies that the proposed design approach is very efficient and effective in reducing the cogging torque and the torque ripple of the IPM BLDC motor to be used in an electric vehicle.

  • Reading room in the university is one of necessary facilities that university student must use. It is, therefore, very important to make reading room comfortable acoustically not only to minimize the annoyance to the users but also to provide efficiency in studying. Present study aims to investigate the current situation of reading room in terms of acoustics and moreover to find out the relationship between the indoor noise and users' satisfaction through questionnaire survey. As a result, the indoor noise level is quite higher than the 1st grade, 35 dB(A), that the Ministry of land, transport and maritime affairs suggests as certificate regulation for environment friendly building and there were lots of noise sources that can provoke users in studying or concentrating. Questionnaire survey illustrates that the sound when opening and closing door, and airborne sound from outdoor transmitted through window are most annoying, which affected users' dissatisfaction.

  • Railway is an important transportation tool for nation's industrial development and public daily life. These days the concern about railway has remarkably been rising due to the April 2004 opening of KTX, Korea High Speed Rail, together with Trans-Continental Railways linking North Korea, China, Russia, through European countries. In the meantime, the issues of train safety and efficiency, arising from the different on-board signaling systems installed on different kinds of trains, have been raised incessantly. In this paper CTCS(Continental Train Control System) is suggested, which can accommodate such various signaling functions as ATP, ATC, ATS, etc. into one single type of on-board signaling system and operate without changing ground signaling systems on the junctions of the Trans-Continental Railways. The development of this CTCS would cause speed-up of exiting lines and possession of railway core solutions for establishing Northeast Asia logistics center bases, which could be an important cornerstone for domestic railway improvements and Korea's role of Northeast Hub.

  • Hydraulic excavators have been popular devices in construction field because of its multi-workings and economic efficiency. The mathematical models of excavators have many nonlinearities because of nonlinear opening characteristics and dead zone of main control valve, oil temperature variation, etc. The objective of this paper is to develop a simulator for hydraulic excavator using AMESim. Components and whole circuit are expressed graphically. Parameters and nonlinear characteristics are inputted in text style. The simulator can be used to forecast excavator behavior when new components, new mechanical attachments, hydraulic circuit changes, and new control algorithm are applied. The simulator could be a kind of development platform for various new excavators.

  • The transition metal-induced in situ generation of carbene complexes from alkynes having a carbonyl or imino group as a nucleophilic functionality has been investigated. These reactive carbenoid species are generated with high atom efficiency through a 6-endo-dig cyclization mode based on the electrocyclization of vinylidene complexes or a 5-exo-dig cyclization mode in π-alkyne complexes, and have been found to serve as versatile intermediates in catalytic carbene transfer reactions. Highlighted and reviewed in this account are the generation and preparation of pyranylidene, furylcarbene, pyrrolylcarbene, and vinylcarbene complexes and their application to [3,3]sigmatropic rearrangement of acylcyclopropylvinylidenes, catalytic cyclopropanation reactions, [2,3]sigmatropic rearrangement or condensation reactions via ylides, ring-opening and substitution reactions with heteroaromatic compounds, and catalytic isomerization of oligoynes.
