The shear wall with openings built with reinforced concrete(RC) have been elaborately studied by many researchers, whereas the steel plate concrete(SC) wall structure has not been investigated as much. Recent SC wall structures developed in Korea have been partly applied to nuclear power plant structures, although its design specification or guideline for the SC wall structure with openings has not been completed yet. This study based on the account for the area lost to openings evaluates the effects of opening on the structural capacity of the SC structure within nuclear power plant. The results obtained from the study on the area lost to openings have been compared with experimental and numerical studies.

Bus, Which is together with subway the main part of public transportation modes in the city, is reviewed for the development of an optimal feeder-bus service area. Based on the IDRISI of GIS package, and taking into account of the convenience of downtown-oriented public transportation users at peak time, a model for the development of feeder-bus service area and a solution and introduced. Major result in this study is as follows: Development is given to a model that is designed to overcome the shortage of the existing models, which has limits in simulating the real situation; Variables were used in combination so that bus and subway route, station spacing, and operating frequency can be determined simultaneously, which enables to elucidate the mutual relationship and the structure in public transportation system. A model for feeder-bus area development is also given applied to determination and opening of subway and urban express bus route and new transportation systems. The model developed in this paper is useful in the case of extension and opening of subway and urban express bus route and new transportation Systems.
A simplified method that models the deflagration process occurring in closed or vented vessels is described. When combustion occurs within the spherical or cylindrical vessels, the flame moves spherically or segmentally to the vessel periphery. The volume and area of each element along the propagating flame front are calculated by using simple geometrical rules. For instabilities and turbulence resulting in enhanced burning rates, a simple analysis results in reasonable agreement with the experimental pressure transients when two burning rates (a laminar burning rate prior to the onset of instability and an enhanced burning rate) were used. Pressure reduction caused by a vent opening at predetermined pressure was modeled. Parameters examined in the modeling include ignition location, mixture concentration, vented area, and vent opening pressure. It was found that venting was effective in reducing the peak pressure experienced in vessels. The model can be expected to estimate reasonable peak pressures and flame front distances by modeling the enhanced burning rates, that is, turbulent enhancement factor.
The purpose of the present work is to develop a compressed air discharging system to eject a projectile from the underwater. For the flow analysis of compressed air tank, projectile ejection tube, and pipe system, the air is assumed as an ideal gas, undergoing 1-dimensional axisymmetric, compressible flow, the Fanno flow analysis was applied. The commercial Fluent code was used to solve 3-D Navier-Stokes equation of the internal flow within the valve. The dynamics of the projectile within the ejection tube was assumed 1-degree of freedom. The calculations were performed to four cases of valve opening area ratio, i.e., 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% opening area, at both depths of 10m and 50m. The results were shown as the figures of time variation of pressure of the compressed air tank and projectile ejection tube. The velocity and distance of the projectile were also predicted.

The purpose of this study is to research a specific material characteristics of top down concrete at column joint and to reduce column joint opening. Based on the established top down study, the experiment to apply an real construction case is performed. When the concrete placed into joint of top down column, raised air bubble is left as opening. This study is examined the incomplete packing reason in the top down column and found to air deflation method. The result of study is below (1) As the method to minimize column opening caused from confined air, it is required that an air exhaust port installation in joint column. (2) From air exhaust port installation, most of air bubble in column part is exhausted. As the concrete placing height is going up, air bubble size is going smaller.
A numerical study on gaseous explosion was carried out to predict the transient pressure behavior with the partial rupture in confined vessels. Equations, assumptions and solutions for central ignition of premixed gases in closed spherical vessels are proposed with various equivalence ratios of gas fuel, as $CH_4$ and $C_3H_8$, vent areas and vent opening pressures. Given vent opening pressure in a vessel, the magnitude of second peak pressure results from the vent areas and burning velocity, varied by equivalence ratio of gas fuel. In a living room of an apartment, the higher second peak pressure than the vent pressure is not appeared due to its large window areas. As vent opening pressure is higher, the larger damage by gaseous explosion is expected and the larger vent area is necessary for relieving the damage. In the same concentration, the gaseous explosion by propane rather than methane shows the larger damage due to its higher adiabatic flame temperature and equivalence ratio.
Objectives : To understand the current status of the opening, closing and relocation of primary medical institutes in Korea and identify the underlying decision factors. Methods : Sources of analyzed data included the medical institutional master file at the National Health Insurance Corporation(1998, 2000) and Regional Statistic Annual Bulletins. To investigate changes including the opening, closing and relocation, a total of primary medicalinstitutions(16,757 in 1998, 19,267 in 2000) were analysed. Results : Between 1998 and 2000, there was a 15.0%(2,510) increase in the number of primary medical institutions and the rate of increase in the rural area was higher than the urban area, and higher for specialty clinics than primary practice. However, these findings did not suggestany improvement in the maldistribution of primary medical institutions. During the time period studied, newly opened and closed primary medical institutions numbered 4,085 and 1,573, respectively. Additionally, institutions thatrelocated numbered 2,729, or 16.3% of all primary medical institutions in operation in 1998. These openings and closings were more frequent among young doctors. As a result of our analysis on the underlying regional factors forrelocation, the factors that were statistically significant were local per capita tax burden and the number of schools per ten thousand persons. !n, the case of institutional factors, movements were significantly associated with gender and the location of primary medical institutions. Conclusions : In order to establish effective long-term intervention for primary medical institutions, further study and monitoring of primary medical institutions and the identification of factors influencing opening location and relocation is necessary.
The bed change analysis near the opening gate of a dam or weir to release deposited sediments have been conducted mostly using the numerical models. However, the use of unverified input parameters in the numerical model is able to produce the different results with natural and real conditions. Also, the bed changes near the opening gate of a dam or weir calculated with a numerical model could be varied depending on the geometry extent included the downstream area with supercritical flow in the model. In addition, the different time steps could provide different results in the bed change calculation, even though other conditions such as input parameters, geometries, and total simulation time were same. Therefore, in this study, hydraulic experiments were performed to validate the eddy viscosity coefficient which is the one of important input parameters in the RMA2 model and relevant to variation of simulation results. The bed changes were calculated using the SED2D model based on flow results calculated in the RMA2 model with the verified and selected eddy viscosity coefficient and also compared with experimental results. The bed changes near the opening gate were underestimated in the numerical model comparing with experimental results except only the numerical case without the modeling section of sediment release pipe and downstream area where the supercritical flow was produced. For the simulation of minimum time steps, different shapes of scour hole were produced in numerical and physical modeling.

Openings in steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) are usually used for decorative designs, crossing locations of multiple utilities and/or structural objectives. However, earlier studies showed that generating an opening in an SPSW has a negative effect on the cyclic performance of the SPSW. Therefore, this study proposes tripling or doubling the steel-sheet-plate (SSP) layer and stiffening the opening of the SPSW to provide a solution to undesirable opening effects, improve the SPSW performance and provide the infill option of potential strengthening measures after the construction stage. The study aims to investigate the impact of SSP doubling with a stiffened opening on the cyclic behaviour, expand the essential data required by structural designers and quantify the SPSW performance factors. Validated numerical models were adopted to identify the influence of the chosen parameters on the cyclic capacity, energy dissipation, ductility, seismic performance factors (SPF) and stiffness of the suggested method. A finite Element (FE) analysis was performed via Abaqus/CAE software on half-scale single-story models of SPSWs exposed to cyclic loading. The key parameters included the number of SSP layers, the opening size ratios corresponding to the net width of the SSP, and the opening shape. The findings showed that the proposed assembly method found a negligible influence in the shear capacity with opening sizes of 10, 15, 20%. However, a deterioration in the wall strength was observed for openings with sizes of 25% and 30%. The circular opening is preferable compared with the square opening. Moreover, for all the models, the average value of the obtained ductility did not show substantial changes and the ultimate shear resistance was achieved after reaching a drift ratio of 4.36%. Additionally, the equivalent sectional area of the SSP in the twin and triple configuration of the SPSWs demonstrated approximately similar results. Compared with the single SSP layer, the proposed configuration of the twin SSP layer with a stiffened opening suggest to more sufficiency create SSP openings in the SPSW compared to that of other configurations. Finally, a tabular SPF quantification is exhibited for SPSWs with openings.
